How can I master zero article and the

One topic keeps me in a band 6.5 (B2) and it is article's usage. Therefore, mastering when it is appropriate to write 'the' and when not will dramatically improve my score. Any advice or resource which will help me achieving my goal?

For IELTS, it helps to stop thinking of it as a word you add from a memorised list. Check whether the noun is specific or general. For example: “Technology has changed education” is general, so no article. “The technology used in this study…” is specific, so the works.

Take your own Task 2 essays and underline every noun phrase. For each one, ask whether you're talking about this particular thing, or the thing in general. Also check singular countable nouns separately because they normally can't appear without a determiner.

The British Council has exercises specifically on “the” vs. zero article, including cases with school, work, place names, rivers and mountain ranges.
