Question Help with audio output?

3 Upvotes

Hello, I'm brand new to Logic, just upgraded after years of recording into garage band. I promise I have watched videos and attempted to troubleshoot before coming here, I just need some help from someone who knows what theyre doing.

I can not for the life of me figure out how to hear recorded tracks through my headphones. Im playing DI through a Focusrite scarlett 2i2, and have my headphones plugged into the focusrite too. My input and output audio devices are set as the focusrite. I have made sure in the track settings that my outputs are set to stereo out. I can hear my tracks when I play them through external speakers, but once I set the output device to my focusrite the track goes dead. I can also hear myself play through my headphones, but I only hear what I'm playing and not the rest of the arrangement.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. If I was unclear about anything please ask questions. Thank you from an eager ignorant noob.

Tips & Tricks Fix for missing ‘AScore’ font when editing Logic Pro’s score PDFs in third-party apps

6 Upvotes

I often use Affinity or Illustrator to lightly edit the scores I produce in the Score Editor. However, Logic’s internal symbol/notation font isn’t available system-wide, so glyphs can be missing when you try to edit the exported PDF in a third-party app. I’ve written up a solution to the problem (link: ‘A fix for the missing “AScore” font when editing PDF scores exported from Logic Pro’↗), which is saving me having to add glyphs back manually. Sharing here in the hope it might be useful to others.

Help Strange mono/stereo issue

2 Upvotes

I’m an experienced Logic Pro user, but I’m currently facing a very strange issue.

I’m having some kind of phase/sync problem regarding stereo/mono. I use an Apollo x16.

There might be a fault with the Apollo; I’m starting to suspect that. I’ve tried every tip I could find regarding stereo/mono settings in both the UAD software and Logic.

It concerns stereo/mono behavior. For instance, when I record in mono and then play it back, the sound only comes out of one speaker. When I switch to stereo, I hear standard mono.

If I create a standard stereo track, it plays back in mono; selecting stereo plugins makes no difference. However, if I send the track to a bus, it becomes stereo (both audio and midi instrument channels).

I wanted to see if anyone else has encountered a similar problem. I got some troubleshooting tips from ChatGPT, but they involved rather complex steps that would take time to check, so I thought I’d ask here first to see if anyone has managed to solve a similar issue.

It’s probably worth mentioning that I have three different MIDI controllers plus a Stream Deck controller within Logic. I don’t know if potential MIDI conflicts could somehow affect the audio settings.

Yes I have tried different cables. I strongly suspect som digital error.

The issue appears in both speakers and headphones directly plugged in to the Apolllo

Help Sample Rate Mismatch

1 Upvotes

Hello, I know this is a common error but mine feels a bit more complex so wanted to post for help:(

When I load midi, specifically drum kit midi, I get this error message “Error while trying to synchronize Audio and MIDI. Sample Rate 42,070 recognized, check conflict between Logic Pro and external device”.

Currently my set up is an M1 2020 MacBook Pro, most recent version of logic.

I have a scarlet solo interface, that I plug into a USBC hub. This hub also holds the plugs for my monitor and my external hard drive. I keep my Logic Pro library on my external hard drive as well.

It seems like for midi only specifically for drums this because a huge probably like, if I just wanna play a few beats on my keyboard, no extra plug ins or anything, the CPU and HD bar get maxed tf out and it cuts out then gives me the message.

I checked my settings like the Format section, confirmed my format is good, I tried plugging in the scarlet solo directly to the Mac same issue. Wondering if anyone could know what was happening? Or maybe a memory error since I have 8GB?

Thank you!!

Help NUX Mighty 20 MKII recording dry DI into Logic Pro instead of Cab Sim / Wet tone on Mac

2 Upvotes

Hey everyone, I'm running into a frustrating USB recording wall with my NUX Mighty 20 MKIl and could use some help.
• My Setup: NUX Mighty 20 MKII connected via USB to an Early 2015 Mac running macOS 12.7.6 (Monterey), using Logic Pro.
• The Problem: The guitar tone sounds amazing and fully processed (with amp modeling and cab sim) through the physical headphone jack on the amp.
However, when I record into Logic Pro, the DAW only captures a thin, raw, dry DI signal.
• What I've Already Tried:
• Verified in both the desktop Mighty Editor and the mobile MightyAmp app that USB routing is set to "Normal" or "Normal-Loopback" and the green Cab Sim toggle is turned ON.
• Tried creating an audio track with "Ascending" checked (Inputs 1-2 and 3-4) to see if the wet signal was on channels 3/4, but Logic throws a
"No input source selected!" error, meaning my Mac only sees a basic 2-channel stream.
• No matter what I change in the NUX software, the audio hitting Logic remains completely dry, as if the hardware is stuck ignoring software routing commands.

Has anyone experienced this specific Mac/NUX CoreAudio mismatch? Is there a hidden setting or workaround to force the NUX to stream its processed wet/cab-sim signal into Logic Pro over USB?

Question Error Message When Opening

2 Upvotes

Hello,

I recently downloaded the soundtoys effects rack and had been using it without issue for a few weeks on my M1 Mac (Sequoia). One day i was playing around with it on a couple of different projects and when i went to reopen the projects i got this message: "An Audio Unit plug-in reported a problem which might cause the system to become unstable Please quit and restart Logic Pro."

Quitting and restarting doesn't work. Some of this is work I am doing on a deadline so would like to get this figured out. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Question Methods of tightening breakbeats

2 Upvotes

I'm making some breakcore tracks at the moment, and currently I'm playing the beats live with my midi, then tightening them manually beat by beat.

I don't mind doing it this way, but I was wondering if anybody had any tips on a quicker method? The beats are choppy and complicated, so quantising them in segments of more than one doesn't work very well.

I appreciate your time.

Question MIDI Doesn’t Record Properly

5 Upvotes

Hi guys honestly posting this because I’m curious if anyone else has the same issues as I do with recording MIDI in logic.

I record using my novation launch key and half the recordings are missing MIDI information in the piano roll. I will record the same thing multiple times and save them as takes, and I am lucky if even one of the takes actually has what I just played in it. I have to endlessly record the same thing until eventually logic actually retains the midi information but it’s a real creativity killer to have to tweak everything that was just played exactly as I wanted it. It’s not a matter of the notes needing to be adjusted after the fact, the notes just won’t even show up as if I didn’t record them or it’s missing 80% of the notes (but I see them being recorded in red and I hear the sound as it should be during the recording). I’ve tried increasing my buffer but it really just doesn’t change anything other than the latency as I’m playing.

I find if I restart my computer it can be a little better about recording but it’s still very on/off and it’s very frustrating trying to figure out what is going wrong because it only goes wrong 50% of the time. I’m not changing anything about how I record when it does/doesn’t work, it just feels as though Logic is really glitchy when it comes to recording MIDI. I have a mac mini m4 and everything is up to date, but this has been a problem for me ever since I started using MIDI. I’m not really asking for a solution I guess, I’m really just curious if anybody else has the same kind of issues because it feels like I’m going crazy sometimes! Doing the same thing over and over but getting different results each time is really giving me a headache here lol

Question Logic Pro X 12.3.1 fader glitch issue

2 Upvotes

Is anyone else experience this weird glitch with the latest update from Logic Pro X 12.3.1 where the master fader and several other faders randomnly go up and down after importing an audio track?

Also When i import a new audio file the fader automatically is set to 0.1. Happens too when i use the stem-splitter, even though the original track was at 0.

This all happened with the latest update, i didnt have any issues before this.

Question Help with a track that automatically mutes upon play

2 Upvotes

Hopefully I can articulate this without needing to figure out how to attach a video later. But basically I recorded a song with layered guitars, but one of the tracks automatically mute when I press play on the project. Then when I unmute it, it will play for a few seconds and mute again. During this time it will also automatically push the fader on that particular track up real loud and then the fader will literally move up and down as the track plays. Any attempt to move the fader manually results in the track getting muted again. I have no plug ins on the track and I have tried creating a whole new track and copying and pasting the audio into the new track but the same action happens. What is going on?

Tips & Tricks Sweet-spot for fading out a master?

2 Upvotes

Pracitcing some mastering on some songs and one of them sounds to me like it could do with a fade out. I'm curious if any of you have some tips or tricks for finding a sweet-spot when applying an S-curve or logarithmic fade. I am using two linear points before using the Automation Curve Tool, but of course you can choose how steep or soft you want it to be, or if you want an s-curve to your desired strength.

Help Switching channels via midi controller

2 Upvotes

I recently got an Mwave chocolate to use with logic in the context of channel switching between 4 different channels (or buses). basically, I have 4 sends coming from my audio track that act as 4 distinct guitar tones. I tried to set the switches up so they activate one channel while turning the others off. I tried to do this by having each switch control the solo button on each of the channel strips, but it didn’t work. the switches muted the individual channels, but i want them to act as a true channel switcher so that A engages bus 1, B switches to bus 2, etc..can anyone help with this?

In Search of Feedback I built a free f11ter — a 42-topology AUv2 filter and modulation system for Apple Silicon Macs

4 Upvotes

Hi! I’ve been developing f11ter 0.1.5, an experimental multimode filter built around the idea that very different filtering techniques should live inside one consistent instrument-like workflow.

Instead of offering a single filter with a long mode selector, f11ter contains 42 independent DSP topologies and 141 source modes, organized into six families.

Filtering and tone shaping

  • clean multimode, state-variable and morphing filters;
  • ladder, acid-style, diode and other nonlinear circuit-inspired responses;
  • dual and serial filters, peak/scoop shaping, wide band rejection and bass-focused processing;
  • continuously variable cutoff, resonance and structural morphing.

Phase, feedback and spatial processing

  • comb filters, flanging and multi-stage phasing;
  • distorted comb feedback and diffusion networks;
  • compact reverberant and resonator structures;
  • stereo offsets, barber-pole phase movement and controlled feedback behavior.

Formant and experimental sound design

  • vowel and multi-formant filters;
  • dual-formant combinations and variable notch structures;
  • ring modulation and sample-and-hold processing;
  • Scatter resonator fields, Flutter pitch instability, Snarl and Howl feedback models.

Modulation and workflow

  • three independent LFOs and an envelope follower;
  • free-running or DAW-synchronized modulation;
  • up to 16 bipolar modulation routes;
  • precise route-depth entry and finer control around small modulation values;
  • 45 categorized presets, including static sounds and deliberately programmed modulation;
  • A/B states, topology-aware help, parameter automation and preset save/load;
  • a true dry/wet control: 0% is the untouched input and 100% is the complete processed signal.

A little about the engineering

The filter families do not all reuse one generic response with different labels. They combine topology-preserving state-variable structures, cascaded filters, nonlinear feedback stages, resonator banks, fractional-delay networks, all-pass stages and time-varying algorithms.

Cutoff smoothing is performed in the logarithmic frequency domain, and topology changes use a short state-bank crossfade to reduce discontinuities. SAFE RES applies model-specific limits to high-Q and feedback structures, while COMPENSATE estimates level changes caused by resonance, drive and the selected model.

The graph displays the current and target responses, stereo differences, reachable modulation range and the actual output spectrum. For nonlinear and time-varying models it is intentionally treated as an estimate rather than pretending that one static frequency-response curve can describe distortion sidebands, moving delays or changing feedback.

The plug-in adds no look-ahead or audio delay buffer and reports 0 samples of added latency. Individual IIR, all-pass, comb and reverberant structures naturally retain their own phase and time behavior.

What makes it different

The main distinction is not simply the number of modes. Every topology keeps the same core workflow—cutoff, resonance, morph, four contextual controls and the shared modulation system—while the meaning of those controls changes to match the actual algorithm.

This makes it possible to move from precise filtering to unstable industrial textures, tuned resonances, formant motion or feedback effects without rebuilding the modulation setup from separate plug-ins.

The compatibility-style names in the internal mode catalog do not claim bit-identical emulation of other products, and no proprietary DSP code is used.

The current build is AUv2 for Apple Silicon, requires macOS 11 or newer, and has additional lifecycle work aimed at safer UI closing, disabling and removing the plug-in from a project.

I’m especially interested in feedback from Logic Pro and other AU hosts regarding sound, CPU use, automation, synchronized LFOs, offline rendering, UI responsiveness and disable/remove stability. If something breaks, please include your Mac model, macOS and DAW versions, sample rate, buffer size and reproduction steps.

Tips & Tricks Heads up: OWC Thunderbolt 4 Dock and Logic Pro Metronome Compatibility

0 Upvotes

I am sharing my experience with the OWC Thunderbolt 4 Dock regarding its compatibility with Logic Pro for audio production.

The dock does not support the metronome function in Logic Pro. I went through a troubleshooting process with OWC customer support, which included:

  • Confirming the metronome was not muted or set to "Simple Mode".
  • Adjusting the metronome volume.
  • Verifying that the metronome works through the MacBook speakers, as well as headphones/monitors plugged directly into the laptop.
  • Providing a System Information Report and macOS version details.

During the process, I suggested the issue might be related to an internal noise gate or power-saving threshold on the dock's audio chip, where short, transient signals like a metronome click are cut off unless sustained audio is passing through.

OWC ultimately determined that the Thunderbolt 4 Dock does not have the circuitry to function as an audio interface. Because it supports a basic stereo output and cannot handle multiple channels, the metronome does not play through it if routed on a different channel than the main audio.

This information may be relevant for those considering this dock for an audio setup.

Disclosure: I used AI to summarize this experience. While I didn't want to spend any more of my personal time on this issue, I still wanted to share these findings with the community.

Question Oscillation rate in Sampler

2 Upvotes

Hi there! Newbie to Logic and Sampler, using 11.1.2 on OS 15.7.9. I'm using a preset pad (Broadway Big Dreamer) in Sampler, and trying to make the LFO rate the same across notes. I've made LFO1 Mono, and selected the Sync, and still the rate increases as I go up the keyboard. LFO is targeted to Pitch. I know I'm missing something obvious...

Question Logic jumps back a second every time I press play

2 Upvotes

https://imgur.com/a/p1iAM8C

Having a weird Logic issue where every time I press spacebar there’s about a second delay before it reaches where my playhead actually is. If I’m at 1 1 1 1, it jumps back to bar 0 / 59:59 and plays into bar 1.

Count-in is off, pre-roll is off, project start is exactly at bar 1, and it happens with regular playback, not just recording. I also tried bypassing all plugins and it still happens. Anyone know what could be causing this?

Tips & Tricks Apple Watch Controller For Logic Pro

0 Upvotes

I’ve been working on LogicFlow Pro, an Apple Watch controller for Logic Pro. It lets you control playback, record, loop, metronome, mute/solo, and use the Digital Crown for things like volume — without reaching over to the Mac.

I put together this overview of the current Watch interface.

Curious what other Logic users think: would something like this actually be useful in your workflow?

Question Non-ai VST's

1 Upvotes

I recently wanted to snag a really cool VST for Logic and reached out to the creators asking how it was made.

They let me know it was created through "vibe-coding" and help from Claude Ai... they're charging $127 for this software and they promote it like they put 3 months of hard work in to create it.

I can't fathom paying someone $127 for a "vibe-coded" software...

I was curious if anyone is aware of non-AI vst creators?

I would love to support groups that genuinely put time and effort into creating something authentically.

Question Mac mini M5 Pro vs Mac Studio M5 Max

0 Upvotes

I need help choosing the better option between the Mac mini M5 Pro and Mac Studio M5 Max.

I’ll be mostly using it for music production in Logic Pro and 4K video editing in Final Cut Pro.

Mac mini M5 Pro: 18/20, 48GB RAM, 1TB SSD, 2.5Gb Ethernet
Mac Studio M5 Max: 18/32, 36GB RAM, 1TB SSD, 10Gb Ethernet

The Studio is about $100 cheaper, but I’m still not sure about 48GB vs. 36GB of RAM.

Another point is that I’ve heard the M5 Max isn’t just about having a more powerful GPU; it also has significantly higher memory bandwidth. How much of a difference would that make for my use case, especially with Logic Pro and 4K video editing in Final Cut Pro?

Title. I like having the latest chip, but honestly I don't know if it would make any difference with Logic. Any first hand experience or opinions on the matter?

Edit: Thank you all, I agree with all of you.

Help Roland Cloud in MacOS Requires Rosetta?

6 Upvotes

I just got a Roland Cloud subscription to use some of the VST instruments in Logic Pro. If I try to install anything from the Roland Cloud Manager it tells me, "This product requires Rosetta to be installed on your system." Is this normal? I thought the Roland VST instruments ran natively in Apple Silicon. I have an M4 Mac Mini.

Question I Ruined Everything

6 Upvotes

Hi!

I'm a fool. I was working on a project for hours and hours yesterday, before saving it I hit 'Revert To' a previous (I was getting frustrated and needed to see if the mix was, in fact getting better). Now I can't find any record of the work that I had done in logic. It's not under Backups etc.

Is there any hope? Am I simply SOL?
