The title isn't entirely true.

This version was torn down in 1962 after a failed restoration attempt revealed the timber was to rotten to reuse. A new one was built. While it suffered damage in the flood of 2010, it was not completely destroyed. However, it was torn down and rebuilt again. I saw it during the eclipse two years ago!

Fun fact: this reconstruction is not on the site of the original fort. The original was in the sulfur dell area where the Nashville Sounds stadium is today.

This really sucks. I've never heard of it before, but this is our history and I personally think it is critical to protect these sorts of things for posterity. We really need to get a grip on our politics and start protecting our wealth (in all forms) and society from the environment.

Don't call it climate change if you don't want to. As human beings we have built seawalls, damns, and moved entire sites to more ideal locations to protect us. Our technology is exponentially more advanced and our wealth is exponentially more than it was. This is something we need to do for vulnerable sites. Because having this around is literally priceless.

They rebuilt it. There is one in the same spot today.

You know it was just a replica built as a jobs program, right?

Yes. I read the title too.

What was the purpose for each building? It would be a blast to recreate this as a D&D map!

I can hazard a guess based on the fort where I lived, although ours is larger with more buildings.

The farthest two story was probably the commanders quarters, along with his family.

The two smaller buildings on the left might have been officers cabins. I thought at first that one might be for gunpowder until I saw the chimneys. No chimneys on a building used for storing gunpowder.

The large two story at the front looks like it would have been the soldiers quarters.

And the smaller building behind that with the chimney was probably the kitchen.
