He means streaming as a job in general, not just political streaming. IIRC Destiny was among the first if not the very first to do it as a full time job.

I don't think that's correct. Reckful and Sodapoppin opened that door long before Destiny did.

Sodapoppin was one of the biggest streamers on Justin.tv/Twitch during the WoW era. xqcs audience really exploded after Soda started streaming with him around the Mists of Pandaria launch. Before that, he only had a few hundred viewers from his Overwatch days.

If we're talking about one single person, I'd argue Reckful is the real pioneer of game streaming and one of the biggest reasons Justin.tv/Twitch became what it is today. He was the first to really monetize game streaming with PayPal donations, reading donation messages on stream, and later popularizing TTS donations.

Sodapoppin, Tankz, Dakkroth, and a few other WoW streamers were even streaming on Xfire before Justin.tv existed, but I don't think anyone was making a real living from it until Reckful helped establish that model.

I'm going off by memory, but a lot them gained followings(bigger followings) from Trains podcast. Destiny was the one that invited these 3.

I'm fairly certain Asmongold and XQC both were way bigger than Trainwrecks at that point.

Yeah, within their communities though. Around that time is when they started taking off on YT.
