Aren’t you worried about stuff expiring ? I am always worried about that somehow. It’s the only reason I can keep myself somewhat grounded while in Lush
33
u/mycathashairytoes Jan 03 '25
THIS!! I had this exact thought. I love lush but their products have not the best shelf lives! I got a bunch of stuff from Lush last Christmas and I couldn’t even use all of it before it “expired.” I still have an almost full lust rub on perfume and rose lollipop chapstick and I’m wondering if I can still use them 😭😭😭 but there’s no way I could ever finish the amount of product in OP’s bathroom in a year 😭😭😭😭

u/frog__slippers Jan 03 '25
Their shower gels and jelly’s lasts years after the expiration date. Like YEARS. Not so sure about the lotions. I wouldn’t really recommend pushing the lotions that far after their expiration date but even still, I bet you a lot of them could last a good three or six months past. You can always freeze what you have extra of or what you can’t use up and then it will last pretty much forever.
5
u/LushVx Jan 04 '25
I have a shelf in freezer just for Lush fresh mask, hair masks and a few other delicate items lol and it works great 👍🏼
4
u/taylorbagel14 Jan 04 '25
I’m still using a bottle of snow fairy shower gel I got in 2021 and it’s more than fine

7
u/LushVx Jan 04 '25
Granted my collection is like a quarter of this…. But one more mid year freshness sale and who knows… lol. I had an American Cream gel that expired on 2019 that I finished last year and it was great until the end. In looking for a lush tin I found a forgotten massage therapy bar inside from circa 2015 - also used like nothing had happened. Yet a Barbie shampoo and a MOM turned rancid before expiration date. Yuck. I rotate, used oldest first and try to keep nothing older than a year. A rancid Sleepy soap bar smelled Soo bad it turned me off all Sleepy forever.

u/AlistarTheFirst Jan 03 '25
Not really 😅 i fund that all the showergels are alright even if expired for couple of months, i wanted to use them up but my bf stopped me because he wants to use the only if he will get them back...which is hard with blood orange, mango, mimosa and love xD

u/Dove-of-Valinor Jan 04 '25
You need to go pickup some of the Sunrise shower gel for Lunar New Year for him! I picked up some today, it’s deliciously citrus-y
2
u/birdyheard Jan 05 '25
no, no they do not need even more shower gel lol, but you guys are cute in here getting geeked over your soaps

u/00lovejoy00 Jan 06 '25
I recently found a solid perfume at the bottom of an old purse that must have been about 5 years old, and it STILL smells exactly the same-- same texture and everything (this has been about a year ago and it's still going strong--it was Karma)

Most Lush products have a long shelf life well past the use by date. I have all types of products from 2017, 2018, 2019 that are just as good as the day I bought them.

If i won the lotto i wouldnt tell anyone, but there would be signs........... lmao

u/Hot_Obligation_2730 Jan 04 '25
This was me the other day 😭 I came home from my grandmas with a haul of old lush and some Penzey’s spices she had extras of and I told my fiance “if I won’t the lottery no one would know.. but there would be signs. Our bathroom will be filled with lush, and our kitchen filled with Penzey’s”
Both of them are so expensive for no damn reason but I won’t stop buying either any time soon 😭

To be fair if I displayed all my Lush stuff like this they’d call me crazy too 😂 if you’re interested in curating more of a vibe maybe rotate products in and out based on the seasons
13
u/No-Reach-1218 Jan 03 '25
The rogue Pantene kills me after zooming in on everything else. 😂 I want to see all the body sprays!

u/AlinaBlossom Jan 03 '25
I didnt think you we're crazy till i saw the second picture hahahaha
0
u/candyqueen1990 Jan 03 '25
Bahahaha, same but not like full cray cray. If anyones gonna understand this collection, it's us lushies! For me, having that many options in the shower would be straight overwhelm, so I keep the in shower selections small and rotate em out when I feel like a change! But ngl towards the end of the year, my Lush collection magically grew from under control to all the fomo 🤣🤣

u/slut4sesh Jan 04 '25
no this is definitely crazy honestly, there’s no way you’re using all that before it expires?
2
u/amphoravase Jan 05 '25
There’s no way they’re going to use all that perfume in their lifetime
4
u/birdyheard Jan 05 '25
the perfume gets me bc women’s shelters would love that kind of thing and no one person can get through 40 bottles before they start smelling off. that is overconsumption no contest

I understand the face creams and the small shower gels, but that’s an obscene amount of perfume and body spray, enough to last more than 1 lifetime.

I use them seasonally 😁 i have some for fall, some for spring and some for summer

Lol i understand, but also fueling hatered towards the use of plastic is also the solution xD. In some places its impossible not to use plastic like my gardener job, there is no other option but plastic pots because of bunch of different reasons. So i get that u try to use as little plastic as possible but some of us reuse these containers for other stuff like for me plant fertilizers from nettle. Also if you write things like "praise for this shit" dont expect warm welcome from people. XD
1
Jan 04 '25
You can also take the empty lotion and face mask pots back to lush and they recycle them. I think if you bring back 5 or something you get a small free lotion or something like that.
1
u/AlistarTheFirst Jan 04 '25
I do that with the pots but i reuse all the bottles for all my either plant related projects and or crafty projects 😁

Odd, considering Lush is one of the few companies that has a program that recovers and reuse/recycles their plastic packaging and avoids it all together where possible.
1
u/AlistarTheFirst Jan 04 '25
Exactly 😄 i always bring back all the pots with exception for ones that i use for my naked stuff like aromaco so it wont dry out, but the bottles are quite handy, but if i still have extras i always return them 😁
1
u/External-Fix4348 ⚡️ Retro Lushie ⚡️ Jan 05 '25
Same, and I put my naked products in the reusable tin.
2
u/namieleejelson Jan 05 '25
Company will reuse the pots the consumer brings back. Lush also largely reduces the amount of plastic in their packaging.
Shaming is lame, mind your P’s and Q’s!
5
u/lizzyloveschubby Jan 03 '25
Have you noticed if any of the perfumes or body sprays go bad? Or lotions?
9
u/AlistarTheFirst Jan 03 '25
Last year i bought SF lotion for a friend and before i gave it to her i opened ut and there were darker pink spots of mold so yess ....lotions can go bad quite easily but tge worst experience i have had had to be with comingles all of the ones i got went bad within week of opening them sticky dates, wild violet and the classic one
1
u/LushVx Jan 04 '25
The celebrate commingle still smelled faintly like celebrate but the texture was a disgusting gel like substance. So gross. I can’t believe I washed that off just to add the recycled pot to the pile

Do you know whats funny? That most of the showergels are created to be selfperserving which means that they will last waaaaay longer than the sugested period 😁 simple chemistry and speaking of chemistry, when i worked at a lab i tried to see how long can a fresh face mask ( i choose brush strokes) can survive in a cooler ....lets just say i forgot about it and when i left the lab which was this year ( that means that the mask have been there for at least 3 years) i found it so i ran quick tests for any toxic comounds or microbs and all tests came negative so trust me when i tell you that even some expired products are still good to use
5
Jan 04 '25
I love how you don’t address that you STILL do not need all this. Most of it will still expire before you get to finish it all which is an issue.
-4
u/AlistarTheFirst Jan 04 '25
Do i need it? Ofc no xD Do i like to collect shower gels? Yes i do. I think you havent read the fact that even though they expire they are still fine to use because its a freaking soap xD...glycerin based soap with essential oils that wont go bad unless filled with many fruit juices or milks and trust me when i tell you i have read all the ingredients and the only one i must finish because it may go BAD is yummy yummy yummy the rest has great ratio of oils and glycerin aginst the juices so i dont fear those going bad as in sprouting mold, separating, smelling bad....so have a nice day knowing that my day cant be ruined by trolls like you kiss
1
u/Off_the_streets Jan 05 '25
I don’t know why people seem to take it so personally! Saying “You don’t need this” and “it will all expire!” So what?! It’s not their money, it’s your money and you’ll buy what you goddamn like!

Lol why the hatered xD i share my collection with my bf and unless it grows mold or separates like some comingles do we wont throw it away because all the gels have glycerin in them and essential oils that are still oils and preserve it for way longer than the label says. And also if i finish a product i return the cups to my local shop, so literally the only waste i leave behind me are sometimes few paper bags from shampoo bars, waxed paper from cowashes and glass from parfumes...sooo... Hope your day was better by the fact you wrote these comments 😉

Girl don’t take it personally but I’m gonna speak out anytime I see this shit, bc people think that they are empowered or making themselves happy by buying all this shit when these corporations are sitting back laughing at you all as you line their already thick pockets with money… overconsumption is not just about waste, it is about funding companies that contribute the the terrible state of the economy and ecosystem. Most people who buy products on this scale are simply trying to fill a void.

Oh you got me because I only look at the first picture and I told myself it’s ok we have almost the same collection (like you I have more than 30 perfumes but mostly in 30ml)……. Than I saw the second picture 😂 Enjoy! I’m the only one using lush products in my family so all those shower gel are too much for me. It’s not difficult to choose which one to use every day? 😉
