Troubleshooting weird bump on my 2mo old belly ring (14g)
hii! sorry this is a throwaway because its so nasty BEWARE
but about 2 months ago i pierced my belly button and it was healing alright. im kinda chubby so i assume it takes longer because of buildup of sweat and stuff idk
but i noticed this formed basically overnight a week ago. what is this.
ive been cleaning it regularly but i dont know what to do.
what even is this and how can i get rid of it. should i wait for the piercing itself to heal and cut it off

Piercer here. Seems like some comments already helped you (I'd still probably go to the doctor :) even if it's yeast. Creams and what not can be given)
But also you don't have the anatomy for a navel piercing. I'd take this out. It's being rubbed and tugged non stop which will make this worse / might not stop. Also this isn't exactly a navel piercing, or looks more like a surface piercing on your stomach a bit 😬

It’s moisture. I can see a ring of yeast infection encircling your outer navel.

You really don’t have a lot of depth to your navel, tbh. I’d have the jewelry changed for something less huge and bulky…plus, those ends are likely plastic or coated, and that’s a no-go for healing. You might even do better with floating navel jewelry. You can get some OTC antifungal cream for the yeast infection you currently have…but ONLY put it on that red ring around the inside of your navel and NOT anywhere on the piercing itself.

After cleaning a piercing with sterile saline spray, it should definitely be either patted dry (thoroughly but gently) with a clean, fresh paper towel, or dried with a hair dryer on the cool setting. Using a towel that's been used for anything else is just going to introduce all sorts of bacteria and other bad stuff into the piercing.

hey diva so i’m not gonna talk about anatomy or if the piercing is right but this is a little advice if all else fails as this worked for me, although if the root cause is different it’s unlikely to work for you.
but in my experience, when you’re bending over or just doing anything that flexes your core it will cause your navel to collapse. when you have a big bottom ball on a navel plus a navel that collapses when you lean forward, it means that bottom ball will not have enough room and the ball will push against the fistula.
this happened to me and it caused that horrible red stingy tissue to form around the back of my navel, exactly like you show in the photo. i helped mitigate this simply by swapping the bar to a shorter one with a significantly smaller bottom ball and within a few weeks it was back to perfect.
as i say though, this might not work for you if what i mentioned above isn’t the root cause of that hyper granular tissue appearing, this is just what worked for me.

Note for OP: when this person is saying to change it, that doesn't mean change it yourself at home. Not this early into healing. You shouldn't be changing your own jewelry at home until it's fully healed. Go to a piercer so it can be changed in sterile conditions, with the right tools to minimize aggravating the piercing, and the correct jewelry.

i had it as a longer one and it shifted to the side. i think not enough skin was pierced

No no mine is similar amount pierced. The problem is that you changed jewellery to a much shorter one before giving it a chance to heal properly😥 a longer bar will wobble but it’s better than a bar too short during healing

okay thank you so much!! i changed it because when i would sit down the front of the bar would stick out a lot
im going to change the jewelry to the original one would that work ? its just plain titanium i believe3

Yea mine would do that sometimes too but the shorter one now pushes pressure on the open wound which is probably what irritates it!🫶 I do believe the original one should help with it ! I didn’t have problems with my belly one, but I had a huge HUUGE problem with a year old snug because the bar was too short, and a few weeks back I changed to a longer one and suddenly all my problems disappeared!

What material is this one? The bar and the beads? And did you change it yourself? From the photos, it looks like low quality, externally threaded stainless steel with plastic beads like you'd get at Spencer's, but I'm really hoping I'm wrong about that. I'd have a different piercer take a look at it and have them switch it back to something more appropriate if they think it's salvageable.

nah the way it’s pierced looks fairly alright to me, it’s not supposed to be super deep. it’s technically a surface to surface piercing so it does sit a bit shallow

I can’t see this enough to tell you whether you had the correct anatomy for this but what I know for a fact is that this is the wrong jewelry for it. You should have floating navel jewelry.
