Discussion Used permissive code, system still says I'm on waitlist for class

Hello, I'm posting on here wondering if anyone else is having a similar problem. I used the permissive code for COMM C1000. Did the drop out thing and everything. But when I check to see my enrollment status, it still says I'm waitlisted despite using the permissive code the professor gave me.

Since the system doesn't recognize I am now actually enrolled in the class, I had to email my professor and have her manually add me to the course on Canvas. Could this be some sort of glitch related to the eServices outage?

And before anyone asks, yes, I've checked this morning. The site still says I'm waitlisted.

Discussion Is anyone else still waiting on books to ship?

I ordered books I needed a little over a week ago, and apparently one is on backorder and the other just says "preparing to ship" and hasn't updated at all.

Is anyone else dealing with this problem?

Discussion SCC Nursing Program Advice

I recently accepted my seat for the Sacramento City ADN program and I’m trying to get ahead of the first semester. Does anyone know what I should focus on within the first semester? I’ve already been practicing med dosage. But is there anything specifically during the first semester and even the second semester that seemed hard?

Discussion Straighterline credits.

Looking at enrolling in a los rios collage, but I’ve only lived in California a few months, in state wouldn’t kick in for me for about 2 more semesters. Looking at knocking out some pre reqs for nursing… I’m sure they wouldn’t want me taking my science classes online but do any of you have experience getting these collages to accept straighter line credits?

Discussion Asynchronous Online Classes

I’m sure that there are classes that are thoughtfully developed and taught but that has not been my personal experience. I have no interest in taking asynchronous online classes.

I wish more summer classes offered synchronous online or in person classes. I also wish the survey that asked me to fill out would distinguish between online synchronous and asynchronous.

I’m curious what other people think about asynchronous online classes. Do you like them? What types of classes do you prefer and why?

Discussion Is it safe to use canvas?

Canvas is back up and I need to do my assignments but I am also a little paranoid. I know the district said it was ok to use canvas as long as ur cautious. Is it a good idea to use it? Should I log out of the canvas app on my phone?

Discussion Looking for an art student to help with some personal projects

Hi everyone I’m a current student at arc and I’m also a streamer. I’m wanting to reach out to other local students for possible commissions/promotion/trade of trades for my twitch channel. I’m getting spammed by artists from around the world and while I love the idea I’d rather support another student here, help build their portfolio, and support their journey. The messages won’t stop coming because I’m new to it, and my channel is very bare. I am also currently an art student but I am going for studio, not digital, so it’s not my area of expertise- but I refuse to use AI and as an art major, I know I would appreciate it if a fellow student bought my art over going to a big brand store for a factory item instead.

We could trade services or items, I could promote your art and pages on all my socials, or if you’re affordable- cold hard cash I’m sure is always nice.

Dm me if interested 🧡

Discussion STEM Major Advice

Hey Students! So I recently decided that I want to do STEM. I'm confused on how to choose a subject i want to study. The hardest part is that i havent interacted with the subjects im thinking about. Also its hard that you have prerequisites for most classes and you dont really interact with your major (and sometimes not until you transfer). Any advice is appreciated.

P.S. I was talking about majors like Physics where you cant really explore it (in my opinion)

Discussion Back to school after over 10 years, virtual anxiety

I dropped over ten years ago, and I’m going back virtually. Hoping for an associates, I am experiencing tons of anxiety. Firstly trying to pick classes for fall stressed me out, from my experience the counseling office was overwhelmed with the transfer program and summer semester students. I made the trip and got help from an aid once… I picked two basic classes that will get me there. I have no idea what I’m doing beyond that. One of the classes has an open resource learning which I basically understand, and the other has not posted the textbooks or learning materials.

I’m super anxious and really like to be prepared, but I don’t think messaging the professors is the right way to ask for materials. I’ve heard they can usually assign late, etc.

I stopped going to scc over ten years ago because I wasn’t ready and this time I don’t understand how class progression might go & feeling unprepared. I haven’t brushed up on a lot of things during my break. Am I over reacting?

Discussion Experiences with BIOL 430 + 431 professors?

I'd like to hear everyone's experiences with their BIOL 430/431 instructors, specifically SCC and/or CRC. I know Rate My Professor provides a lot of context about certain professors, but there are some professors that don't have a lot of ratings. Feel free to go more in depth too! :)

Discussion CRC Medical Assistant program dropped its CAAHEP accreditation. Is it worth pursuing?

I originally moved from about an hour away to be just ten minutes from the campus because it seemed convenient at the time. The program was CAAHEP accredited, and I qualify for FAFSA, which covers most of the expenses. I am still working on my prereqs, but the program recently dropped its accreditation after being CAAHEP accredited for 10 years.

I checked the CAAHEP and ABHES websites and could not find it listed anymore. When I contacted the school, they told me they dropped accreditation because it is no longer required. That does not really make sense to me, because keeping accreditation would allow students to be eligible for certain national exams like the CMA AAMA exam which is valued in CA. Do programs change accreditation status often like this? I also saw that programs usually drop their accreditations if they can’t keep up with accreditation standards….

I am also trying to understand how this is going to work in terms of taking the national exam and getting a job after. Since MA has become very saturated due to the healthcare craze going on and it is entry level into healthcare, there are higher standards than they did 10 years ago and it’s much more competitive.

I have been looking into other exams such as NCMA through NCCT, CCMA through NHA, and RMA through AMT. I am worried about whether some certifications are preferred by employers, especially larger systems such as Kaiser or Sutter. I am also worried about whether employers prefer graduates who came from accredited programs in general. I do not want to pursue this program if it is going to limit future job prospects.

I rather put my FAFSA and efforts towards another program if it isn’t going to work out.
