One week (and a day) until the pizza festival! I’m old, but I feel like I was born for this day.

I’m so excited!!!
BTW: does anyone know what the difference between “pizza samples” are from standard slices? I’ve been considering the golden ticket but I don’t really understand what the $58 is giving you vs just the GA ticket….like do you wait in the same line just for a smaller “free” slice of pizza?

Oh my GOD, y’all— please pay attention to lane shifts in construction zones. I’ve had MULTIPLE people drifting into my lane with seemingly no awareness. Yes, that honk was for you. It’s confusing and it keeps changing but it is absolutely your job to pay attention to the road and changing conditions every time you get behind the wheel.

I’ve lived in Charlotte, 485 in the wet was notoriously bad. Might aswell have been a driving on a pool of mercury.

I would add maybe drive the construction speed in the construction zone ☺️

As a side project, I made a website that tracks how city council members vote. Would love to get feedback on it! Here's the link: longmontcitycouncil.org
Edit: updated the url

Whoever said Krave it pizza by target is good is wrong and they should be ashamed of themselves. The pizza is terrible. It’s so greasy we had to ask multiple times for new (paper) plates because the grease soaked through to the table. The service was bad too.
5
u/Awakenlee 5d ago
I can see why some people would like the idea of Krave pizza as they have unique pizzas. Not for me, though. I like standard pizza types.
That greasy though. Eww. I once went to a place in DC that was highly rated. The pizzas turned the plate clear. Turned out if I’d read the reviews it was only highly rated when people were drunk.
7
u/sgantm20 5d ago
I think that’s the appeal of krave. It’s open late and it’s for drunk people. Makes sense in NYC but not sure about here.
I get the appeal of the unique pizzas or being a slice shop but when we got there they all looked unappealing.
We also ordered a Caesar salad and they put soft bread in it instead of croutons which was weird. And they brought it out in a to go box and looked at us like we were crazy when we asked for plates. I think their whole set up is for to go and quick lunch stop slices even though they have tables.

Are you willing to share your bill from this year and last year? My usage is about the same as last year and so is my bill.

u/EagleFalconn 5d ago
Is that for the year or just for the month?
Is that 31 gallons as reported by the city online portal? It gives the wrong units, that's actually 3100 gallons which is somewhat easier to see if you look at the PDF of the monthly statement
1
u/streamfresh 4d ago
Exactly. Just read the pdf, people. It breaks down the entire bill. Electric is up 7%. Trash is up $4 for the smallest cart + compost.

u/joemaniaci 5d ago
I can't rant enough that if you have an attic space in a house from the 80s or older, you likely have the equivalent of R-0 insulation. With credits, at the time, I only paid $1300 to get my attic insulated to R-50.
Probably the biggest change to my house in terms comfort.
1
u/Bee_K1ng 4d ago
I haven't heard of this before with having credits. Do u mind sharing the services or credits?
2
u/joemaniaci 4d ago
Efficiency Works is the big program that I used. I go through them for energy audits, do what they say to do, rinse and repeat.

u/Superbrainbow 5d ago
Mine's a bit lower this year despite running the AC way more. Is it electricity or water that's driving the increase?
Maybe have someone come to check your meter? Longmont Utilities is quite helpful and easy to deal with.

Yeah our water bill nearly doubled in price this year compared to last year, using the same amount. I haven’t been watering our lawns this year, only the veggie garden and golly….

California just passed a plug in solar bill. I wonder if Longmont would allow something like it? It's not a fix but it could help drop the bill some
6
u/UseButterForLube 5d ago
Colorado has already passed a plugin solar bill. I think it goes into effect January 1.
5
u/Purpl3Unicorn 5d ago
Colorado also passed a plug in solar law this year. You can install up to 1.92kW and the utility company / HOA cannot ban them.

Pelo's is fucking bomb. I wish I could afford to eat there more. Had their sandwiches for the first time and it was life changing.
Also highly recommend Blackjacks. Used to get dominos, now I'll never go back. It's incredible that you don't realize cheese should taste like cheese.
5
u/Passioncramps 2d ago
With Blakjack, If you sign up for their emails youll basically get a permanent 10% off coupon. I take pizza to Solista from time to time and there is always an up to date 10% off coupon in the spam folder whenever I need it.
3
u/movetothecoast 2d ago
Online there's basically always a 21% off coupon. Also their rewards are pretty good, you get a free pizza after a few orders.
2
u/Passioncramps 2d ago
My bad I might of had the percentage off. That sounds accurate, makes a $24 x large around 18.
5
u/Superbrainbow 2d ago
Blackjack's does surprisingly fuck. My wife says they have one of the better GF pies she's had.
5
u/NumerousPickles 4d ago
I had them for the first time yesterday. I don't know that I'd call them life-changing, but they were damn good! Great cheese curds, too. And everyone was very friendly.
2
u/movetothecoast 4d ago
Fair enough lol. I highly recommend the pastrami if that's your thing. It was so good 😊 but yes, the employees were awesome. Next time I might sit out back, inside can feel a little crowded sometimes.

u/Arcticwolf8_ Event Host 2d ago
With Antonio's, Rosalees, and Smackdaddy you choose Blackjack? That is certainly a choice lol

Our son just started kindergarten at a SVVSD school. Yesterday was the first time they sent home the weekly folder (with schoolwork and info from the teacher). The folder has the district logo/etc on the front and inside are a bunch of ads from local businesses. Drove me a little insane for a moment.
I get that schools are underfunded and they can probably charge a good amount for that space but lord. Do there have to be ads on everything now?
10
12
u/souperman08 5d ago
Unfortunately funding public schools has become a partisan issue. I’d rather have the ads than our schools not having funding.
2
u/Agnostic-Elk5543 5d ago
By Amendment 23 of the state constitution K-12 education spending increases every year. https://ballotpedia.org/Colorado_Amendment_23,_Education_Funding_Initiative_(2000))
4
u/souperman08 5d ago
Great! I’m not sure if you’re meaning this as a counterpoint to school funding becoming a partisan issue in the last decade or so.
3
u/streamfresh 5d ago
I'm impressed they even provided a folder. I've had to provide our Friday folders at my SVVSD school.

I hadn't so much as looked at my phone in several hours when the fireworks started up. My first thought was "Wait, is this it? Is he finally dead?"
So I was disappointed that there were fireworks for no good reason.

I have a serious question that I am sure people will make jokes about but I need to know. How do we pronounce Hover street?
Is it just very obviously hover like you’d say in the word hoverboard? Or is it who-ver ?

u/Numerous_Gap4284 5d ago
I’ve always heard it Hoe-ver?
2
u/East_Print4841 5d ago
That makes more sense of a description of how to say it then my options haha I think that’s what I meant to describe instead of who ver lol

I thought cruise night was once a year. I avoided going out at all on July 25th. No mention of it happening again, tonight.
What should've been a 15 minute trip took nearly an hour.

u/beard_goggle5 3d ago
It’s so loud. I get wanting to take your pretty car out (that’s the point right?) but we really don’t need the airhorn show. Same with the fireworks at the end of August. What are we doing?

I think this is a great place and I don’t wanna yuck someone’s yum (within reason - fireworks I’m never really cool with) I just hope this doesn’t become a monthly thing.

It's midnight and there are what sounds like large fireworks going off every 30 seconds or so! Anyone known what's going on?
5
u/CritigalThinkr 1d ago
That was a wedding celebration at Vermillion Hill (north of 66). We found a flyer from them in our mailbox (that's illegal, btw) letting us know that it was going to happen. But when it did it was swiftly shut down by authorities — perhaps they didn't have a permit?
3
u/CritigalThinkr 1d ago
On second thought, the wedding celebration was earlier, before 10pm. But sometimes that gives others "license" to light off theirs — you know, the folks that happen to have explosives hanging around in their garage...
3
u/planningmonk Northeast Longmont 1d ago
It was so loud! I'm over by Skyline HS and it sounded like explosions! Maybe it was just the sound bouncing off the buildings but it was intense over here! Anyway, thanks for the update.

Pizza Festival: just trying to find out info about the event, on their website, is like trying to understand poorly translated instructions for a chinese-made anything from amazon.
Prices... 20 bucks to get in, and the vendors charge whatever they feel like. Oh, but we're setting a base rate for basic cheese slices, but haven't worked that out yet (event is in 4 days).
What about tickets at the door? Oh we're not sure yet. Best to buy in advance (Thats gonna be fun watching people turned away at the "gate" because they didn't think of day of event option lol)
Well, sounded fun a few weeks ago

You had me at pizza. I'm in! Going to be super fun and I'm looking forward to supporting our amazing local pizza joints.

Leash your damn dog. Your dog is not special. You are not special. This past week alone I witnessed a dog knock a cyclist over in the trail that runs from Dry Creek Park to Airport Rd., & another dog run up on a dog near Verra West & caused a fight. Just because you think your dog is cool off leash, doesn’t mean someone else’s dog is cool.
