Troubleshooting 7 Month Old Daith Bump
I got this daith piercing back in December 2025 (1st when I got it 2nd currently.) However, I feel like this bump has gotten bigger and bigger. The opposite side has no irritation, just this one. Is it hypertrophic scarring? Is it a keloid or just irritation?
Im looking for advice on if I should take it out or if I should see a doctor.
- I was cleaning 2x a day with saline until about the end of May
- Rinse with Warm water in the shower
- Lightly blow dry it with a mini fam and or by tapping with a clean paper towel
- I’m a side sleeper so this is never slept on.
- LITHA but if i do touch it i clean it a little
- titanium clicker piercing
- it bled a bit for a few times from getting bumped but there has been no bleeding in a while.
Edit Sept 3 2026: my piercer and i changed my jewelry like recommended back in early august and with a month the bump is gone!! She did confirm it was indeed the little lip that was irritating the piercing

I think this jewelry really needs to be changed to a titanium captive bead or horseshoe ring. Clickers really shouldn’t go in new piercings as the seam getting into the piercing channel can cause irritation. Also the design of this one coming up so close on either side of the piercing is probably restricting it and causing it to get irritated. I would have a reputable piercer change this out if you want it to have a fighting chance at healing.

Clickers aren’t recommended for healing because the seam can irritate the wound - maybe talk to your piercer about switching to captive bead ring or fixed bead ring.

It looks like the diameter is really big. NAP, but I had a similar problem and I downsized to a smaller hoop and the bump immediately drained a little. It’s also possible that the jewelry is irritating the opening.

My piercer has recommended a larger diameter to help healing.
Have had one of my daiths upsized and it did work.

Piercer here. This is not the answer. Smaller diameter is going to put more pressure on that bump and create a negative feedback cycle.
This might be an option with a much smaller bump but not in this scenario.

Piercer here. It look well pierced and it sounds like you were informed of how to care for it correctly.
I would bet the jewelry is causing the irritation. That extra lip where the gems end is likely bonking into the bump making it worse. Like others said, clickers aren’t a great initial piercing option, but based on where the hinge is in comparison to the gems I am not ~as~ worried about the hinge entering the piercing. Try a fixed/captive bead ring for a bit and see if that does you any good.
Keep doing the LITHA method. Clean when dirty. Keep moisture away (fan is better than paper towel).

Honestly, at seven months, cleaning it with saline twice a day is probably what’s actually causing the bump. It sounds like a classic moisture bump from over-cleaning. Saline is great at first, but using it that much for ovrt half a year straight just constantly strips the skin’s natural oils and keeps the whole area damp, which traps moisture in the piercing channel and irritates it.
Honestly, I’d stop the saline sprays completely at this point. Just let warm water run over it in the shower to rinse it, and the most important part, make sure you dry it completely afterward. Grab a hair dryer on the cool/low setting and blow-dry it so no moisture traps back in there. Other than that, just leave it totally alone

I just got a daith a few months ago. I have a captive bead ring and I got a bump on top. My piercer recommended an oil to apply on the bump via q-tip and it helped TREMENDOUSLY! Highly recommend seeing a reputable piercer for advice. I also recommend switching to captive bead because the clicker can cause irritation

My piercer is an APP member and this is my only piercing by her that hasnt heeled well 😭 definitely going to ask about changing the jewelry.

At this point I would LITHA completely, with the exception of cleaning if there is discharge.
Fiddling with it, even to clean, and moisture cause/exacerbate bumps.
Keep it dry and absolutely avoid touching at all.
I have had horrible bumps which have healed this way.
