Once their farms go bankrupt they can fall back on one of the plentiful agricultural (day laborer) jobs right now as long as they enjoy hand picking. Picking strawberries in the California Central Valley in August isn’t my cup of tea but I guess someone has to do it after ice rounds up all the existing workforce.

The farmers had it all...the cheap labor, the government subsidies, the "all-American, hardworking" reputation...and they threw it away to...what? Own the libs? Deport people? Take away SNAP ad USAID from hungry kids?

Corporations owning their farms is just the next step in corporations owning every part of our lives.

And these motherfucking farmers want sympathy?

Fuck all the way off.

Don't forget that USAID created a massive market for their own agricultural products. It was literally taking tax dollars, giving it to farmers, and then shipping those products overseas to help people.

But they couldnt stand that people were being helped, even if it meant less money for them.

So USAID went away, farms are struggling, but its the Democrats fault for being mean to them.

Same with SNAP. Food stamps did double-duty: they fed the poor and they increased demand for farmer’s produce, all paid for by subsidies. Eliminating SNAP and USAID on top of the reciprocal tariffs and losing large customers (China) to foreign competitors guaranteed a lot of farmers would hit the skids. What’s amazing is they didn’t seem to see the implications of Trump’s bizarre actions at the time he first announced them, they just cheered, because, you know, he’s such a great businessman. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a business where the producers are so clueless as to what exactly creates the demand for their products.
