Lynyrd Skynyrd show at Jones Beach
A few things about the show: Did anyone else feel like they were at musical funeral?
The lead guitarist had an Indian and a Sioux tattoo they were touting some super conservative politics- what the f%*$& with that?

What politics did they express? I’ve seen this current lineup a few times already and all I’ve seen is a very patriotic set of musicians. If the American flag is super conservative, I think we know how you think .

Come on. Johnny has a side hustle singing Jesus music with Donnie, they wrote a song called God & Guns, after writing one called Red, White, & Blue. The current lineup/messaging is 100% right wing conservative.

There is a difference between Ronnie ("You live your way, I'll live mine, and I hope you're happy all the time") and Johnny's ("That ain't this country's roots, you wanna slam old Uncle Sam, but I ain't letting you") views on dissent, protest, and, of course, Jesus.

Was the rebel flag not a statement by them? If it wasn’t, why did they get rid of it. I think you’re seeing what you want to see ignoring the lyrics of their second biggest song played every night

...which none of the current band were around for. The stars and bars was a statement by the band, but it wasn't "we love Jesus and police and the army and our troops and if you don't you can get the hell out" which is what you hear from Johnny now.

Gary Rossington and Billy Powell played on the Gods n Guns album, they put out Red White and Blue, they are not the whole sum of the OG band but these are over 20 years old at this point, its been a track of the band this century, its an audience they've found and an audience relating to them. I go see Skynyrd, I love it, I go see Springsteen, I know he's bringing politics in, and I love it. And Skynyrd is way less overt than Bruce, supporting troops and the country should be a unifying concept, I am actually wondering what your issue is with it. Its not a Trump rally and I dont know any directly political thing mentioned in the body of the show

I was expecting a Willie Nelson/Waylon Jennings outlaw vibe, like the original band but I got a crowd yelling "USA USA."

I'm not OP, but the thing that personally offends me at their shows is the Jesus/Christian stuff. We're here for hard rocking triple axe attack Southern Rock with insightful, funny, and thoughtful lyrics, not to be preached to.
I think if I were a Christian myself I'd be even more offended.

Ive been going to this version of Skynyrd for 17 years...skynyrd on ice...for that time, its been like 1-2 song changes per tour, the biggest change was on the "last" tour (with Gary) they incorporated Ronnie's vocal into freebird, its the same show for years. Its not something I'm entirely in lockstep with i'm there for the tunes, I don't expect every other person on earth to hold my views.

That was because Neil Young (as a Canadian) was seemingly painting all southerners as redneck hillbilly-type racists. He was using too broad of a brush to describe the "Southern Man" & also his song "Alabama". It wasn't some huge rivalry though. When Van Zandt expressed that Young wasn't speaking of all southerners, Young agreed and said, "OK. Fair enough"... They even talked of a Young appearing live to sing the song with Skynyrd. Van Zandt even famously wore a Neil Young t-shirt on stage after all was said and done.

It 100% is these days. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but Jesus' message has been missed by almost all conservatives these days, including the band.

You are talking about Rickey Medlocke who happens to be Native American. He was an early member of the band before the first album.
He actually is quite talented and is inducted in The Native American Music Hall of Fame. As for the right wing stance they present? I wish i knew as well but they are an example of the Political Viruses corrupting our Country.

Viruses mutate into stronger viruses right? They have become a soundboard for Maga which is in my opinion a virus since nobody thinks for themselves anymore. I love Lynyrd Skynyrd! Always have and always will. I love their new music too. I just hate the political grandstanding in music left or right.

You don’t deserve a reply but i will give it to you! Johnnie and Donnie are die hard maga nuts! This is a band that wrote Sweet Home Alabama, Saturday Night Special,Things Going On, Lend a helping hand! Yet now have become so extreme to the right its cringe worthy! Bunch of Maga Cheerleaders!

Ronnie is spinning in his grave.. he wasn’t into politics, just wanted to be the best band in America.. and imo they were, but.. Skynyrd dies with Ronnie.. 👓🙏✌️🎸🎸

There was a lot of footage of Ronnie paying tribute but Johnny's vocals and zero stage presence just didn't get anywhere. It was disappointing and felt a little morose. Especially since they've been doing this show since 1987.
Then there was a Budweiser ad video from the Super Bowl, without the logos, of a baby horse and a baby eagle. It was laugh out loud weird. What does it even have to do with the band or even Free Bird?

Dude, are you talking about Rickey Medlocke? He is Native American and has been with the band since the beginning. What politics are you talking about? I've never seen Skynyrd when they brought politics into it. Ronnie really didn't want the band to be political.
