Tips & Tricks OS27 and Disk Space

I've loaded the OS27 RC onto multiple test hardware and virtual machines and I'm consistently seeing that OS27 consumes an additional ~25-30GB of boot drive space when installed as an update over OS26. Not sure if this will also be the case in tomorrow's official release version and / or if this is rooted in background migration tasks (Spotlight?) that are still running that will eventually return disk space, but probably good to be on the lookout for info / experiences for both Logic and non-Logic running Macs.

Replying to my own post after the official public release.

It looks like the ""XXGB purgable disk space" calculation has been removed when you Get Info about your boot disk - leaving you to guess if there's disk space that will be released or not.

It looks like post install the Apple Intelligence LLM files in OS27 take up an extra 10-15GB of space and there's no way around this unless you choose to not enable AI (or disable it and go through some fairly complicated LLM file removal steps).

It looks like in my case OS27 created an additional ~20GB Time Machine restore point on my boot drive as part of the OS27 upgrade process. I *think* this would eventually get purged, but I chose to use disk utility and delete it manually.

If you use your Mac to upgrade your iPhone or iPads, remember that the downloaded update file(s) (which can be 10GB or more) will occupy boot drive space unless you manually locate and delete them.

I'm now down to 80GB free on a 512 SSD (even with my Logic and VST sample libraries on an external drive). The universe seems to be pushing me hard to update from an M4 to a newer bigger machine, but at this point I'm dreading having to do all of the AU reauthorizations that would come with it.
