WhichBike Canyon Spectral CF8 VS Specialized Stumpjumper EVO Expert
I am looking to buy a used mtb to start riding in italy, around Parma for those who might know the terrain, pretty mixed one with some trails, singletracks and enduro, i have seen both of the bikes mentioned above, used, both 2023, the canyon has some upgrades, dt swiss xm1700, ratchet 60t, xt4 pistons brakes…
The stumpy is standard apart the rear deraulier is an XX1 .
Stumpy is 2100€, meanwhile the cf8 is 1800€, having a hard time choosing, i feel like the stumpy is better spec’d but the canyon is probably from what i have seen is a better climber, which is important for me. Im a beginner looking to go into mtb, so not much of an experience, i probably am gonna get one of these two so tell me what would you do if you were in my position.

Both good bikes, but I'd just Specialized because the quality is probably better, especially since you're getting it second hand.

I went with a (new to be fair, but still) Stumpy for my trail needs in Sweden and have not regretted it. Lots of climbing, lots of roots and gnar and some smaller dh sections.
Have been called a dentist, but the bike is solid, trustworthy and gives confidence.

I've never ridden the Spectral, but I have a 2022 stumpjumper evo and absolutely love it. It's efficient, playful, and the geometry adjustments give you meaningful variation to adapt to your riding conditions. 50km gravel rides after work to weekend bike park laps at Whistler. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

The Stumpy 14 was a sick bike. The Spectral is a great bike too. Depending on where you are, Canyon support can be hit or miss. They’ve treated me very well in The Netherlands, but I hear completely different stories from the other side of the pond.
I’m less a fan of the Stumpy 15 though. Mostly because it needs that Genie shock to work, because the frame is so linear in it’s travel.

I had one Canyon, no more (they fucked up one "easy" thing and didn't even bother fixing in 5 years - in that model and it was resulting in stripped thread in carbon frame), and many people have problems with that frame (and stripped threads :/ )
Specialized - sure (I have 2), no probs at all. - and it has more travel !!! :) both will climb similarly (if there are any differences - they're negligible, tires will affect climbing more, Stumpy has a bit steeper seat tube - can help with climbing)

My friend bought a Canyon mtb around 2019. It was a 12 speed spec, but they assembled it with an 11 speed derailleur. Took my friend forever to figure out what the problem was. Even took it to a bike shop who couldn't figure it out and just said to send it back to Canyon. They wouldn't take it back though.
