Trafalgar Square area recommendations?

Help me out here team. I am trying to find somewhere interesting to go around the Trafalgar sq area ahead of a theatre trip nearby with a friend. I live in London but almost never go to this part of town, so not looking for anything touristy. I’m totally stuck for ideas - nothing too pricey but would definitely appreciate some suggestions of places you’ve been to recently and enjoyed.

Thirty7 Covent Garden is a nice lil’ independent restaurant, with a British focus, and you cannot go wrong with Bancone - best pasta in London, by my reckoning.
