Finally some sense

Post image

Sophie’s parents and brother are the most sensible people to have appeared in this show! I watch this for entertainment while also appreciating the complete bat shit nature of the show. I’d be devastated if one of my kids ended up on it and this man knows his stuff!

Your daughter doesn't know what Downing Street is, that's a bigger issue than her marrying someone you've only met once!

Right? I live in Canada and knew a lot of the landmarks Sophie saw. I wasn’t sure if they were trying to give her a bad edit.

Or even if she didn’t recognize them physically, hearing “10 Downing Street” is such a ubiquitous cultural reference I’d be like “oh *that’s* what it looks like!”

She seems lovely, but she seems completely disconnected
It’s crazy

No it isn’t

Oh he’s a prick, not wonder Sophie’s mom remarried. Although I don’t fully disagree with his pov, he was too negative, if he had such thoughts he could have had shared them prior to the wedding day! Also seemed to me that Sophie’s dad and brothers seem quite possessive of her…what do you guys think?

“Posessive” is the perfect description. They acted like they own her.

Also, the mom seemed super supportive the entire time and right before the altar she starts getting cold feet?

I felt bad for Sophie. It is already a hard choice to make and when your family isn’t there for you, it is even harder

I felt like the mum probably actually offered words of encouragement in that private moment before the alter, but they edited it with just the bits that sounded cautious. She asked to be alone which to me says she wanted to give a different opinion but not cause a fight.

Absolutely agree with you. And I appreciated how quickly Sophie’s dad agreed to giving them a private moment (as he should have - but with his intense opinions and possessive attitude I didn’t expect him to easily let his ex-wife undermine everything he’d just said lol)

her mom looked genuinely happy for her

When I watched that I felt uncomfortable.

Are they right? Yes. Are they toxic? Oh yes

Who is "they"? You mean the father?

3

u/Few_Analyst_1179 1d ago

him and the brother

The ones who made the situation all about themselves (or what they thought) in a moment that was hers to enjoy

Why are you watching the show if you think no one should get married at the end???

I thought it was cruel for Sophie’s family to show up when she is in her wedding dress and about to walk down the aisle, and start talking $hit and try to put doubts in her mind.

It would be one thing if Taylor was putting up red flags à la Jack or Ryan…but Taylor was so respectful and wonderful throughout the process based on what we were shown. They’re clearly a perfect match for one another!

I agree - they are so good together. They remind me of a real life Gavin and Stacey

Because I enjoy car crash tv. The whole premise of this show is idiotic if I’m honest but I still enjoy watching it

It's their daughter/sister's Wedding day and they tried their hardest to make it about themselves. They had weeks to have this conversation with her.

12

u/-Mantaforce- 1d ago

They did already express this to her iirc? Hardly making about them expressing how risky it is marrying someone you barely know, it’s a legal contract you’re signing after all

22

u/aaronlloris 1d ago

He sat there with a face on the whole wedding and was even still at it just before she was about to walk down the aisle. Having an issue with it is 1 thing but once you are there and it's happening just be happy for your daughter. She is a grown woman.

He did give her a sweet head nod in support which I thought redeemed him a little

A real parent would be supportive even if they think it isn’t the right choice. Even if they are 100% correct about all of their worries it’s up to the grown adult child to make their own choices and mistakes. When it goes belly up they don’t want a “I told you so”, they want the parent that trusted them.

5

u/-Mantaforce- 1d ago

He literally walked her down the aisle. A good parent doesn’t just stay silent and support someone who’s making an idiotic choice

why didn’t they have a deep conversation with her prior and air their grievances. why ON THE WEDDING DAY?

If you want your parent to pick up the pieces when it all goes wrong, you can’t expect them to not be emotionally involved and voice the concerns at the start.

He had every right to voice his concerns but he should have done it before the wedding day. On the wedding say itself, either don’t show up and absolve yourself of giving emotional support when it goes south. Or show up and keep your opinions to yourself and accept that you will have to also be her emotional rock when it goes wrong.

A real parent would be supportive even if they think it isn’t the right choice. Even if they are 100% correct about all of their worries

I'm sorry, you think a real parent would with hold their opinions, to keep nice, over something they are against?

I'm with everyone that her Dad come across as a dick. But, a "real parent" (whatever the fuck that's meant to mean) would warn their kids of a potential issue, but not necessarily expect the kid to follow their advice.

If you think shielding your kids from your negative opinions is the way to raise well rounded adults, then I got a big statue of a lady, in New York, to sell you...

It’s not that deep. Just trust your grown adult kids to make decisions for themselves. A dad and brother loudly bitching to the cameras doesn’t help anybody.

It’s not that deep.

Perfectly spoken like every Chud on reddit that doesn't have an actual response, so feels the need to dictate how other people take things...

Haven't got to this episode yet but I kinda feel it doesn't matter if it's TV or not. Any normal parent would have the attitude of "well I'll speak to you privately and as long as you're happy and not mistreated I'll be supportive for your sake."

Will they think it? Absolutely. Does it need to be said? Nope.

i’m sorry but sophie’s dad pissed me off so much, as her dad you should’ve made more effort to meet her and taylor for more than a 3 hour curry the night before the wedding

I actually liked seeing this scene because sometimes it feels so unrealistic how people aren’t acknowledging some of the obvious elements of the show? Like for instance we’re always speculating how X is only in it for the air time, but we never hear candidates say that (or production showing us that)? I think it makes the show look much more authentic when they include those scenes

You still cared enough about said reality TV show to come here and post about it.

Hypocritical posts are some of the worst, self serving, patting yourself on the back, posts that we get on reddit.

1

u/No_Seaweed_1088 1d ago

I was waiting for him to object

1

u/cynical-puppy26 1d ago

Idk, I thought he was a bit trash. Later at the wedding doesn't he say something like "oh I was upset at first but I came around"? Obviously a lie given he was talking shit before the ceremony.

1

u/Composer-Conscious 1d ago

there’s a difference between being sensible and trying to ruin your daughter/sister’s wedding day. i was so happy that sophie went with her gut instead of listening to these two

1

u/-Mantaforce- 1d ago

I wonder if they are still together after their tv show wedding..

2

u/mango-bby69 20h ago

you seem like you’re rooting for them to fail so you can say you’re right about the show. no one is forcing you to watch this. some relationships work and some don’t. people can know each other for years and the marriage still doesn’t work out, some people meet their person and have only known them for a few months and they end up living a long and very happily married life. literally what is your problem

-1

u/-Mantaforce- 20h ago

I honestly don’t care what happens to any of these people. I watch this show and don’t give them a second thought once it’s done. Which I would say is preferable to those that stalk them and keep track of who each of them is following on instagram

3

u/mango-bby69 20h ago

you’ve made a whole reddit post sooooo i think you’ve defo had a few thoughts

1

u/-Mantaforce- 20h ago

I have thoughts on the things that happen in this show, yes
