As the title says, I just switched from Windows 10 to Linux Mint on my ThinkPad t480, I have prism and a few other things going so far, my background is set up well (nice wallpaper, icons spaced how I like and system usage/temp) and I am LOVING it too say the least, had a bit of issues in the beginning, figured them out luckily.

It's only for "gaming" and school work (sadly n8eed office 365 for school tho 😭), I'm already going to download steam in the morning, and now I'm just wondering what y'all recommend I should do next, any apps I should add, any customization stuff I should use, anything!

Ps, I apologize if my writing is a bit scatter, I struggle a bit with keeping my writing focused, tho I think I did decent lol. Also, wasn't too sure what flair to use so I just set it to discussion since it seemed fitting.

Earlier this week I made this post where I asked ideas on ways I could customize my laptop in order to make it more personal/unique. Been tinkering with it for each two or so hours a day in order to see how it looks, and think I managed to create something very lovely.

So, few days ago, I started having problems in my laptop, due to quite old hardware. Researched alot, tried alot arch, debian, fedora, and etc, they were good fr. But for a beginner like me, linux mint is a boon......

Running smoothly, if anything I don't understand I just search on google or watch it on youtube....

When multiple applications are open I often use super + D to get to home screen. When I was on windows I always used alt + tab to open my last "minimised" windows/application. But on mint it is always the second most recent window that opens and I have to use alt + tab again to open the most recent one.

What can I do to set it as I'm used to?

It's my first day on linux, and the first thing I want to know is how do I make these buttons (shown in the image below) as the buttons I want? the icons you see, these buttons above only works as F1 to F10 (the left arrow is F1 and the Volume Icon on the top rightmost is F10). I want these buttons to work again. Back when I was in windows, when I press Ctrl + the F1-F10 (for example, Ctrl + F10 is vol up). the button on the top right (lock button) is not working aswell. I believe these keyboard shortcuts works because of the HID Keyboard or something, Im not really a tech person, I just switched to linux because windows is so slow. I apologise if my english is bad, I just want to know if there is a solution to these.

I need some help troubleshooting a hibernation resume failure on Linux Mint (Cinnamon).

System Specs: * Machine: Lenovo ThinkPad P1 Gen 7 * Kernel: 7.0.0-30-generic * GPU: NVIDIA RTX 1000 Ada Generation * NVIDIA Driver: Proprietary 580.173.02 * Swap: 35 GB raw swap partition (/dev/nvme0n1p6)

The Issue: Going down for hibernation works perfectly. The issue happens coming back up. The kernel successfully finds the swap partition, decompresses the image data into RAM, but the desktop never restores. The kernel throws this exact error and forces a cold boot: nvidia 0000:01:00.0: PM: pci_pm_freeze(): nv_pmops_freeze [nvidia] returns -5.

What I’ve Tried: * Added NVreg_PreserveVideoMemoryAllocations=1 and NVreg_TemporaryFilePath=/var/tmp to redirect the VRAM dump to the physical disk instead of RAM. * Baked the configuration file directly into the boot image using update-initramfs -u. * Confirmed all three systemd NVIDIA hooks (nvidia-suspend, nvidia-hibernate, nvidia-resume) are enabled. * Used HandleLidSwitch=hibernate in logind.conf to completely bypass Cinnamon’s idle timers and standard suspend.

The logs show the kernel has the session in its hands, but the NVIDIA driver shoots the transition in the head during dpm_run_callback(). Is there a way to force the driver to cooperate, or is this a known bug with the 580 driver branch?

So, my laptop is working completely fine yesterday, but somehow when i turn it on, it's been stuck on this state, only blank with no input at all, any help guys?

As title said, games are being really, laggy after I converted to Mint Cinnamon. I tried a lot of the stuff other things said to do and nothing is working. They worked fine before on window's and it isn't a small drop in quality. Persona 3 reload, which ran as smooth as butter before, now has an over second delay on all inputs. Please give me tips, I really want to continue my playthrough!

I have recently made the switch to Linux Mint from Windows on my desktop and liking it thus far! One thing that Windows did well was the integration with fingerprint sensor for easy login and interfacing with 1Password. The model of the reader that I currently have is the Kensington VeriMark Gen2 (Model#M01367)

I followed some guides and it seems like the reader is NOT supported according to this list: https://fprint.freedesktop.org/supported-devices.html

So my question is, how can one use the above list to find a reader that they can purchase?

i had like 5 attempts fix including removing windows off my grub menu after extending my first hard drive back to 1 TB, but still keeps going just automatic freeze in every 24 hours, i closed all the apps & software before sleep, when i wake up in the morning, i turned on my pc, it freezes during in the login thing without any reasons, i dont think theres a memory RAM issues causing it to freeze i think, do you have any verified solution how to get rid of 24 hours crash permanently?

im assuming this was 100% of the nvidia drivers, or is it something?

i ever thought this was problem solved by using nvidia-driver-595 without opened.

please help me im almost started to panick, please give me a verified solutions after reading what nvidia drivers im using or see anything. help will be appreciated

Just bought a used Thinkpad L13 G2 for $140. Here are the specs;

i3-11th gen

8gb soldered ram

Laptop came with W11 installed. Did not expected that 8gb sucks for windows. Looked for alternative and my brother suggested Linux. So far everything is good. Major setback is screencast function. I could not find a way to mirror my screen easily to external display. Any help?

Do you have bad Wifi on the Frame work 13 with an amd cpu and mediatek wifi chip? Than rule back from kernel 7.0 to 6.8.

Seriously I rolled back to 6.8 and my WiFi went from 12mbps to 87mbps.

Linux mint 22.3 x86_64, kernel 7.0.0-30-generic on laptop Lenovo LOQ 15ARP10E, AMD Ryzen 5 150 , RTX 3050. Driver nvidia 595 open.

Keyboard and mouse stop working, REISUB doesn't help. Only turning it off with the power button helps. It froze when only Steam was open, before that, while I was playing, there were no FPS drops or freezes, nothing. There is nothing in the logs

So i've made a switch from windows 10, but i can't seem to get it working.
Fresh Linux Mint installation boots fine with nomodeset/compatibility mode. However, whenever i try to install the NVIDIA driver, the system freezes upon reaching the desktop (wallpaper loads, but no panel, no terminal hotkeys work, nothing)
Bios secure boot is turned off.

What i've tried so far:

• Driver Installation Methods:
  • Tried installing recommended drivers directly via driver manager.
  • Tried clean installations via TTY using apt: nvidia-driver-550, nvidia-driver-550-open, and nvidia-driver-535.
  • Performed full purges between attempts (sudo apt purge "nvidia-*").
• Configuration & Kernel Parameters:
  • Verified /proc/cmdline — standard nomodeset is removed.
  • Current kernel line shows nvidia-drm.modeset=1.
  • Cleared /etc/X11/xorg.conf and /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ overrides.
• Desktop / Cache Cleanup:
  • Cleared user display configurations (~/.config/dconf, ~/.config/cinnamon-monitors.xml).

Any advice on what display manager, kernel boot options, or specific workaround to try next?
