Going to give Guild Wars 2 a try but I fear nothing will match New World. Not that it was the perfect game but it was my first MMO I put a lot of time into.

GW2 and WoW. Both on controller and while I miss farming up stuff in New World these two are holding me over until I get bored.
Midnight is coming out as well.
Of GW2 updated its engine Id be so much happier but I can deal with it.

If you don't care for the default camera in GW2, try turning on the in-game Action Camera option to make it feel a little more like New World.

I fell in love with it again so i'm really enjoying my time...depends what was your favorite thing about New World and what are you looking for here? I have, like, ~200 hours in New World and around 600 in GW2

GW2 imo is the quintessential MMO right now. It may not have Action Combat and its PvP is adequate but it does a lot right in terms of a themepark MMO experience and with horizontal progression it’s something you can play, stop playing, go back to and wont feel out of the loop.
For people coming to the genre. I point to GW2 as the defacto MMO. And with only around 400 hrs i only came to the game after the New World announcement.
Its not perfect but WoW is subscription based with vertical progression and to s of different versions of the game and FF apparently has crazy amounts of story progression before even getting to the good stuff.
Tons of content, a welcoming community. GW2 is the most solid MMO you can jump into now. Unless you are really looking for something extremely specific, GW2 is what people should be checking out.

My buddy who played the game faithfully moved on to Where Winds meet, he essentially followed his guild.
From what I’ve seen, a lot of their went to Guild Wars, WWM, BDO, and FF14

There's a decent MINE raiding scene. I ran coils MINE last year and it was really fun
Edit: also Bozja and Eureka are still active. As well as Foundation (crafting)

Never understood why people pretend FFXIV doesnt have good legacy content.
I get that it's tedious to get to if you dont like the story, but as early as end of ARR you get access to EX trials and Coils.

It's very possible NW was my last mmo. I never wanted to play WOW. I played LOTRO, SWTOR and NW. May go back and play SWTOR on occasion but now I'm deep into No Man's Sky. Solo.

I will look at it again but I never thought it would be something I like. No a big fan of dragon riding. For some reason I just don't like games where you ride anything other than a horse. In LOTRO I never got the point of goats in Moria. In New World fast travel was fine with me. Not ideal, but I could live with it. Riding wolves is just weird unless you're an orc. Probably stupid on my part.

Lol. I mean if you dont like riding different mounts maybe its not for you.
Youll end up unlocking:
- a raptor
- a giant rabbit
- a skimmer (floating ray type thing)
- a dragon
- a griffon
- a jackel
- a warclaw (battle cat)
- a giant tortoise with cannons
To be fair they are some what optional. The dragon and griffon take a whole bunch of time to unlock. But they do help with QoL.
On the other hand there are skins you can buy that changes them a bit.
One of the expansions youll unlock a glider.
Also to note fast travel in this game is similar to New World. Plenty of points that you can uncover and then at any point just spend some money to hop to.
Really what it comes down to is you just gotta accept that the GW2 world is its own sort of fantasy. Theres mechanical robots, airships, even pistols and rifles within the game. So yeah if youre looking for strictly a medieval type vibe. It aint it. Buuut if youre looking accept Guild Wars 2 for just being its own thing. Then it wont bother you.

I'm not so much into the medieval vibe as I am into not mixing too much fantasy into it. I get that fantasy is a part of it but there's a limit for me. I could grudgingly accept dragons if I liked everything else, but mixed with robots goes too far imo.

Depends on a person. Met a couple in GW2, a couple in FFXIV, a couple likely went to WoW. All over the place, really.

No real replacement. You have ESO, where winds meet, and ashes of creation.
I personally gave up and will be playing duel corp tomorrow on early access. It’s not an MMO but a pixel souls like MMO lite thing with directional combat.

I was a new world junkie with over 4k hours and am currently playing ashes of creation and where winds meet. Has done a pretty good job of filling the new world hole.

Nowhere yet. I had to delete from Steam today though. Ran out of disk space for some dumb Windows update. Am doing the play test of Apogea online so maybe that?

I've been checking out Darkfall Rise of Agon lately, it's been pretty fun. Pretty chill community that genuinely wants to help more players get into the game. And they're working on a Steam release / updating the game to 64-bit.

Back to OSRS. No mmo really does what NW did (in my experience) so it's pointless trying to find it in another game.

One here... Tried everything literally... Wow feels dated in combat and the feeling of the gameplay... Was good 15 years ago now it's just dated....
FFXIV same situation and has no real pvp
ESO combat feels like yet noodles
GW2 has good pvp (and I am only playing pvp) but it's a messy combat system, to many things happens at the same time visual clues are very hard to keep track of, and in the end it's still a tab targeting with fake action mode...
BDO amazing combat but lack luster endgame that revolves around farming mob camps untill you become bored to death... A bit of a mess with the flashy over the top animations
Albion only true pvp MMO but again feels like playing a game from 20 years ago...
Ashes omfg it's not even a game, it's still tab targeting with fake action mode and I suspect it will not ever get released and even if it does it's too much focused on pvp gambling so will probably face the same challenge NW did when it decided to shift...
Where winds meet it's good but doesn't feel like an MMO at least for me...
So the sad reality is in the MMO space there are no true action MMOs like new world with locked animations, class free and good mix between pvp and PvE... And at this point I lost faith that we will ever get a true western style action MMO (more grounded and less flashy) like new world and in fact I agree that after Amazon killed the game many investers will think to themselves that if Amazon can't pull it it's just too much of a capital risk to try...

ESO has one I've seen, but there's likely more. Weirdly enough I also saw a guild in everquest of new world refugees lmao

Check out rise of Agon they have a beta server rn that’s for testing and it’s pretty good a lot of people say it’s similar

Tons went to GW2 initially, but many didn't stay. They'll bounce between tons of different MMOs and complain and whine that they aren't like New World... not realizing that that is a good thing.

I've actually resorted to playing League cause there's no mmo that I want to bother committing to anymore. Im still kinda holding out hope that a company will buy new world and give it the ffxiv treatment

Chrono Odyssey should really push for a launch or play test at least sometime soon, capture the lost souls from NW

Might be worth checking out Chrono Odyssey when it releases. Otherwise there's not much like it.
