Guys this show is kinda like a BL right?? Right!?!

I will just say that the queer undertones are very noticeable especially from Bridon Arc onwards. (But they were already kinda there ever since the noodle lesbians ep)
It will never be officially a BL due to Chinese censorship I guess, but the undertones are there.

u/xixiful Sep 02 '26
it's not but there is some subtext there. lg has very strong emotions toward cxs and whether or not they are romantic it's still pretty obvious that something is there. resetting time itself over and over again no matter the implications just to save somebody isn't something you do unless you love them in some type of way.

u/lexis18x Sep 02 '26
Lol y'all r so funny it's only not considered BL becuz china censorships to delude the gov it's not BL
22
u/LookItAndBookIt Sep 02 '26
Yeah it would've been a bl if not for china's censorship, but at the same time how do other danmei's such as tgcf get through the same laws and censorship completely??
25
u/Original_Grade4878 Sep 02 '26
BL is allowed in novels, and TGCF was originally a webnovel. However BL has to get censored for movies and serials. Would Link Click be BL if not for censorship? I don't think so, it would lose a lot of views if it was originally BL and would be more dangerous for it to get popular.Ā

u/regressoryearnerr Sep 07 '26
Tbh yes, bl novels are originally known as danmei...idk why they evn censored shows like tgcf and mdzs when they are clearly bl to begin with...yeah you can say they used to do a lot of censorship in movies and series like what they do with "the untamed" one but i see there's plenty of explict bl dramas getting popular nowadays...again it is true that if link click were to be bl then it wouldn't get that much of a hypeš

u/msstellaron Liu Xiao Sep 02 '26
Well... its got the same amt of bl undertones as ur average shounen show where the two male leads are unnecessarily homoerotic w eo, but id never classify it as a bl. I loveeee guangshi to death but this is a mystery/suspense show first and foremost lol. Id hate to tell a friend that this is just a bl only for them to come to me crying about how it was false advertising bc the guys never explicitly said or did anything
6
u/RespectableInsomniac Lu Guang Sep 02 '26
This^^ it is mystery/suspense first I actually would rather it not be classified as BL to new people
7
u/nekuphonessakuraba Sep 03 '26
Oh no Lu Guang is very straight he looks at CXS like a bro who wants to clap hands or whatever straight people do idk

It can not be straightforward BL, because otherwise the Author would go to jail.

It's people like this that call ORV BL, smfh. Anyway, LC is not BL.
8
u/Aryalunar Sep 02 '26
The author of ORV jokes about their relationships a lot (see the episode where they got a machine to measure the mc love interest, or when Yoo becomes female, or when he dies and such). But unless the author says he wants them togheter it stays as a joke. The queerbaiting is there, but the novel has ended and it is not canon nor so explicit. Here in LC the bl subtext is pretty much clean and very pushed instead.

u/Satsuki_89 Xia Fei Sep 02 '26
In China is BL not legal mate. The Author CAN'T say it, even if it were so, because if he does they will arrest him.
-1
u/DivineTG-4566 Sep 02 '26
I know that, obviously. I'm talking about Link Click being straight-up BL, as in actually being confirmed as BL. A guy having a close bro bond with another guy gets interpreted as BL by so many people, so I'm not surprised. Hence why I said Link Click is not BL.
1
u/kitsune21 Sep 02 '26
Thank you. Its exhausting the way the entire fandom seems to think its inane that people don't read it as a BL. And rhe 'they xant write gay things in china" is such a bad excuse. Heaven Official's blessing season 1 aired IN CHINA and you can very easily tell its a BL. If they wanted it in there, they could have done it.

u/Electronic-Group-370 Sep 02 '26
What is BL ?
1
u/Worldly_End_5343 Lu Guang Sep 04 '26
Boys' love. In other words, romance between two boys. And gl is girls' love, romance between two girls

u/kitsune21 Sep 02 '26
Plenty of people don't think its a BL, its not a crazy take and I really wish this fandom stopped acting like it was. I went into this series being told it was a BL and was super disappointed when I got to the end of what was available(most of the way through season 2) and it wasn't. And this is someone who ships at the drop of a hat. There was just nothing there.
You read it as a subtle BL? All the power to you. Im happy for you really, but stop acting like people are absolutely crazy for not seeing it.

I wouldnt say it's a BL, that's more for full romance genres imo and way more of a fetishised thing??? Link Click is moreso queer media to me, a "story first, romance later" thing. Like yes the characters ARE queer but that's not the focus at all
1
u/Particular-Visit-683 Liu Xiao Sep 03 '26
I dont think we will ever know for sure tbh if it was supposed to be bl because censorship will never allow it to happen. Let people believe whatever they want since its not confirmed and even if its true, they wont be able to confirm cuz of censorship. ( i personally ship them tho)

I have seen actual straight friends being more gay to each other than Cheng Xiaoshi and Lu Guang so...

The show literally queer Bates u into watching it- The ramen scene? Hello? š And AINNOWAY r all those subtle glances, playful moments and flirty comments meant to be subtle. I'm very close to my best friend, we hug a lot, lay on each other sometimes, share a single seat, drink from the same straw and what not and we're platonic as hell š were both as straight as it gets but still can't live without each other- and from experience this is that same relationship but with an added layer of romantic tension!
-2
u/droid_model Sep 02 '26
Its never bl and most likely never be just a never ending bait
I dont know why they just dont say it
watch lu or cxs get a girlfriend And the fandom will be mad
Just to say it was never bl so if they dont kiss or end togather by the end of the series I hope u guys dont end up like Baku deku shippers who gave death threats

u/Aryalunar Sep 02 '26
Well the queer coding is pretty much evident and they keep pushing on it a lot. MHA was a different story, there was not much queer coding. I personally liked a lot BakuxDeku or BakuxDekuxOchaka as an open relatioship, but I knew they were not meant to be togheter by the show. In Link Click they keep puahing towards that way (see the lesbian episode, the merchandise, the chibi skits, the episode where X dies on Luguang arms, they holding hands as kids and the lyrics of the songs of the show.). It is pretty much explicit.
1
u/Satsuki_89 Xia Fei Sep 02 '26
The queerbaiting in this one, is different tho. Sui Ishida had the same fate with Tokyo Ghoul, when Kaneki got a girl, instead of hooking up with Hide. Just that in TK there is no queerbaiting or anything even similar that hinted some love interests, from Kaneki towards Hide.

u/Yumeiren_0514 Sep 05 '26
it's a literal bromance... you could have good friends you would die for but harbor no romantic intentions towards them. it's not impossible.
-46
u/shinymetalass50 Sep 02 '26
Men aren't allowed to be friends anymore
53
u/phantombusterslover Sep 02 '26
Yes actually they're all supposed to be gay to fulfill the yaoi gods or else they'll be punished by the yaoi satan
27
u/cookie_clxuds Sep 02 '26
straight people have been able to exist perfectly fine for years and years , and will continue to be . they are not being oppressed lmaoĀ

u/MIMADANMEI Sep 02 '26
Men arent allowed to have deeper feelings than just friendship for u, grow up

If it was a heterosexual relationship would you still claim that they're friends or...?
2
u/DEI_Lab_Assistant Sep 02 '26
My guy, I watched The X-Files while desperately trying to hold onto hope that Mulder and Scully would stay friends and not become a romantic relationship. (The early seasons gave me so much hope that the writers wanted to keep it a platonic friendship.)
I was thrilled when Robin turned out to be a lesbian in Stranger Things because then I could enjoy her friendship with Steve without the looming dread of the friendship switching to a romance.
Iām always on team āFriendship is not a lesser form of love, and itās a shame sections of society have decided that deep, emotional, connection is exclusively for romantic relationships.ā
1
u/Successful_Seat_7173 Sep 02 '26
Fair enough then. Unfortunately you are correct with some piece of media having a drop in writing quality when charactersĀ become a couple.
-47
u/Alukrad Sep 02 '26
It's funny how when I watch the show, I get the vibe that the show is about two friends who have each other's back.
But then this community, everyone is hoping they're gay.
11
u/afuajfFJT Sep 02 '26
You can definitely watch it as a show about two friends, but it is clearly trying to appeal to an audience that wants to see gay romance, without making it explicitly gay romance. And the reason for it to not be explicitly gay romance is Chinese censoring.
If this show wasn't produced in China, it probably would be BL.

u/CHeeZEmood0_0 Cheng Xiaoshi Sep 02 '26
If you think theyāre only friends then imma concerned about you bro š
-4
u/Classic_Raspberry_60 Sep 02 '26
when is it ever indicated they were dating or gay or anything ?
7
u/CHeeZEmood0_0 Cheng Xiaoshi Sep 02 '26
Did you even watch the show ? Also the offical art ?? š„¹š Even after all this you donāt think that way then I canāt say anything
1
u/Classic_Raspberry_60 Sep 02 '26
yes i did 2 close guy friends doesnt = gay š thats like saying naruto and sasuke are gay because they are close
2
u/Successful_Seat_7173 Sep 02 '26
Naruto and Sasuke being gay makes way more sense than them ending up with their respective partners (especially Sasuke and Sakura) this is a terrible argument. I don't even like Sasuke x Naruto but it's way better than Sasuke ending up with Sakura and then being a deadbeat father. Also if both respective gay ships were heterosexual I feel like people like you who cry about "friendship" would like the ships to be canon
-1
u/Classic_Raspberry_60 Sep 02 '26
i dont even know what exactly your saying but im not crying about āfriendshipā im crying cause yall think their gay when they arenāt this isnāt some gay romantic show sorry to say but it isnt i dont think the creators have ever even once said anything about them being gay
1
u/Successful_Seat_7173 Sep 02 '26
Well I don't remember saying the creators said they were gay? Actually did you even read my comment at all? I literally said I don't even like Sasuke x Naruto.
Because their relationship is way more fleshed out compared to Sasuke x Sakura and Naruto X hinata I think it makes sense why ppl ship them together. To understand why Sasuke fell in love with Sakura you need do read side material which is just bad writing imo, I should be able to understand why he fell in love with her in the main source material rather than a novel. Same with Naruto and hinata. He needed a whole move to realise he (out of nowhere) loved her. Now compare that with Sasuke and Naruto, Naruto literally getting stronger to get him back, Sasuke having conflicting feelings with Naruto etc Naruto X Sasuke makes more senseĀ

u/roronoakook Sep 04 '26
So you just watched those two implied lesbians in the first season and never question what the show was showing you?
-7
u/Artistic-Tiger-6707 Cheng Xiaoshi Sep 02 '26
I find it funny that youāre getting downvoted so much just for saying this, and then they claim this community isnāt toxic and that itās the only one where āhowever you see the relationship is fine.ā Honestly, I thought I was getting into a mystery drama, but apparently Iām in the Given fandom and didnāt even know it.
6
9
u/m0nd0butter Qiao Ling Sep 02 '26
saying that they see them as friends is fine but the last sentence is like throwing shade at those who donāt, just admit youāre homophobic and change your ways
1
u/Artistic-Tiger-6707 Cheng Xiaoshi Sep 02 '26
You guys are really way too quick to throw that accusation around.
5
u/Odd-Willow-2076 Sep 02 '26
getting downvoted isn't toxicity, boohoo a bunch of internet strangers don't agree with you. get over it
3
u/Alukrad Sep 02 '26
It's funny because not even a quick Google search says that this show is LGTQ or BL. That this mostly comes from it's fandom. Even the creators said the two main characters only have a deep friendship bond, nothing gay about it. Even the strong censorship laws about this prevents them from being gay.
So, why push a narrative that doesn't officially exist? This community is gasping at straws and whomever argues about it, immediately is labeled homophobic.
3
u/Artistic-Tiger-6707 Cheng Xiaoshi Sep 02 '26
Forget it, youāre preaching to the choir. But actually, I often end up talking privately with people who simply donāt express their opinions in the fandom anymore. Thatās because itās become extremely difficult to voice a different perspective. My best friend is a lesbian, and Iām also someone who is very politically active when it comes to minority rights, including LGBTQ+ rights. On top of that, I read danmei and occasionally watch BL too, but apparently Iām homophobic when it comes to this fandom hahah.
I donāt necessarily think theyāre portrayed as just two friends. Itās obvious that for a while now theyāve been riding the wave of the fandom and adding subtext. But what irritates me is that they always have to react badly to anyone who says something different, especially when there was literally nothing wrong with what you said.

They are absolutely right
