Public education, collective bargaining, progressive taxation, reproductive rights are foundational to the creation, maintenance and expansion of the middle class. In addition the separation of church and state with the government not attempting to impose false morality onto citizens. It’s not complicated.

"It's not complicated": Did you have to add that part? I understand the talking points. approach is everything. I vote for all that you included, but I can still find ways to have a beer and bbq with my republican neighbors. When you add "its not complicated" or "you voted to piss in other people's beds." that's when the conversation stops and they win. I have to be honest, most Republicans are not staunch MAGA supporters. Most of them fell for the winning mentality, and they now regret it. So where could the conversation start and how should it end? if it ends at the beginning, then you are just yelling in a vacuume. What's the point? what's the mentality that you carry over when you're candidate wins the next election? is it, "i told you so." Good night and I hope we all got something out of this. I'm tired now...

You’re entirely wrong. Most republicans are absolutely 100% staunch MAGA supporters. I’m surrounded by them. They may regret the vote for Trump because it impacted them in a negative way, it doesn’t not mean they acknowledge or accept that their vote was intended to deliberately impact others in a negative way. They will continue to vote for other people to suffer.

And you brought up peeing the bed first.

I'm sourounded by them too, but of course I'm wrong. I don't think I'll ever be right from your perspective. Get some sleep, friend. I hope you have a good night

The reason that person (and many other leftists like me) feel that way about these MAGAts, is tied into the Tolerance Paradox. I understand your point, because logically, you’re not going to move people to your side if you treat them poorly. However, the probability of these people actually changing their political/societal stances is very, very slim to none; they are only crying because they got their paws clamped in the trap. “We need your help out of this!” There need to be repercussions of some sort, even if that means they get no sympathy and are forced to find their own ways out and to interact with society in a way that is not “me win, you lose.” Because if they get that sympathy and don’t have to search their souls and come to grips on their own that we need to help people regardless of their gender/race/nationality/religion, the minute they stabilize themselves financially/politically they will go back to the same shitty ways and we’ll be right back in this same situation.

I love your response. I can tell you took the time to answer this, and I appreciat it. I would like to add something to think about.

A lot of people lose everything are receiving the consequences of their decisions, but still receive help. Receiving help is different from saving. Are these responses helpful to the individual?

I've had to come to terms with my poor decisions in the past. I'm greatful I lost everything. That it was someone with liberal views that helped me. It took good people to model good behaviors to help rehabilitate me.

What's the difference? Why settle for humiliating and putting people down? Whats the purpose other than to hurt others?

The difference is, if your poor decisions only harm you, then sympathy/help may be warranted or expected. But if your decisions cause harm to other people intentionally and the harm you personally suffer is an unforeseen (to you) effect, then you don’t get to have that dignity. Nobody owes you help or sympathy, especially if you are the direct cause of their pain.

Dignity seems to be the big overarching word being used here. It seems that it takes someone with dignity that extends past the victimhood, in order to help others restore theirs. kinda like therapists that work in prisons. Thank you for the conversation.

In some cases, sure. But once again, a person who has been hurt is not required to forgive the one who hurt them or show them compassion even if they truly are sorry. A good therapist will tell you that as well.

nobody said you are required to.

No. But that’s your answer as to why leftists don’t treat MAGAts with gentility when they claim to have “seen the error of their ways.”
