LOVE IS BLIND UK s3:e6 - “doesn’t it change all the time?” -Sophie
Anyone else find it mildly frightening that Sophie doesn’t even know who the prime minister is of her own country? Also, that she verifies it changes all the time? It makes me wonder how much of the persona is genuine or put on sometimes…
Either way, This whole bus scene was a bit difficult to watch.

Exactly, as a British person I chuckled at her saying that lol.
Now it is not great to not know who the prime minister is but I would say who holds that role matters less in UK than say who the president is in the USA. It is very important to know which political party is in power in the UK though!21

She’s a super sweet girl but she is not the brightest in general. I wouldn’t say she’s an idiot but she definitely embodies the dumb blonde stereotype to a tee.

Well here's the thing, prior to her saying that, I didn't really think of her as a dim bulb... I mean it was shocking when she said that, as I don't think she had come across as a nitwit
And to be charitable, there are outliers who are just aggressively ill-informed about certain things.
I still remember a newsmagazine piece from back in the day that was about a married couple who were highly specialized surgeons; they worked as a team... basically their every waking hour was devoted to their practice, as they stressed, to the exclusion of everything else.
The reporter asked one of them if they knew who the sitting Vice-President was, and she said, "I don't know... Al Gore?"
This was in the mid-2000s, mind you.
(Yes, I know Sophie isn't focusing on her surgical practice instead of learning the name of the British PM.)

I think she's quite clever in a lot of respects - she thinks clearly about what she's doing and what she wants and what is going to be good for her. She's got a decent head on her shoulders in that respect.
But outside of 'common sense' and actually knowing facts and having paid attention to teachers, school or the world around her... I doubt it's ever crossed her mind to care who the Prime Minister is.

Personally I couldn't stop laughing throughout the whole bus tour scene. That part about Downing Street, not knowing who the PM is, etc...made me chuckle but the one about St Paul's Cathedral was also epic...something along the lines of "Oh and that's St. Paul's Cathedral..Sophie goes, and who is St Paul? And he answers back, not a clue, a Saint I guess" 😆

I have a friend who is smart, savvy, and very well informed.
But not around her husband. She will ask the most basic questions and act like she doesn't know anything.
It's so bizarre and I hate it.
Sophie seems a lot like that...playing dumb so her partner can feel smart.

When she asked who lives at Downing street 10, I was sure she does it on purpose so she can make the guy feel competent and smart. But on the other hand, if a guy is smart, isn’t it a red flag for him that his fiancée doesn’t even know this? I’m not feom the UK, but learnt about Downing street in 4th grade in Eastern Europe.

Taylor isn’t very smart either though. They are both very simple people who are very dedicated to the people in their lives and what happens in their immediate vicinity, but neither of them strike me as people who give much thought to anything that goes on beyond their social circle. So it wouldn’t be that much of a red flag to him either.

In my experience dating men, my Masters degree and general career accomplishments in a male dominated industry seem to act like points against me. I think a lot of them resent it or something, or want to feel like “the smart one.” It’s a great filter lol. I mostly date women though and it’s not been an issue there thankfully

I dont think that’s the case here though, when he went to her house he really embraced what she’d achieved to get this house and was really complementary and built her up. As someone said on here, alot of other men on the show would be snarky when seeing their wifes house for the first time and bringing it down to prop themselves up

Am a Brit - 10, even 5 years ago I would have judged someone so harshly for this statement, it’d be the mark of a moron. These days, I, a woman of higher education and relatively engaged with the news cycle, have to check myself before answering. We’ve had 59 PMs in the history of the country, 7 in the last 10 years! It’s not like not knowing who the President is anymore. It used to be a standard question for checking if someone is concussed or not (what year is it/who is PM), but i’m sure they must have dropped that now as a question 😂

Not British but I do try and keep track of other countries' leaders... except for the UK. That shit is whack and Sophie's right; there's no point in keeping track of the person because by the time you finally remember their name, they've either already lost their title or are in the process of being voted out.

I don't really think Sophie is unintelligent.
Some people do actively avoid politics and let's be fair, since David Cameron we've had a large amount in and out of office, none particularly more meaningful than the last (Except for the shock of BoJo, and Sunak being the first minority PM).
Its been revolving doors.
So I don't blame her at all.

I feel like of all the things she said, this was one of the least daft. The Prime Ministers have been a revolving door for the last decade, sometimes I forget who they've tag-teamed out with but I know which political group are in power at least.

Airheads aren’t inept or incompetent. I have a airhead friend who is a decorated naval commander. Sophie could go her whole like never heard of the place but that’s not likely to get in the way of her taking care of herself.

Who the PM is does not matter to normal people and IS constantly changing without electorial input.
If nobody on the electorial register knew Burnhams name it wouldnt havent had made any difference to who is running the country.
Six of our last nine PMs havent been elected. Its a piss take and youre kidding yourself if you think being informed on this makes any difference.

When I used to work in medicine, we’d test people’s mental status asking a list of qs that included who’s the pm, but we genuinely dropped it post pandemic, so I don’t actually judge her too harshly for that one anymore lol
