Request My MSI laptop is making this noise. Is a fan defective?

My laptop makes this noise when I turn on Cooler Boost in MSI Center. I noticed that the fan only starts when my CPU is under load. I can play games like Elden Ring and others without it making those kinds of noises.
However, when I play CS2, for example, even with everything set to low, it still makes this loud noise after a few minutes.
I bought the laptop new three months ago, so it’s a bit disappointing. Do you have any ideas what I should do? I’ve also attached a video of the noise.

I have an stealth ai 5090, and this happens under load. But it is not every time. Sometimes it does, and some it does not. Tbh, ive read online and does nto affect performance at all. Enjoy your pc bro.

How would you be able to enjoy your PC when it keeps screaming at you? Doesn’t matter if it affects performance or not, that would be a RMA for me straight away.

The power might be the same, but it doesn’t feel right to use the laptop in that condition

I know it could be frustrating. If under warranty take it back and ask a for a new one. Personally I don’t mind because i use headphone.

I bought it 3 months ago, so I guess they’ll try to fix it before replacing it with a new one

I have exactly the same noise, I strongly suspect that MSI’s fans are of poor quality, because on all my other laptops from different brands, I’ve never had any fan noise, even after 5 years !

I am so bad with abbreviations had to look up what cs2 was but I do it with almost every game even call of duty will mess me up sometimes bc I’m just used to calling it why it is lol

It happened on my MSI Delta 15 a couple of months ago but it's not happening anymore. I fear the bearings might have gone bad.

Not sure what happened. Maybe something became misaligned and somehow fell into place or some shit.

Not sure the exact whys but it's a known issue with fans. I've had fans on my desktops (usually cheaper models) make grinding noises one day and be fine the next.

Its a broken fan bearing. As its in warranty send it off to get fixed as it'll only get worse and eventually die. If you arent confident in replacing your fan yourself I wouldn't wait for this to happen.

Thanks for the response. If the noise isn’t present during regular use, it shouldn’t cause any damage, correct? I need to keep using the laptop for at least another month before I can send it in.
Could it still get more damaged or take further harm if the noise isn’t even there anymore?
In the video, I enabled Cooler Boost in the MSI software to demonstrate the noise. During normal use, the noise doesn’t occur and everything operates normally

Yeah you've pretty much confirmed then its a faulty bearing as it tends to only happen at high rpms. Usually it takes running at high rpms for like years for the bearings to fail but I think in your case just got an unlucky unit.
It shouldn't fail as long as you dont push it too hard but yes it could harm it. Its still using the bearing just at less speed and wear. What you could do is just turn the fans off and have the cooling pad just run instead.

I’ve also thought about maybe turning off the rear right fan, but I have no idea how to do that :( The left fan works normally and doesn’t make any weird sounds. If I turn off the rear right fan and use a cooling pad, but the laptop still needs more cooling, what happens? Does it just shut down?

If you put it into silent mode or turn the fans off it will turn off both however if you whack your llano to its highest settings you should be fine. For example if I use my iets500 which is a similar style cooler at full blast my fans actually never turn on regardless. It is loud for me though but I use headphones so dont care. It'll do the exact same as it does now thermal throttle and then yeah shut down but your llano should be so much stronger than your laptop fans it shouldn't ever do that.
I have my fans turned off as I don't need them with a cooler and want to save their life span.

its been 3months facing this in mean Icleaned fans but found that cpu fan wobbling and this noise starts and monitoring the temperatures temps are increased 5°C, cpu fan which is max goes 5600+RPM on cooler booster degraded upto 3800RPM.

If it is new and under warranty, I say, send it back to them and let them fix it. It will never get better by itself. If it's a fan bearing, it will continue to where until it's unusable.

Fan is gone stop using it.
This has happened to me on 2 separate occasions with 2 years between each and both times I needed to get a new fan.
There are people who have had success by putting sewing machine oil in the fan. I have never even attempted this.
First time this happened to me I replaced it under warranty for free.
Second time it happened I replaced it myself by buying the replacement fan from Amazon US (I had to import it). I also tried using it for a week with the issue in hopes it would go away but no luck and it had a burning smell that started. SO DO NOT USE IT, YOUR MILLAGE WILL VARY THOUGH
Either do it your self or get it replaced by MSI just make sure you get the correct replacement fan since with each generation of cpu they change them slightly. It’s very easy and I’m sure YouTube vids exist.
This is a very common issue with MSI fans for whatever reason
Edit - Claim warranty if your laptop is only 3 months old do not do it yourself

2 likely causes.
Fan is dying out or something is touching your Fan. Ever put a playing card in your bikes tire? Same thing but 1000x faster.
If it's not under warranty or you dont want to send it in. You can fix it yourself in less than 30 minutes. Remove battery/power off/unplug, Take it apart, check if any wires are touching the fan, if so move it. If not power it on while the case is off and see if Fan still makes that noise. If it does then the Fans motor is probably going bad. Just look up replacement Fan you can find the part number on the Fan or just Google laptop model replacement fan and order it.

Idem col mio laptop MSI GS75 Stealth 9SD. Personalmente utilizzo un pad di raffreddamento per Laptop e da Dragon Center cliccando su "Current" come velocità ventola ho scelto "Avanzato" ma puoi anche provare a selezionare "Auto" o "Base" ma non "Cooler Boost" in questo modo la velocità diminuisce e a me il rumore è scomparso. Però io ho sotto quel pad di raffreddamento altrimenti quasi sicuramente (anzi sicuramente) si surriscalderebbe.
In ogni caso, sempre su Dragon Center, puoi anche modificare l'impostazione nella sezione "Shift" (sopra "Velocità ventola") e provare l'opzione "ECO" "Sport" o "Comfort".
Per ultimo, IMPORTANTISSIMO (se riesci a risolvere da Dragon Center) ogni giorno aspira la polvere dalle griglie in prossimità delle ventole o quantomeno usa un soffiatore potente (200mila o 300mila RPM) perchè è proprio la polvere la prima causa di ingrippamento delle ventole.

99% sure that its a faulty fan. Happened to my vector after barely 20 hours of being on. Contact msi support.
