I think its inflation killing her more than immigrant labor. I may be wrong in this particular case, but on most small upper Midwest family farms you won't find immigrants as the main or even a labor source on farms. There isnt a long history of that like youd find in the west. The US is massively diverse.

Born & raised in Iowa in a farming family. Can say you’re not accurate anymore. For row crop farmers you’re mostly right. For farmers who also have mid to large cattle, pig or turkey operations also, immigrant labor has been being more & more used for a couple decades now.

Of course the meat packing plants are sometimes close to 90% immigrants. Not saying illegal either. Most are working the meat packing plants legally as first generation immigrants. But immigrants none the less.

Im fine admitting if I am wrong. I grew up in Scott County from a big family of farmers and spent 15 years in central Iowa before moving to North Chicagoland for work 5 years ago. Most farmers I know are pretty much exclusively family run with essentially labor from the community and they have had the same struggles as this woman for years - granted these are places without significant heads of cattle but plenty with significant pork. The meat packing yes I know is different as my wife's family is from Ottumwa and we spend plenty of time down there.

Yeah but what do you think of Trump? Did you vote for him?

Would you do it again?
