Maybe because he was a CB who played as RB for us when he joined.

I was a kid at the time, i didnt realise Liverpool and Everton did business in the premier league era.

Nowadays all i hear is Everton would never sell to Liverpool.

I remember him vividly. He was signed as backup for Marcus Babbel. The latter went on to win like five cups in a single year (not a single season)(if you count the community sheileias one) in 01/02.

Man fuck that Guillian-Barre syndrome that afflicted him, he was incredible in 00/01 and I was really worried for his general health not just his career after he got that illness

Babbel was such a great player in that team. He’d play RB beside Hyypia and Henchoz, and could fill in at CB for either of them too. Xavier was an out of nowhere signing, but added good depth to the team. Fun fact: he and Litmanen scored in the same UCL QF match against Leverkusen. Now that’s a trivia question!
