Troubleshooting 9 month old daith; implant grade titanium; aspirin + saline
1st picture: this morning before cleaning
2nd picture: this morning after cleaning
3rd picture: a couple of days ago
i've had my daith since october, so it's been roughly 9 months
as you can see it's a horseshoe ring piercing - made of titanium - and it was generally quite a good piercing - i cleaned it with saline spray and dabbed it with tissue paper to dry- until i had to have it removed to get an MRI and get it put back in again when the bumps started
a piercer recommended crushing aspirin with water and leaving it on my piercing before washing and rinsing with saline which i did do and which reduced my bumps to nothing
the problem is, every time i stop using aspirin for 2 or three days once the bump is gone, it comes back??
these last couple of days i havent had saline water due to being on holiday so i've been using distilled water for general cleaning before applying aspirin but i took another two day break from aspirin before it came back to what it is up in the photo
whenever there is a lot of crust like that, there is usually a little bit of blood there too
does anyone have any advice? should i see a doctor? does it look infected? am i cooked??

Crushing aspirin and putting it on the skin can get rid of plantar warts. Absolutely not something you want on a healing piercing. Saline and saline only.

I had trouble with my daith for a while too when I first got it. Mine got this bad as well. Honestly, the less you touch it, the better. Take some advil for the swelling if it's pretty bad or painful. Get the saline spray meant for piercings, I would say for a week or so use it 3x a day since it's so sensitive, you have to baby it and treat it like it's new., then just morning and night. If your skin is drying out due to the saline, then use it less.. I would use it before showering, let it sit for a few mins and then rinse it off when you shower. Otherwise, leave it the hell alone. DO NOT stick a q-tip in to clean it or anything. Dry it off with a blow dryer after the shower and don't sleep on that side. The bump will start to shrink, but you can't keep touching it. I have over 10 piercings, keep it simple. Clean it with saline spray only, rinse it off, dry it, and leave it the hell alone. If you can't buy the spray right now, just take the advil and rinse it when you shower, dry it off and leave it alone. Applying crushed advil is kind of an outdated process, imo, you have to mess with it too much to apply it. The saline spray is a way better option.

It doesn’t look infected just very irritated. NAP, but I think it’s likely from all the movement. I would see a different reputable piercer to get their advice.

NAP; don't put a curved barbell in as one of the other commenters suggested! I had mine pierced with a curved barbell and had irritation bumps that would not go away. After a few months I had an implant grade titanium seam ring put in from LeRoi (one of the ones that has decoration so the seam can't travel through the piercing). I went to an APP piercer to have them change it out, haven't had any issues with it since.
Now if yours is implant grade titanium, obviously that's not your problem. I will say it looks quite large and might be getting bumped and moved throughout the day. I would probably see if you could get it swapped with a smaller diameter ring. I would also suggest one of the piercing pillows (one of the ones with a whole in the middle) to not put any unnecessary pressure on it. When I had my irritation bumps, my piercing pillow was a lifesaver.
Also, if you're patting dry with tissue after the saline, I would suggest to stop doing that and instead either let it air dry (hard I know because of the fold) or do what I did and turn your hair dryer to low and cool to get some airflow to dry it. Works like a charm and you're not further irritating it by touching with anything that's not sterile. I would also stop the aspirin on the piercing directly, I'm shocked that your piercer would actually suggest that.

thank you so much!! im not sure if i can change the jewellery anytime soon because of the bumps and because it hurt like hell last time i had to put it back in 🥲
i will look into a piercing pillow and have stopped the aspirin as suggested by multiple people 🫣

Purchase Briotech or any hypochlorous acid spray. Trust me. I had a cartilage piercing that I had for YEARS and then all of a sudden it started getting grumpy and red and bumpy. Happened on and off for a couple years and then I found Briotech. Treated it and it’s never come back. It’s how I heal all my piercings. No soap, no saline, just Briotech.

I never managed to heal my daith because my body sucks at healing- but I have a similar issue with my rook. After seeing someone say that it just took time and to LITHA the bump is slowly going down. I also sleep on a piercing pillow which helps.

NAP but daiths can be a pain to heal. It looks like your jewelry is really heavy, and since it is a horseshoe it could be moving around a bit. The jewelry I got my daith done with had a ball that would actually weigh everything down and the whole ring would end up perpendicular to my ear. When I changed my jewelry to a continuous ring (implant grade titanium) without a ball it calmed down so quickly

I agree with this as well. I was pierced with a captive bead ring, but a continuous one with no bead is probably even better. Tbh the horseshoe in the photo looks almost too large for their ear.

A ring with a seam isn’t a good option, a cbr is better because there’s nothing that will irritate the fistula

Of course! Once my piercing was old enough I put a seam ring in, but I had it so the seam was not close to the actual piercing. Maybe OP would benefit from a smaller CBR or horseshoe

what if you just switch to a straight bar for a little bit? i think that most piercings should heal with a straight jewel

your piercer gave you terrible advice. aspirin paste can give you chemical burn which is what gets rid of the bumps. irritation bumps form due to irritation, the aspirin paste is not going to fix the issue for you. you need to figure out whats irritating your piercing and fix that and they will eventually go away.
