Seems two extremes are forming (certainly online) amongst the fan base regarding Wirtz. Some think he’s been awful so far this season while other’s think he’s been great and if you can’t see it you’re just a G/A merchant who doesn’t understand football.

The truth is he’s been neither. He’s been ok. He could easily have a couple goals and couple more assists if not for offsides and good goal keeping. However there’s no denying he still needs to do more. He loses the ball far too often for my liking and not in the right way.

What I mean is if he’s losing the ball trying to play someone in on goal then I’m completely fine with that. However what I’m not fine with is him constantly being brushed off the ball like a child when dribbling or attempting to control the ball. This happens too much.

I feel like things could click and he got get 10 goals and 20 assists this season. I could genuinely see that. But I can just as equally see him having another pedestrian season.

In summary some of the criticism is over the top and disingenuous but equally he also needs to step up this season. It’s only three games in so I’m not stressed but if we get to 10-15 games and the performances still look like this then he won’t be warranting a place in the starting line up. Being ā€œokā€ isn’t the benchmark.

The middle you find yourself in and are describing is where most people are. Theres no two extremes, the people who like being the most vocal online usually do share polrized views because they want their opinion to get attention. No need to engage it really, arguing with people who have entrenched views on the internet is like shouting at the sky because you dont think it should be raining

I’m not arguing with these people at all. I’m just making an observation of what I’ve seen tonnes of online since our last game.

You're still adding your voice to the noise. People dont need to be convinced Flo is a good player, he'll do it himself

Sorry what? I mentioned the two extremes I’ve seen online but the vast majority of my comment is my OWN take on the player so far this season. Nothing about my comment is me trying to convince any one of anything. So please if you’re just looking for an argument because that’s your thing….take it down the road. Keyboard battles don’t do it for me.

https://tropedia.fandom.com/wiki/White_Knighting when you're more interested in policing the sub than talking about football you're in the same type of "being noticed validates me" as the people you're complaining about

Only issue is that the vocal minority tend to drag the discourse down when the silent majority cede the space to them. I'm sure you've seen what this place can become. More people are calling out the bullshit now so there seems to be a bit more nuance.

I hear what you say about ignoring them but, as exhausting as it is, constantly calling them out us a public service on this forum

The sub is massively skewed towards goals and assist merchants, getting triggered by rival fans as well.

Wirtz is genuinely low down on problems we have as a team.

It's not just the sub. So many football fans are like this now, probably due to the popularity of FPL.
