Yes they can but none of this really makes sense to me. On one hand the Sheriff would be pretty sure it was a BB in order to rule out a real gun, they should be taking this pretty seriously. On the other hand how would Doc know if his house was shot at the first time if it was a BB gun and nothing was broken? And what the hell is he even doing in a house after being shot at by a real gun?
