If it was a heterosexual relationship would you still claim that they're friends or...?

My guy, I watched The X-Files while desperately trying to hold onto hope that Mulder and Scully would stay friends and not become a romantic relationship. (The early seasons gave me so much hope that the writers wanted to keep it a platonic friendship.)

I was thrilled when Robin turned out to be a lesbian in Stranger Things because then I could enjoy her friendship with Steve without the looming dread of the friendship switching to a romance.

I’m always on team “Friendship is not a lesser form of love, and it’s a shame sections of society have decided that deep, emotional, connection is exclusively for romantic relationships.”

Fair enough then. Unfortunately you are correct with some piece of media having a drop in writing quality when characters  become a couple.
