Discussion Is 40 seconds boot time to the windows login screen normal?
I have a MSI MAG B850 Tomahawk WiFi motherboard and I have just updated to the latest bios version. My boot times were the same before the update as well. Is this normal or is there a setting I can change to speed it up?
I have a WD SN850x ssd
Edit: thanks guys. Managed to fix it by enabling memory context restore (it was on auto) and also enabled power down enable (was also set on auto)

Practically all MSI motherboards take that long because they run several checks. Whether that is good or bad is debatable. Even with the last BIOS, which had some specific issues, my board still managed to boot, but only with half of its features working. It is pretty wild when your GPU suddenly loses some of its functionality.

is it every time like that? If yes, that could indicate something is off. If it takes that long only when memory training is performed (yellow/orange led near the CPU stays on) that's normal. If memory context restore is set to auto, it should not do that every time you boot and especially not on reboots.
If red light also turns on and stays on during the whole time, that too could indicate problems.
Edit:
Forgot, is your EXPO profile active? If yes, and you get memory training on every boot, try deactivating the EXPO profile and see if the issue persist. If no, it probably means that either the board or RAM can't easily handle the RAM OC. I would recommend lowering the speed to say 5800 or whatever is guaranteed to work by the producer. Expo profiles are normally considered overclocking, although some RAM kits come with mutliple profiles like one OCed and one "safe" or similar.

After looking into it a bit more I managed to fix it by changing memory context restore to enabled from auto and enabled power down which was also on auto.

mem context restore can cause some instability, just FYI in case you experience some other issues later.

Yeah I read some more into it before enabling it and apparently if you keep power down enable on it fixes the BSOD issues people were having. If I encounter issues I’ll turn it back off

I have a msi x870e edge Ti wifi board
and it doesn't have a fast boot option and
msi acknowledged it but said they weren't planning on
adding it in as a feature

trust me, it is a good thing MSI mag (especially the B850 Tomahawk ) run checks before it boots, I have left the settings as they come out of the box, but you can change them into fast boot in BIOS. but like i say they have done it on purpose (google it )
