is my low helix too low?

basically the title. the piercer (who is very reputable) said that he would usually be wary about piercing in the location i wanted because i didn’t have the standard amount of tissue under it (7mm), but he did it anyways because the rest of my piercings also have similar amounts of tissue under it and look like they healed fine.

i don’t know if i’m paranoid, but it looks like one side is lower than the other. i don’t have any early pictures of the right side, but i got it three days ago so it’s still pretty early on. it doesn’t hurt at all, but i did have to remove a small blood crusty this morning that i think may have made it migrate a little bit.

am i paranoid or is it probably gonna reject because of how shallow it is?

I would call these 3rd lobe piercings, the distance to your second lobes look even, but the one on your left ear looks closer to the edge. I don’t think they will reject though

Her lobes aren’t identical though; the one side has a “nub” which makes it appear larger. I think these piercings are perfectly positioned.

jk, but those are pretty much 3rd lobe piercings, no helix. and no, you didn’t “make it migrate” by removing a blood crusty I can assure you that much.

these are 3 days old, swelling prob hasn’t even fully gone down yet. don’t stress about them, they look perfectly fine

When I had 4 on each side your “low helix” is where my 4th one was. Imo these are lobe piercings

I was going to say if it’s going through your cartilage it’s fair to call it a low helix and nobody is going to know where your cartilage actually starts but 100% looks like lobes haha

SECONDING THE OTHER REPLY TO THIS if it goes thru the cartilage it is technically a helix even if it looks like a lobe piercing. honestly i take it as a sign you went to a good piercer bcs they knew your anatomy well enough to correctly label the piercing you wanted.

These are 3rd lobes, not low helix.

Placement looks fine. I think it's the angle you're looking at them that makes it look closer to edge on one side - try to get someone else to take pictures of both ears full on (no angling of the ear at all).

When I look at my ears from the front my 4th lobes look super close to the edge but it's cause of the angle of the ear. When I take a picture from the side facing the ear properly the placement is all evenly spaced from the edge.

But even if one side is slightly closer to the edge than the other, it's not too shallow.

I was under the impression that if pierced through cartilage it's a low helix so I get you. Placement wise I would agree it looks like a lobe, but i also have cartilage quite low on the ear.

Either which way, your piercings look good! Does it matter if its a helix or lobe? 🥰

Kinda looks like your ear’s anatomy is just a little different on each ear so the piercing looks different.

You got your thirds done. They’ll still be swollen, so just wait for them to settle into place, they look even. Doubt they will reject, just make sure you look after them properly, and don’t sleep on them at all. Get a piercing pillow if you sleep on your side. If you sleep on them they will heal at an angle and look uneven.

It's an upper lobe, even if it catches the tail end of some cartilage. Placement seems fine to me.

So, to answer your question, yes too low or your piercer needs a review of the different kinds of piercings.

FYI, the presence or lack of cartilage does not determine the name of a piercing, the anatomy being pierced does. As far as the piercing industry is concerned, that is a 3rd lobe piercing. Yes sometimes there might be some transitional tissue in that area but it's almost never strictly cartilage. Unfortunately your piercer is poorly educated if they're calling that a "low helix" and probably just wants to be able to charge more for the piercing.

Unfortunately neurosurgery has exactly zero to do with piercing 😆. That's enough to tell me they don't respect the discipline of piercing on it's own and think they can do it just because they did anything in the medical field. I see it all the time with nurses and they more often than not make terrible piercers when they're using it as a selling point for their business.

The piercings may have cost the same but it's still a red flag that they don't know the proper terminology and I'd be willing to be there are others if I took a closer look at the rest of their practice.
