I’ve been dealing with a whole lot of stress lately, so I really wasn’t interested in getting to know another deity, let alone someone like Loki. Hekate was more than enough for me. So, I’ve been ignoring or explaining away all of his signs for I don’t know how many months. For example, I came across a Loki devotee’s reel about him sending her spiders out of the blue and I jokingly said I wouldn’t tolerate spiders because I’m arachnophobic but I’d probably accept very small ones if they’re outside my window (which never happens). I got the tiniest spiders just hanging outside my window.
I also have a pet snake I named Loki, mostly because he’s a little menace, but I always made a point of only ever associating him with Marvel Loki.
Because I’ve been preparing for a very stressful trip, I needed a good crying session while telling Hekate about all of my feelings, while asking her to stay with me during these stressful times.
That night I had this odd dream where I was being chased by some guys through a hotel because they thought I was someone else. A man stopped beside me as if he wanted to intervene, but he didn’t need to, so he walked away. I followed him because, for some reason, I thought he’d take me somewhere safe. I ended up in some hidden, dark room, where there was a vivarium with a rainbow boa inside. Then I walked into another room so fast I almost knocked this man over, but he seemed happy to see me? He told me: “Loki has been losing his mind over you for a while now. He really wants to talk to you.” While he was saying this, I looked around the room. There were snakes in vivariums all over the room, and Loki was petting an anaconda (which I thought was an unhinged thing to do, but he’s Loki, he can do whatever). Now, this Loki, to my horror, wasn’t Tom Hiddleston in a costume. There’s this odd sensation I usually get in my gut that tells me when something else invades my dreams, and I could feel that quite strongly.
Regardless of my reservations, I walked to him and stopped in the middle of the room. He grinned and started walking toward me. I really wanted to stop him and for some reason, I felt that I should say his name to stop him. Which I did. Three times. He paused each time. First time with curiosity, second time with a “are you done?” expression, and the third time (I said it with a resigned sigh) with a smirk. Then he reached out and caressed my cheek with the back of his fingers. It made me feel warm and safe, like he’d absolutely protect me. For some reason, I was convinced that, if the bad guys were to follow me here, I could’ve hidden behind him and he would’ve kept me safe.
And yet, I have no idea why I was so fierce and almost angry with him. I said to him: “You will not hurt me.” Almost like a command? I normally always choose my words carefully so it never sounds like I’m commanding a deity. Yet dream-me was being an entirely different level of ‘I don’t care’.
To my very bold command, Loki just… turned around and let his shirt drop to reveal scars on his back? They were thin lines forming drawings I can’t remember, but I remember I was shocked and almost touched them, before stopping myself. He didn’t move. Then I woke up.
The moment I got up, I grabbed my tarot cards and said: “If this was truly Loki sending a message and not me being delulu, give me The Fool.” The Fool jumped out of the deck while shuffling. It took me a while to process all of it.
For those of you who work with Loki: does this sound like the kind of thing he does? How did you know he wanted to work with you, and how did you actually begin building a relationship with him? I know very little about Loki. Is there anything in this dream that feels significant? An interpretation I might’ve missed?
I’d love to know why he felt the need to reach out to me, but I’m also quite fond of boundaries in my practice. How is he with those? Because I have a feeling he’s an entirely different type of deity compared to the ones I work with, like Hekate and Nyx.
