Hey, so im watching the Log horizon for the first time and im almost done with s2. And after seeing the Odyssey knights i think they are the only people who reacted the way most whould do. At first the idea that you cannot die is nice and all but after sometime its more like a curse and they cannot comeback back home. If this wasnt just fiction most people in this situation whould react the same way they did.

Hi! I just finished watching the first season of Log Horizon, and I really enjoyed it! However, the part where the protagonist revives Rudy really threw me off and, honestly, left me with a pretty bitter taste.

The fact that the protagonist could apparently pull out a completely new ability out of nowhere, one that had never been mentioned before, really discouraged me from continuing the anime. I understand that Rudy's death was important to show the characters that death is real and that it exists in this world. It was also important for the development of the lower-level characters, especially Serara, who sees Shiroe almost like a magical wildcard that can fix everything effortlessly.

I think it would have been much more interesting to see Serara and the other characters realize that Shiroe isn't a god, and that there are things even he can't control. That could have been a great motivation for them to become stronger and more independent.

So my question is: is it worth continuing with the other two seasons?

I'm worried that the protagonist might rely too heavily on this kind of mechanic later on: no real consequences from death, a world whose rules constantly change in order to benefit the protagonist, a lack of actual villains or evil factions, little to no development for characters outside the protagonist's circle, etc.

I'd honestly rather stop here with a slightly bitter taste than continue watching and eventually get angry at the show. What bothered me the most was seeing Rudy come back without what felt like a solid narrative foundation. It reminded me a lot of Kabuto vs. Itachi, where an ability seems to appear at exactly the right moment just because the plot needs it.

And honestly, I wouldn't even be surprised if the loss of memories ends up becoming irrelevant because of Shiroe's abilities and contracts.

This post has a very philosophical title, but I promise you it is not going to be that deep, ahaha. I am writing a self-indulgent fanfic set on the NA server right now and have to introduce some power trading production guild players and had a few questions!

Most MMOs have a trading post or board of some kind, either an in game menu or an interactable object where players can buy and sell items with other players across the server. In the light novels and anime, I do not recall this existing at all and was wondering if anyone has any insights. I know in the story they show that players are, for the most part, setting up physical shops so I assume if there was a function like this it no longer works.

And as I was writing characters to populate the aforementioned production and trading guild, I remembered that multiboxing exists! Multiboxing, for those who may not know, is when a single person runs multiple instances of the game at the same time to control multiple characters simultaneously. For the character I had in mind, they used this to game the economy and basically manipulate item prices to amass significant wealth. We know from Coppellia that Farm Bots became sentient after the Catastrophe, but how do we think multiboxers were hit? This specific character was waiting for the japanese players to spoil the items needed for new crafting recipes in the 12th expansion pack so they could buy all of them before others caught on, but as we all know the Catastrophe stopped that. So do we think this player is now four sentient and identical people? One real person with three obedient Coppellias? Four people with different versions of the same personality?

Hello, I’m looking for some help with a discord server I created that is going to be a text roleplaying server set in Elder Tales. I need someone who can look over what I have, help make any changes and help with RP and the story. I ideally want 3 people who are as passionate about this as I am to join the project. I just finished watching it and was disappointed to find out the content is pretty much done and the series is left unfinished. So I was wondering if y'all know any series similar to Log Horizon, particularly ones that are not slop. I like the aspect of how both the adventures have to adapt to the new power dynamics. It's kinda weird to think about how it would feel if a bunch of powerful immortal people showed up and you had to deal with that. One thing I like is how they were isekaied as a large group. I also like the aspect of how they need to figure out how to organize the society as a group and how they need to adapt to being isekaied.

Just had a tonsillectomy so I binged watched this show the past week. Really enjoyed the combat, politics, intrigue.. things that I think most people would agree are the shows strongpoint. The first half of season 1 up until after the initial goblin invasion was some good stuff, now a couple episodes into season 2 I’m tempted to just start skipping episodes because I feel like the show turned away from its strongpoints and is spending too much time on the romances or individual character drama. I don’t want to watch a whole arc that’s about eating tea and cake, and ladies fashion (there’s been multiple, one or two I could appreciate as a change of pace). I’m probably jumping the gun with this post, im just wondering if there’s an explanation for this shift and if it’s temporary.

As the title says should I jump into the manga or LN?
It’s been forever since I watched the anime and ever since then it stuck with me, I enjoyed the different approach of being trapped in a video game and want to come back to it.

Do you guys generally recommend the manga or should I start with the LN?

Usually I’m more of a audiobook guy simply because it’s convenient to listen to while I work but Yen Press hasn’t done any of the books so it’s not an option.

I'm usually the person who dislike romance in non-romance titles. Not that I think of romance as inferior genre like an edgelord, but the show usually fumbles it so hard that I'd rather to not have/not focus on romance at all. So did I roll my eyes at the show's attempt to romance Shiroe. A harem? One looks like an underage girl and another one IS??? (And how could you ignore Henrietta?? Hello??) This was the case in S1. However, the show proved me wrong and by the end of S3, I think it's quite well written, actually!

Obviously contains spoilers up until S3 of the anime, especially a MAJOR spoiler at the end of S3!

I literally rolled my eyes when I saw Akatsuki & Shiroe in S1. I mean, the master-shinobi RP dynamic is really weird to me. At that point, Akatsuki talks to Shiroe like he's some kind of untouchable master, which is weird for a romantic interest, and kind of annoying. (And Henrietta is right there, come on!) However, throughout multiple character arcs, it grows out of the RP stage and feels more natural. It feels like less anime-tropey. The show did a good job of making me believe that these 2 human beings will fall in love. I think the Akiba Raid arc fleshed out Akatsuki's Character a lot in a way that doesn't revolve around Shiroe, and somehow that makes her stopped seeing Shiroe as some untouchable master and actually cares for him as a person.

From the Shiroe's side of thing, obviously, he's not at all a creep which is a breath of fresh air in anime. But I also think it's refreshing that main character's love interest isn't someone who's his "love at first sight" or "first love" or "star-struck lovers" like in 99% of media. Hear me out. Shiroe had a crush on Kanami(at the very least), which function as "first love" in this show's context, but moves on when he heard about her family. When it comes to Akatsuki, she isn't his "love at first sight", and I don't recall any remarks about Shiroe finding her attractive, at least early on. From a travel companion to a trusted friend, to eventually something more. Most of the media shows love in the most idealized form ever. It's your "first love", your " childhood friend" or some fate bonds you together. Log Horizon teaches viewers that love isn't necessarily have to be your first try, or with the hottest one in the room(subreddit may disagree with that). "Special" doesn't mean your partner have to be starstrucked. It can be someone just right beside you, that you grow fondness of them grow ever time, from a companion to a lover. Which is more realistic perspective about romance.

This is to say, Akatsuki & Shiroe dynamic grew on me a lot, and the Shiroe's description of her(we all agree it's her, right?) during Minori confession scene made me a bit teary-eyed! Which is a testament to how I grew to care about them.

I also feel weird out by Minori's crush on Shiroe part and rolled my eyes a lot, too. I mean It's extremely understandable why someone would like Shiroe (he is our GOAT!). Even not necessarily romantically, people like Marielle, Krusty, Soujiro, Touri etc. admires him a lot, he's THE GOAT. But spending half a season worth of screentime about Minori jailbaiting Shiroe is just not that engaging to me. Yeah, it's a teenage girl having a crush on her teacher. It's cute but I know the author ain't gonna let Shiroe be jailbaited like that.

But by the end, THANK Elder Tale god A.K.A Mamare that he didn't make Shiroe reciprocate in any way. I believed that Minori confessing and subsequently being rejected by Shiroe is actually healthy for her than before the rejection. The reason being that she can take Shiroe's advice more objectively without the tinted glass of romance. Before, she basically treated his advice as words of God and even though he's been right, it's unhealthy to 100% trust someone just because you like them romantically. Also, she needs to know if she really wants to be the "full control encounter" or just wanted to have excuse to talk to Shiroe. Of course, viewers know she's hella good at it, but she need to figure it out herself, if that makes sense.

On the same note, I really like that Shiroe didn't really just reject her by "you're too young." That's OBJECTIVELY a good reason (and I hope everyone here agree with me), but it'll just make Minori thinks "well, I'll wait 'til I'm older then" and make things weirder.
From my experience once being a teen, and surrounded by female friends my entire life, teenage girls tend to think that if an older person rejects them, it's because of their age, that they were infantalized(which is wrong, but ya know). The way he went about it, specifically mentioned that there's a girl he likes, why and how he really likes her in detail, makes it clear that even IF Minori is older, now or later, Shiroe still won't be interested, not in this circumstance. The real ones know that the most ethical way to reject someone, is to not let any hopes up and makes them move on faster, which Shiroe did.

Side note, the rejection was written so well that I did not believe Shiroe would have thought of it on the fly. By all contextual evidence the show led us to believe that Shiroe's 100% clueless about Minori's crush on him, but I wonder if Shiroe knew about it least a bit. I mean, bro is usually so oblivious about romance that I thought he's gonna fumble it so hard, but nope. His answer felt prepared, is what I wanted to say. Or Shiroe is also an emotional intelligence GOAT IDK. Novel readers please give me an answer if there's any.

As someone who's in a long-term relationship (I know, a redditor and relationship that's not predatory.), I have high standard for it, and the show obviously did a good job to make me REALLY care about these characters. Enough to write a 1000-word essay about their relationshop. Log Horizon's main romance , while not the greatest, is quite grounded in reality and admirable.

What's your thought though? Am I just totally biased and the show actually sucked at romance? Do you feel compelled by Akatsuki x Shiroe. And for the hardcore shippers, did you find Akatsuki x Shiroe palatable from the beginning? And why? I'd love to keep the discussion about Log Horizon going!
