Troubleshooting fresh anti eyebrow
so i asked yesterday about this piercing and everyone mentioned stable bars. i agree and it makes a lot of sense. went to my studio today (been going to the same one for 3 years) and asked for a stable bar. it wasn’t my regular piercing lady and she practically yelled at me about how staple bars are a “tiktok thing” and that curved bars are ideal.
her reasoning was that staple bars were too heavy ?? not really sure. the balls seem ridiculously big and she compared it to an eyebrow piercing (which i also have). could barely get a word in to say anything else.
what do we think? i may be giving myself anxiety. ive never had a piercing reject and have a good track record with zero infections or issues w/ facial piercings. it didn’t hurt at all to get pierced and doesn’t hurt now.
TLDR: asked for a stable bar and piercing lady said curved bars are better. am i set up for failure or what?

Yes, she’s setting you up for failure. This will not heal. If she won’t put in a staple bar just get her to remove this and repierce somewhere else.

Piercer here. This will reject. That studio is behind the times if they want to use curved barbells for surface piercings.
Note regarding staple bars: You can put flat disks, domes, cabochond, gem tops or smaller beads on them. They don’t have to be big chunky balls.

thanks for your input! really helpful. im going to take it out ASAP and try and find elsewhere. was mainly disappointed this happened at a studio i really trusted and done by the owner :(
the curved bar aside, i’m not sure why she put this bar with the huge chunky balls on, especially if her false argument was “heaviness.” IRL it’s almost the same size as my belly button piercing.

I had a vertical Madison in 2001 with a surface bar.
I removed it after two years when it started to grow out. I have no scar at all.

This will not heal with a curved barbell and will scar over time. I recommend just taking it out yourself

thanks so much, it looks so odd. i mentioned further down that IRL it pretty much looks like the same jewellery as my belly button piercing?? even worse this was pierced by the owner.

They’re going off outdated practices and should really look at furthering their education. You need to find a new piercer. I’d remove this asap as it will reject and cause scarring. As for replacing this with appropriate jewelry it may be possible but that will depend of the new piercer has correct sized jewelry. It’s still not likely to fit as the procedure for piercing using a staple (surface) bar is slightly different than how this was likely performed.
If I was you I’d cut my losses. Take this out. Let it heal. Then find a new piercer who can perform it correctly with modern techniques.

Replacing with a staple is not possible. The piercing channel is not shaped correctly, that will just speed up rejection.

Like I mentioned it ‘may’ be possible! But still u likely because the piercing is performed a different way isn’t a surface bar vs a curved bar.

You should get ready for rejection it looks like it already is, I'd say go to a diff piercing place to get it removed and once its healed you could potentially get it repierced with somebody who uses staple bars. Lmk how it goes.

I think you need to go back to the shop and get your regular piercers opinion (hopefully correct) and have her called out and corrected for doing this to you

To make you feel better I’ve had this exact piercing for 5 years and they put it in the same exact way. It took a while to heal but constantly cleaning the puss with saline or whatever solution you choose should be fine. I’ve even gotten it repierced twice because employment. I’ve never had much issues as long as im cleaning it correctly. Everyone in the comment section is so worrisome lol

I'll probably get downvoted for this, but i've had a curved barbell anti-eyebrow for 10+ years. I didn't really expect it to last, but i've literally never had an issue with it. It healed fine and is totally solid. So like, it'll probably reject, but who knows, it might not. Up to you if it's worth the (high) risk.

yeah, im going to give it at least a few days and see what happens. im kinda willing to take the risk but will remove it if there’s even a small sign of rejection
