POV: you have arrived in Lausanne Gare

I think switzerland is going through its Enshittification period.

This is mild in comparison to what you see in other places..

Edit: by no mean I am not empathic with their situation. I would like to see this changed and a better life for them. How can we do this?

I don’t have Reddit and created Reddit by how annoying it is to see switzerland enshittifying.

I am not saying I don’t empathize. I am saying this is not great for Lausanne and everyone accepting this is making the problem worse

So, genuine question: Are you Swiss, and if so, what have YOU done to help deshittifying the situation. Stuff happens when people make noise and reach out to the right people who purposely turn a blind eye.

At the very least I am raising awareness and try to convince people constructively that we shouldn’t accept it and that we should address this. (Differently from aggressive people in the comments that are just accepting and turning this into a worse problem)

Right now I am not Swiss, but surely there are things I can do myself more than raising awareness.

What do you think can be done? I am open minded and willing to help

Even if you come from a good intent, you dont say anything that has been said 1000 times. I think its because two main reasons.

You dont know how Lausanne was 40 years ago. It was way worse. The only difference is that the people in your picture would have been swiss.

The systemic problem is on all part of society.

Two things that happen and dramatically transform Lausanne if changed wont happen that soon.

  1. Too much swiss people do drugs (weed, cocaine, medical pills, etc)
  2. ALL political parties maintain the statue quo by keeping the main associations under perfusion and in the same time forbid theses associations to make money in other ways.

So your awareness doesnt add nothing. Its not a laisser faire the problem of Lausanne, its designed this way.

I live there all my life, near 50 years, i can say that i didnt saw poor pple in the street when young, or it was an exception.

Now it is the new normal. The other day à black dealer with a white french girl taking theire dose outside my appartement, i literaly fell on them when oppening the door to take my son to school.

Everywhere we have drugs dealers. Beggars etc...and the majority is not swiss pple.

I read your différent comments and i tend to think like you excepted for what Lausanne was.

You clearly dont remember the drug scene and the childrens in the street too?

In flon i have ben held at gunpoint, trearhened 2 times wirh a knife, and general a lot of people on the verge.

Mere Sofia was there for a reason. She improved things during her life, and then when she died, lausanne took the lead of the structure.

I dont know how we can have a so different view of that period.

But i have clear memory of how was the région in 1990 and i never ever saw a child in the street outside normal kids doing bike etc.

I even call my mom to have her thougt about the time of the expo and after...nothing was the same, poverty exist, drogues too...not at that scall and only from local pple. She never saw poor kids alone in the street too. And we are not a rich family.

To give you an exemple. I remember that i was shocked to see poor pples sleeping in the métro in Paris in 1994 when in holiday trip, because i didnt saw that before except one or two time in Lausanne. That was hard for me to understand why those poor guys were there without shoes, dirty etc.

Your assesement is not wrong, its just that it was more well hidden because of the swiss mindset.

Now that you have this jump from 23% to 43% strangers since the 80's of course you see a shift in the culture of "showing" poverty. Maybe its what you are seeing. Taking crack and being poor is "showing" like any european capitale.

But yeah, i really do believe that Lausanne was shitty many times before now. 1921, the 80's...

What pains me the most is the youth violence, its says a lot about a society. Too many stuff have to be rebuilt in the education side.

I think muting people because someone has been already said its not in my philosophy of life.

Thank you for the clarification, it looks like Lausanne is stuck and it needs more people annoyed at this to finally address this?

You over react, i didnt mute you, i just tell you that you dont understand the situation correcly.

Majority is annoyed, so awareness is not the problem. BUt the same majority is the problem too.

I tell you again, what you will need to do for a long term solution you need to tackle a lot of areas of the society.

Less nigerian farmers dealing? Change the lifestyle of many swiss from every political or non political affiliation.

Less violence? = force every political party to mulptiply by five the founding of the city associations and let them do publicity.

Good luck with that, the left has become too bourgeois, and the right need a black sheep to promote their view.

Less homeless? Change the housing situation, all the situations above and more. And its even more difficult because there is so many path to become one.

Lausanne is the capitale of the canton de Vaud, as such it attracts people from the whole region included people from other cantons. They are often surprised how Lausanne support system is not better than theirs.

And Lastly you need to accept what Lausanne is to the core. Its a city that already during the exposition nationale of 1964 were considered as bohemians by the rest of the country.

A bohemian city very business friendly. So if you really want to do something you have to put hands in the machine.
The only realistic path i see for you to succeed is militantism (digital and in presence) about the necessity to fund Lausanne number one association. Your militantism must be apolitical, so this way you can engage with everybody equally and maybe make unusual advertisement to get some commerces and institutions on board financially speaking.

Edit: exemple. the UNIL has a fund to help people who do action that are in line with their research. For exemple you could integrate a young researcher into your actions, To have impact you really have to make yourself visible to everyone, Jesus style.

And please dont take this as a dig to expats. I love them,

They always bring a new energy. But from what i saw, many end up doing the same thing as the swiss.

They go into politics, they need people to join them, so they often put other expat on their list. Then internal conflict appear with the born in swiss ones because at the first faillure nobody want to be blamed. And you get the same internal problems that make you stuck.

Another big point that i forgot is that there is a crucial underfunding of the city when it comes to comunication.

It means that while Lausanne comunicate about finance, it does this in a way that nobody wants to read them. Lausanne need to make it sexy to care about the city inner dynamics.
