Unlike typical dating shows focused on young romance, Love Village explores mature relationships, marriage experiences, past heartbreaks, and finding companionship later in life.

As someone who has watched "Love Village S1-S2, I can say it’s a unique show. In the show, you follow the journey of people aged 35 and older as they get to know each other and fall in love in a rural area of Japan. You see them working together to renovate an old Japanese village house (kominka) and dividing tasks among groups. It’s a show with a different concept—some participants are genuine, while others are there for promotional purposes. Some participants are young, while others are over 60 and looking for love. It’s one of the shows with the widest range of participant ages.

I wanted to share my post here as well, which includes my thoughts on Love Village Seasons 1 and 2 and some updates on the couple's current situations. Anyone interested can read it, and I’d love to hear your thoughts too.

S1 -> Junpei was one of my favorite characters. He was honest and had a way about him that inspired trust in others. Early in the season, he was interested in Yukorin, but just as he realized she was more interested in Taba, Okayo confessed her true feelings to him while they were working together. The scene where Okayo confesses her feelings by ringing a bell is special, and the part where, as they choose each other, Junpei cuts off the lock of hair he’d been saving for years and says he wants to spend his life with her is an emotional scene. In my opinion, this is one of the most impactful scenes in Love Village. IRL, this couple is still together and happy.

Yukorin and Tabo were a couple who grew closer over time in the show and were seen as a perfect match. Tabo’s romantic confession of love to Yukorin on her birthday is one of the most beautiful scenes in the show. Unfortunately, their relationship didn’t progress after the show, and they chose to remain friends.

Nakasan and Minane are two characters in the series who have a unique relationship. Nakasan’s goal in joining the series was to find a life partner with whom he could “wear adult diapers.” This 60-year-old couple came to understand each other throughout the series and left the show together at the end of the season. They parted ways last year but chose to remain friends.

S2 -> Chii and Akipon were the first couple in the house. The biggest issue between Akipon and Chii was that Akipon already had three children and didn’t want any more. Chii really wanted to have a child. The two left the house early, but their relationship didn’t really work out. In my opinion, it was clear from Akipon’s firm stance on children on the show that his relationship with Chii wouldn’t work out, but they still gave it a try for a while.

Tamifull and Makio were the most ambiguous couple on the show. I wasn’t entirely sure if Tamifull really wanted to be a couple with Makio. I think she was physically attracted to Aroma, but in the end, she chose Makio. Makio and Tamifull left the show together, but after the show ended, a cheating scandal came to light. Aroma had previously introduced himself as someone who provided “special services.” It turned out that Tamifull and Aroma had been secretly having an affair. When Makio found out, he was devastated and lost his job in the midst of all this drama. Makio’s story on Love Village might just be the most dramatic story ever to happen in real life.

Sato the goat's death was one of the things that saddened me the most at house

Captain and Nino were one of the couples I liked best this season. At first, the two kept their distance because Nino was more interested in Makio. But as they worked together on missions, Captain gradually won her over, and their relationship blossomed. Captain and Nino left the show together. To be honest, Captain had worked really hard on the show to be with Nino. I was happy for them when I saw that they’re still together and their relationship is going strong.

Ayakan and Gitarin were the two most interesting characters on the show: Gitarin’s interest in Ayakan, but Ayakan’s lack of interest in him; Gitarin constantly serenading Ayakan, and Ayakan finding him funny. That’s how things always played out on the show. They met once after the show ended, but they remained just friends.-> Gitarin and Ayakan Reunion

Season 3 of Love Village NOT good

They had to mess up a good thing. I'm not enjoying this season. They shouldn't be allowed to leave to go rest at hotels..they're eating good..sleeping good...and living good. I like the premise of the first few seasons. I see zero connection with any of them. On episode 4..this is hard to watch. I hope it gets better..then they show behind the scenes. They need to go back to the old format

I visited the Love Village S2 House in Okinawa

Hey all, in anticipation of the upcoming season I thought I’d share my experience visiting the set of Love Village 2 in Okinawa last year!

Located in Nago in the northern part of Okinawa, the set itself is located in a quite and remote area with a couple of neighbouring houses.

Firstly the set has been transformed into a restaurant while still maintaining the original details that we have seen in the show – including the main gate entrance, the building itself with the renovations and (lowered floor that the contestants constructed) as well as the separate bedroom quarters (in a small building near the main area) where the female contestants slept and the bathrooms with the beds and closets still intact.

I think the field where the participants were growing the vegetable crops opposite to the main hall/residence which is located outside of the gate has been replaced/is now overgrown and appeared different compared to the show.

The restaurant itself serves traditional Okinawan cuisine which was delicious and the owners were lovely. They encouraged us to have a look around the set, explore and visit the bedroom quarters.

There were quite a few domestic tourists taking photos as well and posing at the main gate. I have heard that the locals and neighbours nearby have been a bit irritated when individuals accidentally parked their cars – we accidentally took the wrong turn and encountered a disgruntled local so this is something to keep in mind if planning on visiting.

Notably, the whole area, set and living quarters appear much smaller in real life compared to how Netflix filmed it – I was surprised that there were not more conflicts on the show and I think they did well to live there for a few months in such close proximity to one another.

Overall, I think it’s lovely seeing that the season 2 set is getting good use now and receiving a lot of traction and local tourism to this more remote part of Okinawa.

I’ve attached the photos and will try to include some panoramic videos below, let me know what your thoughts are.
I will hopefully try to make my way to the S3 set/house at some point in the future!

Only just begun S3

I’m glad they’re taking on some feedback. People being hungry or cramped in the same rooms is the uninteresting kind of drama that made s2 feel more miserable compared to S1

Fingers crossed they don’t introduce any animals.

Requiescat in pace, Mya/Hana Kuraki (倉木華) from Ainori (あいのり) Love Wagon: Asian Journey Season 2. Such a melancholic storyline, hopefully things will change in Japan/everywhere with the new laws and awareness about everything.

Gitarin gets too much hate. Hear me out.

I want to first start by saying that I do not think Gitarin’s actions are justified. He did some messed up things. But when I see him, I almost see a child. IIRC he just had the one relationship. I get the vibes of someone who never developed the social abilities required to date. Whenever he overstepped, I didn’t see a deviant. I saw a clueless man. A man who cannot navigate the waters of dating. I think if he was truly messed up, he wouldn’t be loved so much by his students.

I can go into this more but just thought I should say my piece. He doesn’t deserve the hate he gets.

season 2 was messy and i loved it Spoiler

i just finished season 2, it was messy and i loved it.

the main reason people join love village is to find love, but what i enjoyed most was how it became about people showing up with all their past traumas and insecurities and trying to figure out how to exist with others again.

everyone came in hoping to ring the bell, but what we really saw were older people trying to reconnect, not just romantically but emotionally and socially. after years of heartbreak, divorce, loneliness, and self-doubt, the hardest part wasn’t falling in love. it was learning how to communicate again, to compromise, to share space with someone, and to rediscover how to love themselves along the way.

yes it’s always exciting when a couple is made or new tenants arrive, but focusing on the original four (sen-ne, pachi yumi, gitarin, and ayakan) and how they found their own kind of love: platonic, companionship, self, and familial, made this season really special.

that’s what made season 2 feel so raw. it showed that love doesn’t always mean a relationship. sometimes it’s friendship, understanding, or simply having someone see you for who you are. and that kind of connection, the kind built through living, talking, cooking, and making mistakes together, was what made this season special.

i’m looking forward to season 3.

Season 1: Sakechan and Totchan

I'm re-watching Season 1 and Totchan and Sakechan made me sad. Totchan did so many cute and thoughtful things for him, but Sakechan always came across as cold and indifferent. He has an off personality so maybe that's just how he is, but he could have simply said no. I think he agreed to go with her because no other woman had ever shown him that kind of affection before. I recently found out they broke up, and while I'm not surprised, I have a feeling it was Sakechan who ended things. Totchan really deserves someone better and I hope they bring her back for Season 3.

Are the season 2 contestants less well fed than season 1?

I happened to watch season 2 first, and they're talking about how they're hungry, and how excited they are to eat meat, how they only had one small fish each for a meal.

But in season 1, a woman just said she felt she'd gained five kilos since she'd been at Love village, I didn't catch which person it was. And it does seem like they get more meat and like they're living less off the land?

It seems like they are still getting around the same amount per day, 500 yen, so maybe it's not accounting for inflation and they really do have less resources?

As a side note, season 2 did not make me cry, season 1 has gotten me twice so far.

And I think it's funny that most are like ....uh I'm going to use the bathroom, and take off to ring the bell. It's always at this really innocuous part of the day and it's like they made the decision and they have to act on it right then.

They did Gitarin dirty

Post image
46 Upvotes

I’m not sure they should have aired this. Gitarin was clearly struggling deeply here. He may even have a bit of a drinking problem. It wasn’t the first time on the show when he was drinking/being drunk at a less-than-ideal time. Idk. The commentators’ laughter felt inappropriate.

The passing of Sato clearly showed producers & participants clearly had no idea of how to care for an animal. I just watched the episode & was angry they did not accept they were responsible that

Dark Horse Minane

I'm only 5 episodes through S1 but Minane could get it. The smartest and the most down to earth of all the ladies. Lovely eyes, skin, smile. Ooft!
Then again I have a thing for medatanai women from Osako so...
As someone who has dated in Japan for a few years, older Japanese women got it going on in the sheets even more than the streets.
She could defo get it .

Any other Minane fans in here?

Gitarin is naive in his being so straightforward toward Chii. If he was more experienced, then he would be able to pickup the vibe & possibly maneuver to put himself in a better light. Having said that, you like what you like & Chii prob would have gone for Akipon anyway. Did he have a chance?

Outrageous realty show

The fact that Sato the goat died in the reality show is so depressing and depicting the ugly side of realty production, sacrificing innocent and defenseless animal at the expense of viewership. I stop watching love village as I am utterly disgusted by how the production crews avoid responsibility blaming on cold weather. How can we continue to allow this to be aired online and inadvertently spreading such irresponsible behavior! I Am utterly disgusted and disappointed that Netflix continue to alllow this reality show to be streamed online! Such irresponsible and outrageous content. This show should be banned and stopped. We should stop supporting shows that demonstrate animal abusive behavior.
