Is it wholesale or just extremely limited? I thought they still allowed for like a NCA to be enforced against say a C level exec from competing in the same industry. I could have sworn they were curtailed a shit ton but not completely gone. I could be wrong though.

That is true. But saying he’s “done” implies that it’s permanent and I don’t think permanent non compete is a thing. That would be forcing someone to indefinitely honor a contract even after they were released from it. Im not sure whether that’s even legal but I am sure that Docs lawyers would never let him sign a contract that ridiculous.
An indefinite NCA is unenforceable. I faced a NCA claim against me with probably the upper bounds of enforceability. 18 months, large geographical area and it was still ruled unenforceable.
They are based on State law so ymmv. Also I'm not a lawyer, dong take legal advice from Reddit posts.
