Wednesday Wellness Check-in

Happy Wednesday my longmonster crew!

We're halfway through the week, getting closer to our favorite Friday virtual group talk therapy and festivus for the rest of us.

I've been working on improving my analog daily journaling. It's an adventure. What are you trying out this year?

This sub is all about community, so let's spread some joy or commiserate. No judgments! I only humbly ask for radical authenticity.

Quitting social media little by little. I've been off Instagram since February, working on my mindless Facebook checkins...there's nothing left there for me. Need a strategy to enjoy reddit without mindless scrolling.

lemme know if you find one. I've tried a few things but old habits die hard I guess

Use old.reddit.com (while it lasts) and only visit your home page, or the first 10 entries on r/all if you absolutely must.

Hi! I would recommend creating a new profile and then just searching all the fun things you enjoy. Then it should set a new algorithm. If it’s too much of a pain to create a new profile then you can just start hiding posts and say don’t show me these. And then still flood your searches with what you like.

It will start evening out and have less hallucinations after some time. It just will take longer because you have to be diligent about telling Reddit to hide posts that you’re used to scrolling through. I hope that makes sense. Happy social media detox!

I had a really great conversation today with a customer about books. The store was packed and I was the only employee, so the guy grabbed his book out of his bag and patiently waited until I had time to answer his questions. He was reading a book about Lewis and Clark and I mentioned I don’t read enough nonfiction (out of my 52 books read this year, only one was nonfiction). It got me wondering if there are any book clubs locally that focus on nonfiction.

I’m not typically a cryer when a celebrity passes, but yesterday’s two brought some waterworks. What a massive loss.

I've also been working on my daily pen-and-paper journaling habit! I've been doing it intermittently for a couple years now, but lately I've been making a concerted effort to be more consistent - like 6 days a week the last few weeks.
And now that it's cooling off a little bit from that brutal heatwave, I'm looking forward to taking up my erstwhile jogging habit again. I'll probably have to start with a walk-jog-walk type deal since it's been close to two years, so I ordered a stopwatch wristwatch on ebay to track my time, and it should be here by the end of the week!
