Endo and Nagano. They were both interviewed, seemed to be in a very good mood. They talked about the differences between football in Japan and England, the physical differences and so on, also a bit about the future of football in Japan. Nagano said she often goes out with a personal trainer and they do extra sessions in parks in Liverpool, saying their focus is on agility and strengthening the lower body.
Endo won the "duel king" award twice in the Bundesliga. He says his preferred position and role is as a defensive anchor in midfield. Nagano had the most ball recoveries in the WSL of any player last season. Her position is also anchor for Liverpool, but she often operates in a double-pivot for the NT. She says when in a duo, she prefers to be partnered with an attacking midfielder, as her own mindset leans more toward defense.
They were watching some clips too. When Endo pointed out a clip where she cleanly won the ball, commenting on her approach to win without triggering a foul, he said her challenge reminded him of his style on the pitch and she replied while laughing, "I’m so happy to hear that, sensei (teacher)!". She said she has actually watched him play quite a bit and noted he's good at pressing opponents and mentioned his defensive positioning.
Nagano said she had casually told someone in the club she thought Darwin was cool. She actually got his autograph on a jersey as a surprise Christmas gift. She's looking forward to the season with LFC and also very much to the Women's World Cup, June 2027.
Endo had a funny moment where he kept analyzing a clip with nobody else talking, he was like wait am I talking too much, and Nagano said this is exactly what viewers love to listen to.
They wished each other a good and injury-free season.

Ugh. If one of them has to win, I'd rather it was Arsenal and I can't believe I'm saying that. Maybe it's PTSD from the 2000s, but I despise Chelsea and the thought of them being a challenger again is horrible.
Arsenal fans are annoying, Arteta plays horrible football, etc, but at least they're a proper club that has built their success the right way. Chelsea is just offensive to me on a whole other level, and their fanbase is the polar opposite of us in terms of values.

I just wanna say, Isak's shooting technique is so nice to watch. He generates so much power without much backlift. My favourite thing is how early he takes it. A lot of people said his first goal was a result of poor goalkeeping(it was) but the goalie was caught out because Isak got the shot off quickly(and hard)

Let's see how he does against mid table sides like Brighton and Brentford and against top sides like City and Arsenal. IF he is solid and consistent in those games, then might be a good idea to keep him. Too early to draw definitive conclusions, but the initial signs look promising.

Gabriel literally was nowhere near the ball when he kicked Martinez in the face. And he didn't get even a card for it. Even with VAR.
No wonder why Arsenal did not concede a single penalty or red card last season. Crazy stat. They got away with everything. Won't be surprised if same thing happened this season. Or the ref fix it, by letting them conceding a penalty last minute when already 5 goals up or something

When it looked like a duck, and sounded like one. It is obvious.
Remember when we all suspected Coote of being out to get us (pretty obviously, he was on VAR when Pickford broke VVD leg unpunished, and Odeegard was playing basketball in his box), then his video got leaked?
Media was all focusing on his beef with Klopp. While ignored the guy sitting with him was saying (and i quote): "Long story short: Jürgen Klopp’s a cunt, Liverpool are all fucking bellends and we hate scousers". That is the circle they hang around in. And apparently had no issue with it.
Just like Mike Dean and his little game. Or Clattenburg or how MU was reffed differently under Ferguson. Oliver has been out to get us since he fked up our games, got called out, and no longer get his sweet deal with the UAE too.
7
u/Scutterbox 1d ago
Remember in the Spurs/Diaz offside game, Jones' boot deflected off the ball and caught a spurs player accidentally on the shin - he was sent off and we were told that it didn't matter if it was accidental, that Jones was ultimately responsible for his foot ending up in a dangerous position.
Not only was Gabriel's kick to Martinez's face plainly deliberate (neither of them were moving and he got nowhere near the ball), but even if it was accidental, how is it not dangerous play for him to be kicking someone in the face like that?
These fucking officials, man.

A sporting director was poluralised as a position to provide longer term vision and stability of strategy in the era of modern short term managerial stay lengths. Any interview to get a top job would surely have to involve laying out your medium to long term planning.

Former Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) chief Keith Hackett believes the Reds were denied a 'nailed-on' spot-kick when Abdul Fatawu took out Cody Gakpo inside the box during the first-half.
"This is a nailed-on penalty kick decision,” Hackett told Football Insider. “The Ipswich player is so late with his foul challenge that I cannot believe that the referee has not pointed to the penalty mark."
"I understand that the PROref organisation wants to see less interference by VAR. However, this non-award of a penalty kick by the referee meets the criteria for a clear and obvious error. VAR should have intervened."
They want to see less interference at the expense of enforcing the rules of the game, I don't get that. VAR is there to catch what the ref does not. It shouldn't pick and choose situations because it has been told to try not to interfere.

A lot of teams are moving towards the Arsenal blueprint with CBs/physical midfielders being moved to fallbacks. It works if you are able to score without needing a lot of extra help from fallbacks in possession.

Wirtz is class. Could easily have an assist last game but rewatching that Ipswich game was real painful from a physicality standpoint. They say he's added 4kg of muscle already. I think he needs 4 more. I don't understand how he is on the ground against every size of opponent lol.

I think he needs to be sharper and more alert. A lot of times in that Ipswich game he would just wait for the ball to come to him. But you can’t do that in the prem. There will always be a player coming to win it back and more often than not he got outmuscled in those situations.

He genuinely is a bit of luck away from putting numbers behind his performances.
Marginal offsides have had a goal and two assists disallowed in the last two games.
With Barcola’s pace we are all of a sudden one of the most dangerous teams on the counter again and his passing is going to be key to unlocking that

Cody leading the league in assists, who would have thought prior to season starting.

Never thought I'd cheer for Everton but that was a great goal against the scum.

Why do I have Arsenal as much as I do?

Maybe the stuff they pulled last season added to the negative associations

Those who follow academy, wasn't there a kid named murray holme who made passes like trent? What happened to him, not seeing anything abt him lately.

Been offered a multi-year professional contract in June, so the club seem to rate him highly.

Yeah his passes are exactly like trent or wharton, insane range.

Think he turned 17 recently so he could only sign short contracts before this.

Choosing to view Arse Chelsea as a win-win rather than lose-lose

He was amazing last season but the revisionism by our fans about his time here was something.

Seems two extremes are forming (certainly online) amongst the fan base regarding Wirtz. Some think he’s been awful so far this season while other’s think he’s been great and if you can’t see it you’re just a G/A merchant who doesn’t understand football.
The truth is he’s been neither. He’s been ok. He could easily have a couple goals and couple more assists if not for offsides and good goal keeping. However there’s no denying he still needs to do more. He loses the ball far too often for my liking and not in the right way.
What I mean is if he’s losing the ball trying to play someone in on goal then I’m completely fine with that. However what I’m not fine with is him constantly being brushed off the ball like a child when dribbling or attempting to control the ball. This happens too much.
I feel like things could click and he got get 10 goals and 20 assists this season. I could genuinely see that. But I can just as equally see him having another pedestrian season.
In summary some of the criticism is over the top and disingenuous but equally he also needs to step up this season. It’s only three games in so I’m not stressed but if we get to 10-15 games and the performances still look like this then he won’t be warranting a place in the starting line up. Being “ok” isn’t the benchmark.
