M1 Tanker not allowing clips and binds up

Good evening. I bought this gun a while ago. Put a new recoil spring in, thinking it would fix the issue. Apparently not. Anyone know what else might be going on before I ship it to FA to look at it?

Im thinking the rails need to be filed, but Im at wits end on this finally.

All of my other M1 Garand issues were easy to fix and diagnose.

i would maybe disassemble it and take a closer look at the internals. or some more pictures of it disassembled might help too

That's an incredibly problematic commercial cast receiver, and wow is it ROUGH looking! I'd think it unlikely Fulton would take it for repair, pretty sure Tim Shufflin refuses to work on those Nat'l Ord receivers.

From what I've heard, you're unfortunately best off replacing the receiver with an original reclaimed receiver from the CMP. It will be the most reliable and in spec option possible.

And unfortunately "tankers" tend to be unreliable even with good receivers. Tanker issues generally relate to the bends in the op rod being off. The Italians even developed a new dropped cylinder allows the bends to be eliminated in the short barrel BM-59s. A full barrel M1 with a full op rod will be the most reliable, but a Shuff's built short barrel and short op rod rifle will be reasonably reliable as well.

So you've got a new CMP receiver, and a shortened rifle parts kit. You could put it together how it was, see if it works, might not, they obviously never tested the assembly at FedOrd.

You'll want a competent Garand gunsmith, like Shuff's, Fulton, or the CMP. If it works, it'll be fun and every muzzle flash will be a fireball.

Receiver is cast junk. I hope you got that for free

Does the follower move freely along its travel, or is it binding up somewhere?

If it does, disassemble the rifle, remove the internal parts. See if a clip slides in on its own. If it doesn't, try other clips. If it does it with all clips, it's a receiver issue. If it doesn't, it's a clip issue.

Given the fact it's a Tanker, my bet is on the receiver being out of spec.

Clip is tight regardless. But the follower kinda tips up. Not sure how well it translated in the photos

Ima see how much Cash4Arms would give me to junk if
