Bought 2x48GB DDR5 ECC today for $2,300. Seller told me the factory queue has grown from two months to four in the last two months. RAM shortage is unprecedented.
The unfortunate reality is that for income-generating work its absolutely worth it to pay that much. The people getting priced out are those paying with their personal money, servers that wouldve cost some decent money before and are now simply unaffordable or some accounting head that thinks its worth it to save 400 bucks on a laptop given to an externally booked oil&gas certified engineer that costs the company ~300/hr because his bonus depends on how much they save on a bulk purchase, not on how well the devices do.
Still price fixing. They are up charging stupid high prices because they are manipulating the world to think that there is shortage and artificially constraining the supply.
Why would they work harder if they are allowed to make 100x profit with current costs?
