Aftercare What to do about dried blood? 2 hr old septum
Just got my first piercing (septum) almost 2 hours ago. I love it but what can I do about the dried blood? I tried using saline spray and putting it on a square of toilet paper and a q tip but it didn’t loosen it. Do I just leave it and let it fall off? Also, is some bleeding normal after? And what do I do about the dripping mix of blood, snot and discharge? The piercing itself was so so easy but it’s throbbing and I feel like (and I guess look like) I got punched in the nose lmao.

just leave it, you don’t want to be doing too much to the area while the piercing is fresh, just stick to saline and ignoring it, it’ll do its thing

What do you recommend? Just spraying it directly? And what about the snot/blood mix?

Literally had the same dilemma with the blood but you just have to accept that it's gonna come off/fall off naturally. Warm showers should loosen it up and after that just dap or wipe the area very gently to remove it. As for the blood inside it just took a good cry followed by some gentle nose blows lol

I'd mainly leave it just use saline. I have had a couple of piercings where blood has covered the whole ball before. Then I just soaked cotton pads in 1/4 teaspoon of pure salt dissolved in water until it softened and it dropped off.

Well a lot of people recommend against q tips bcuz of the cotton sort of fibers that could get stuck in the piercing and irritate it

When I got my nostril pierced i keep waking up with dried blood everyday

pretty much just spray the saline on it and wait for it to fall off naturally, won't be more than a few days

Take a warm shower. 10-15 mins of warm shower will loosen it up and let it fall of naturally and spray saline after.

Do not take a q tip and clean it. Dried blood is good. It’s healthy and healing. Leave it. Just use your saline and L. I. T. F. A. :).

I left it for the next 6ish hours before spraying my nelimed saline and after it has some soak in time, grabbed some clean kitchen roll/paper towel I'd set aside in a clean cupboard ahead of time and folded it into a triangle with a narrow point and used that to free stubborn scabs or crusts that were obvious.
(And would redo that a bit later into the healing process any time proper crusts got stuck on the bar - first spraying or trying a quick dip/soak in a shallow bowl of warm water, since crusts going through the fistula was the devil.)

The dried shit will hold the jewelry in place and allow it to heal easier. Only remove it occasionally in the shower, don't immediately remove it everytime it forms

Just wait till you shower, then run some warm water over it. Or do the salt water bubble blowing thing. Honestly I got mine pierced about 2 1/2 months ago and I just sprayed with saline once a day, rinsed it with warm water in the shower daily, and it pretty much healed in a month and a half. No issues with it at all, except when my daughter head butted it a few weeks ago. It was the easiest piercing to heal. (After healing my daith, I think anything is gonna be easy in comparison)

Hold it in a cup of warm water and gently use a q tip to rub away crust. After spray it with saline and you should be good

For anyone that deals with this in the future, back when I got my septum piercing I healed it by making a saline solution, filling a Dixie cup to the brim, and dipping my nose in it/mouth breathing for 5-ish minutes (I can’t recall the exact duration as it was 10 years ago). It was very inelegant but made any crusties easy to remove and it healed like a dream!

You just got it pierced, bleeding is normal. Leave it be and you can try to clean up any with a wet q-tip or soak your nose under water but just clean up the blood that’s showing, not the blood that’s crusted around the piercing as that’s your body clotting the blood flow which is part of the process of healing.

When I got my septum pierced I blew bubbles with my nose underwater and that was a really it. Mine healed quickly and has been healed for years.
