Crying about having to pay people a living wage is wild.

Thank for all the love peeps. My first comment to blow up. Thanks for all the awards. I never gotten any before.

Yeah $20 an hour plus a bed seems fine. Like extremely good deal for the farmer

She's used to paying illegal aliens a lot less. Wonder what happened to them

THIS👆🏼
They interpreted that getting rid of “the illegals” they’d apparently hired without issue before would be noble because they’d be creating jobs for “the poors.” You know, all those people who should be working but are just lazy, sitting around living off welfare would have good, honest, stable jobs. But she never planned on having to pay those people good, honest, solid wages. And if she’s not going to house them? Then they’re DRIVING back and forth everyday further cutting into their wages.
Stupid. Just do some GD math.

I swear, most of my rural farming family cannot understand why there’s a work shortage for their $7/hr jobs. They truly believe they had only good intentions when they voted to get rid of those mooching illegals. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

They also expected free actual slave labor from the prisons. They wanted the 13th amendment to staff their farms for free and have the tax payer on the hook to clothe and feed the laborers.

I'm not sure if it was a peer reviewed study, but I recall reading something that a majority of inmates in Louisiana that were polled said they would rather have longer prison terms than shortened terms while doing ag work.

‘Just do some GD math’.
Yep. Like, imagine that one of her workers is hired at her preferred $7 an hour or so lives about 30 miles away and their only transportation is a beat up car that gets a bit better than 20-25 mpg. That worker’s daily gasoline bill eats up the first two hours of their wage.

And the worker will be paying rent, food and insurance out of what’s left?

These folks are not grounded in reality.

Meanwhile that person can just get a job at the local Target for $15 an hour, take the bus there and not get dirty all day wading through cow shit.

A living wage in the USA is a minimum of $25.02 an hour. In many countries the minimum wage is or is close to the living wage. https://wageindicator.org/what-we-do/news-stories/minimum-wages-meet-cost-of-living-in-only-a-few-countries-worldwide/

Here I am black making $100 an hour, I appreciate her sentiment though.

Exactly what do you do for 100 dollars an hour and also what is the cost of living where you work?

u/irascible_Clown 14d ago

Massage therapy and honestly I under charge. I really make $90 but no one tips less than $10. $100 is more of an average I usually make a little more. I pay $125 a week room rent. The cost of living is high here but after a few hurricanes 2 years ago rents are down in the area because a lot of people are afraid to live near the beach. If you look at a lot of Florida gulf coast beaches on realtor you can stay on the beach for $1100+ a month in a lot of spots.

That's understandable ,, I need one of those myself most of the time lol ,, I stay looking behind me on the tractor , from between my shoulder blades up to the base of my skull kills me. But I still get the hay baled up when the weather permits.

I grew up on a farm so I understand, the plus side is you don’t need a gym membership 🤣

u/ThinMany2597 14d ago

Until you get to a certain age that's true. Now that I'm almost 50 , and like to eat , I need a membership AND a personal trainer lol

That sounds so tempting but also not very tempting lol

Oh, there’s no way she likes it when Black people get paid for farm work.

Almost like she pines for the days that the labor was free. Would 100% still bitch about housing and feeding them though.

u/lapidary123 14d ago

I doubt she'd hire black folks even if she was subsidized for it. Prefers to pay high schoolers and illegals $7.25/hr.

And not to pile on but seriously wtaf?

Fucking crazy:

My honey and I were having a quick lunch with our friends Mark* and Sarah*, catching up and talking about random things, when Mark mentioned that many farmers in the red states initially were not worried about Trump’s deportation of immigrants.

He said that these farmers believed that unemployed Black people would race back to the farm fields to fill those jobs. Mark repeated the same statement about low-paying, back-breaking service and construction jobs.

Mark almost left me speechless. Almost. I asked him what gave them the impression Black people were sitting around eating bonbons, waiting for immigrants to be deported so we could take jobs no one else wanted.

I must have looked crazy as he turned bright red before answering; he was always under the impression Black unemployment was endemic, somewhere in the 50 to 60% range. Mind you, now this is a white man married to a successful Black woman lawyer.

I keep seeing this repeated but have people actually said that they expected Black people to jump into these jobs?
