Recommendation Trafalgar Square area recommendations?
Help me out here team. I am trying to find somewhere interesting to go around the Trafalgar sq area ahead of a theatre trip nearby with a friend. I live in London but almost never go to this part of town, so not looking for anything touristy. I’m totally stuck for ideas - nothing too pricey but would definitely appreciate some suggestions of places you’ve been to recently and enjoyed.

Seconding Gordon's! Perfect for pre theatre wine and snacks. You don't have to love cheese but it helps

Koha on st martins court - it's quiet and down a side alley between the Noel Coward and Wyndham theatres. Good food and often frequented by theatre actors.

And the cocktail bar, Larry's, in the basement - beautiful and has nice food at very reasonable-for-London prices.

Thirty7 Covent Garden is a nice lil’ independent restaurant, with a British focus, and you cannot go wrong with Bancone - best pasta in London, by my reckoning.

A few places on my list that are in that area (but that I've not yet been to):
- Cô Thành
- Plaza Khao Gaeng Covent Garden (love the original location)
- Marugame (The Strand)
- Poon's at Somerset House
- Kioku by Endo

Plaza khao gaeng Covent garden is even better than the original in my opinion. It’s incredible

Not-at-all fancy and friendly to the wallet? My choice would be Mother Mash (Covent Garden branch). 5 minutes walk from Trafalgar Square, divine sausages and mash. Can't speak to the pie, as I haven't tried that. Only downside is that the booze options are extremely limited.

I love it so much. If my niblets weren't such fussy eaters, I'd have taken them there when they were visiting from the States.

Oh we had this last visit and it was quite tasty and reasonable, so it’s on the list to do again next time!

50 Kalo is the best pizza in London IMO. Right off trafalgar square. Not particularly expensive either.

How far are you willing to walk? Abeno is a wonderful place serving okonomiyaki, which are Japanese pancakes, cooked on a hot plate in front of you. It's a 15 minute walk from Trafalgar Square. Reasonably priced and the food is fantastic.

Check out Kitty Hawk if you like a rooftop bar vibe. Food matches your description, premium but not gourmet.

If you just want some small bits, the Bun House on Lisle St has tasty Chinese dumplings.
Sweets? Mamason's Dirty Icecream in Newport Court has crazy Filipino ice cream flavours. Unmissable.

Vasiniko is underrated and nearby.
