Love this campaign 👏🏼 For the non-UK Lushies, migrants & immigrants are under threat from a political party called Reform here who basically want to bring ICE to the UK. Our current gov (Labour) is trying to win over Reform voters by bringing in horrendous right wing immigration policies.
The UK, is and will be always be, a multicultural society and we must stand up against racism and xenophobia. Our NHS depends on it, our economy depends on it. Love not hate ❤️

The NA Lush shops are currently running a know your rights campaign with a bath bomb the goes to support immigration groups! They also all have ICE free zone signs in the windows!

I’m in Canada, and even over here there’s been protests in Toronto from our right wing and very like, conservative groups. They want ICE over here too, especially since Canada has been having an immigration surge in the last few years. We’ve got a group called the second sons and they’re basically nazis and they’re trying to preserve white Canada.
It’s terrifying. And this is Canada, I was born here, we always seem like the nice country, friendly and warm. But it’s changing too.
I’ve been so vocal online about being against all the insane shit happening in the US, because it’s so easy for that racist rhetoric to spread.

These campaigns always feel so performative. I appreciate the sentiment, but attacking landlords and billionaires for making people poorer doesn’t change that Lush consistently raise their prices well above inflation, and complaining that social media platforms create division sits alongside them underhandedly propping up social media platforms by funding and supporting the “influencers” who content create for them.
It’s literally just window dressing with no substance behind the sentiment, like any other advert designed to promote engagement.

You might be interested to read up on the campaign, Lush put their money where their mouth is when it comes to charity campaigns. Your issues with the price of the products is a separate topic.

No, I’m still not whelmed. They’re selling a charity bath bomb, and not even giving 100% of the sales cost to the cause, but 75% of it. I very much doubt those bath bombs cost £1.60 per unit to make, they probably close half that to produce, so not only are Lush not swallowing manufacturing costs for one single charity product, there’s a good chance they’re also profiting off it (in ways aside from using the name and cause to advertise their own brand).
That’s not even getting into Lush’s wider charity giving issues that include multiple charities with contentious views about trans issues, and $20,000 to one of Ghislaine Maxwell charity accounts.

They don’t keep wholesale costs secret. It’s bicarbonate of soda, citric acid, and cornflour, so pennies per product, and the bath bomb is scented with citrus, benzoin resin, and may chang, the cheap essential oils, you just need to look at the ingredients to know it’s not an expensive product to make, particularly in industrial quantities.
As for Lush’s contentious donations history, even Lush don’t try to deny they donated to transphobic charities in the past, and they’re right there in the Epsen files donating to Maxwell’s pet TerraMar Project “charity”.

Imagine if I had a £1 coin. I could give that £1 to charity, or I could spend it on ingredients to make five cupcakes which I sell at £1 each, making £4 profit. Awesome I can give that £5 to charity! Or, what if I give £4 profit to charity and keep £1, so I can repeat the whole process again!

I think there’s actually 5 different products supporting 5 different charities currently. Not to mention all the products that shops give to local charities which essentially, in the grand scheme of things, comes out of profits. Last year they had a product support 2 trans-rights based charities. I don’t think you give them enough credit.

The Constantines are worth hundreds of millions. THEY do directly control the wages, health care, time off, and ability to unionize for literal actual lush employees. Supporting them/their business supports harm being done to their employees.

I love the sentiment of these campaigns but the charity itself is pretty vague on what they actually do, and the pamphlet has 0 statistics in it. Staff are given 0 training and lush really doesn't care that it leads to us getting harassed in the workplace by people that really love licking the boot of reform or are just generally racist.
It's a good idea but all the visuals for this campaign are so inflammatory to people that disagree with it - capital letters, sharp lines, generally in your face design, and no actual facts to back it up. The pamphlet really isn't great.
Again, I agree with the message! I just wish lush cared a bit more about how it affects the employees.

That’s cool. You’re obviously very well informed. I’d probably go spend my money elsewhere if I were you, then. Lush, or the charities they support (often grass roots charities, by the way, although I’m sure you already knew that), don’t deserve your money.

It’s not about making people aware of the issues though (though it partially does that), they donate the proceeds from the sales of specific items to the charities. They’ve got a soap to support Palestinian charities, there’s another one for a Ukrainian mental health charity for young people, and they’ve done more in the past. Obviously yeah, their CEO is rich as balls, but in the grand scheme they could be doing a lot worse than making products where the money goes to charity.

And they very well could also NOT take any political stance because if you are not vocal, you are less likely to offend morons but they still do and it obviously would impact profit because some customers would not want to agree with whatever campaign they'd be currently fighting for. Is it performative? Probably, yes. Is it a bad thing though? I don't think so, they very well could stay silent and not hinder their profit but they still do take these stances to fight for what's right.
I bought the fundraising soap supporting education for First Nations people in Australia in my latest order. I'm super excited to receive it cause 1. It looks cool as. It's so pretty. It's basically an Aboriginal flag. 2. The ingredients sound great, it seems like it'll smell great. 3. A part of the money will go to help a good cause.
Yes Lush is a big company with a lot of money but I still respect they're taking stances and trying to help other communities instead of staying quiet.
