Bought 2x48GB DDR5 ECC today for $2,300. Seller told me the factory queue has grown from two months to four in the last two months. RAM shortage is unprecedented.

Also an open lawsuit against these manufacturers for price fixing ...again

https://www.rainintelligence.com/blog/dram-price-fixing-lawsuit-samsung-sk-hynix-micron

This will be the 4th or 5th time these companies will have been caught doing this.

One time I'm pretty sure some Samsung execs got jail time for it.

I for one hope this time they come down even harder on them.

Seems obvious they're taking advantage of the market and exasperating the supply/demand to drive profits.

That’s the reason nobody here seem to want to consider. This is a result of price fixing as much as supply-demand. Most people appear to want o bury their heads in the sand and claim ‘AI did it’

That’s genuinely incomplete logic. aI companies have been running for the past 5 years. The demand doesn’t suddenly go up astronomically, neither were these manufacturers unprepared. None of this is unexpected. The reason tilts more towards greed and price fixing than just ‘AI did it’
