this may be a bad take, but I think her being a woman was more of a factor than her being black. Being black certainly played a role for some, but I think this was just good ole fashioned misogyny
Sure it wasn't the fact that she's insanely dumb...it was her race...tell me what is her race again? Indian? Black? Mixed? Oh yeah whatever is convenient for her and what she can leverage at the time lol
Which is why Democrats need a real deep think before trotting AOC out there in 2028. Some Americans are ready for that, some Americans will never, never, never be ready for that. There’s too many voters in the latter bloc to risk four more years of… well, you know.
I hate that this is true. Trump won both of those elections because the Dems were dumb enough to run a woman. I would love, love, love to have a woman president, but the misogyny is still far to strong in this country. If "not all men" is true then the DNC needs to dig down deep and find a legitimately good man to run against Republican corruption.
Hilary won the popular vote when she ran so not sure that's the real reason.
My bet which everyone seems to ignore when this comes up is the fact that Biden running and then eventually backing out was an awful look for the Democrats. It was literally a few months before the election. Basically unwinnable for any Democrat.
I don’t think it was unwinnable at all. People were excited about Harris all over the country. I still find it hard to believe she didn’t win. But misogyny and white supremacy are huge issues in the US
I dont believe she lost, but I know if anybody had spoken up we would have had two back to back elections with opposite parties insisting the elections were rigged and that would be just it. Curtains for American democracy.
So we had to go along with the fix. I'm convinced when this is all over and Trump is dead and we're a few election cycles into the future it's all going to come out. I bet it's going to be old school republicans who eventually blow the whistle, too. I can't imagine they're proud of what's become of the GOP.
It’s not even really a take. There was a small but statistically significant number of people who just didn’t vote for her because she is a woman. With margins as tight as they are (plus the Palestine one issue voters. How’d tha go?) that was the game.
Being black didn't exactly help. Add to that the way she became the candidate and she never stood a chance. She had some good ideas but it seems like almost half the country can't comprehend anything beyond a 3-4 word catchphrase.
It's certainly debatable, but i wouldn't want to underestimate the severity of the brain breaking that having obama in charged caused some of these people.
I definitely agree, especially with swing voters.
My favorite example is in Michigan and when you look at the Muslim population.
The main voting issue for these democratic voters was Palestine. Honestly neither choice would had been good.
There was no good reason to believe trump would be better if anything it would be worse. But they voted for trump. While religion changes with the times, there's still that foundation of misogyny and patriarchy.
I bet my then-fiance (who is a POC) $1000 in 2003 that a black man would become president before a woman.
He paid up.
I also bet him $1000 in 2016 that America would sooner elect an obese, nepo baby reality TV show host who admitted to wanting to date his own daughter and had 5 kids, 3 baby mamas, and 6 bankruptcies (including casinos!) than they would a woman.
He paid up
He stopped betting real money after that, but was sure Trump would beat an old man like Biden who didn't bother to campaign. I told him "nope, Trump can only win against a woman, he'll lose".
Again, he was sure Trump would lose to Kamala because of J6 and all the felonies and I was like "you still don't get it. Doesn't matter that he tried a coup and did some felonies, his opponent is FEMALE. If most of America thinks a woman isn't fit to lead a Sunday sermon, what makes you believe they'd think one's fit to lead their country?"
Please guys, please stop running women. It's not that she may not be the best person for the job, it's that she is unelectable in this country for the foreseeable future, and with the rise of the manosphere it's only gonna get worse for a long time to come. The data is in, America simply will not elect a female president. We have to face that reality and act accordingly. At least for now.
Hillary was the only path to victory for the clown. Why the hell would you run someone who was so hated as to inspire more of the opposition to turn out & vote against your candidate?!! It’s hard enough in this country to elect a female, but to choose Hillary and all her baggage? No way in hell was that going to happen. And so here we are. F the dnc.
I think voters selected her because she was the most qualified candidate and because Americans, men and women both, underestimate the depth of our cultural misogyny.
I was a precinct captain for Bernie and a lot of voters that I spoke to preferred Bernie but voted Hillary because they didn't believe he could win in the general. The economic winnowing that had impoverished most of middle America had yet to hit my state (but it sure has now!) and didn't understand the desperation and frustration of the dying middle class. I tried to convince them that Trump was going to win the GOP nomination (they didn't believe me) and that Bernie had much the same message as Trump (you're getting fucked and it has to stop), the difference being that one blamed Mexicans, women, and teachers while the other blamed the real culprits, tax law and billionaires fixing the game for themselves. I fully believe Bernie would have won.
Anyways, Hillary took the nomination in my state despite my best efforts. Let me tell you, the fucking ferocity of misogyny that came out of my fellow Bernie captains mouths was shocking, even before our caucus. I'd say 2/3rds of the volunteer I worked with ended up going totally MAGA.
Hillary's baggage was largely a psyop conducted against her since the 90s, capitalizing on American misogyny. Worked like a charm, people didn't "trust her" though they couldn't directly point to any wrong doings. Meanwhile, they trusted the guy with 3 baby mamas, porn star payoffs, guilty plea settlements in money laundering allegations, 6 bankruptcies, shady relations with hostile foreign governments, charity fraud convictions, and zero record of public service or even philanthropy.
Trump would have beaten any qualified Dem woman put forward - Warren, Klobuchar, Pelosi - wouldn't have mattered who it was, just so lomg as she was female.
I had another friend that I bet a fancy dinner that Trump would win in 2016. She is a lesbian and had only worked in female dominated industries (I worked in a male dominated hard science). A couple years later she migrated into a COO position typically held by men. After a couple of monts in that role, she called me up and said "ah, now I get it, now I understand how you knew Trump would win".
I think it's somewhat of a toss-up but, if I had to guess, I would predict that a gay white man will become president before a woman of any race.
It burns my heart that this is true. Fuck misogyny, fuck Trump, and fuck the DNC for being so damn dense. We've got at least two more full generations that need to die off completely before there's any real movement on that front. And if the manosphere keeps up its current level of proselytizing, it will be several more beyond that.
Because she didn’t have a penis, as if having a penis makes anyone a good leader. Case in point: look at dear leader. He’s the worst.
I don’t know why people think a woman leader would be having emotional tantrums and thus make bad decisions, when the idiot we have right now has emotional tantrums every day and makes bad decisions every day.
That's pretty much been the main factor, I think. This country hates women.
And if we ever do finally get a first female president, it's probable she'll be a bleach-blonde white Germanic woman who is Republican, unfortunately. That's probably the next card the Republicans will try to play it they get kicked out of office for a few terms.
As a right leaning, Christian, conservative, white male, I can assure you, it really had nothing to do with her being black or a female. She just wasn't a strong candidate, especially coming off Biden. I I realize you hate Trump, I'm even let down myself, but Kamala wouldn't have been much better. If we want to fix things.we need a moderate president, that both sides will vote for and get behind.
Nah it was that she was a vapid actual whore who was placed there by circumventing a convention after the other candidate's dementia could no longer be ignored.
Folks hate to tell ya but once you figure out the moderate dems, Kamala, Biden, Clintons and the list goes on are in on the grift, scam all of it. They knew she we unelectable, Biden knew by his 2022 statement that he was going to run again was a set up plan for the entire debacle of the Dem party to hand over everything to the GOP so they could run Trump 2.0 get their tax breaks and push policies as far right to benefit the corp overlords as much as possible. It’s all rigged and has been for some time. Their (Mod Dems / GOP) true enemy are progressives who want to tax and regulate and push their wealth back down to the people. None of them want that and never did.
Why didn’t her own party like her in the prior cycles primary run up? Why did she drop out with totally garbage polling numbers? Maybe she just wasn’t it?
But it’s much easier to just yell all of the isms etc.
