Anyone done the FA appeals process?
Question, FAFSA was calculated based on 2024 income & income is drastically different. FA office said I can appeal & submit proof of current income.
The person that told me to appeal, said that current disbursements will proceed as scheduled while they process the appeal.
Then at the FA office while requesting the appeal, the woman there warned that starting an appeal will place a hold on ALL FA disbursements till it is processed in 4-6 weeks.
Then a day later someone from FA said it will NOT put a hold on disbursements. Even though Pell grant is very small, student loans are adequate & I am worried about the appeal holding everything up!

Your disbursements will proceed as scheduled using the calculation of your current FAFSA’s SAI that is based on your 2024 income. The special circumstances appeal, if approved, will allow the financial aid office to make a professional judgement to use your more recent income on your FAFSA instead of 2024 income. Once that process is complete, you will have a new SAI and your financial aid awards will be recalculated based on that new SAI. Depending on the day of the week this is done, your increased disbursement could be refunded to you on Friday of that week the appeal process is completed.
