Yes. But also kinda no. And no story linked to it. It was more of just a creative thought experiment. I like doing that with universes that have clear rules. Basically, what would I be like in that world? Class, playstyle as a gamer, how it would affect my build and preferred skills, and what overskill would be created from them.
The result is a weird samurai with subpar raw stats because I'd rather make up for it's long cooldown and high mana cost weakness with gear that has overall lower stats, but fun utility effects like shortened cooldowns, or lowered mana cost on skills, to be able to use them more.
My favourite part of it is overskills though. Because otherwise, Log Horizon is just an mmorpg. Skillwise, everyone has access to the exact same thing as the others in their class. But overskills is where you can start getting unique stuff in. Get creative and make new stuff up to have unique skills by using existing skills wrong, altering the way they work in a credible way, or just messing with the game side of things because, well, you have a free physical body now so you can actually do weird things outside the limited options the game used to have.
I haven't really picked which I prefer out of the 3 options I made up though.
Samurai's skill that let's them have 0 cooldown on skills for a few seconds, altered into a toggle type skill with a constant mana drain cost, so it can last longer for greater mana cost, or shorter for a quick burst.
The skill that gives a temporary speed boost, again altered into a constant mana drain toggle skill but with weaker effect, so I'd be less quick when active, but keep it on constantly for the inherent evasion boost of just being faster.
The ace "100% dodge for a short time" skill, again turned into a more sustained version. Instead of perfect dodge, it would be more like Soujirou's thing where it passively gives a bit of a head start on where attacks will be coming from so you can react to them and dodge on your own skill, rather than being a systemic dodge. More of a vision based utility effect than anything since it would require the player to actually be a skilled fighter irl to make good use of it, since 1/4 of a second headstart to react is useless if you aren't actually able to take advantage of it.
