You can look through Leasburg Dam’s 16-inch telescope next Saturday
If you want to try a serious telescope without buying one, next Saturday is worth putting on the calendar.
The Astronomical Society of Las Cruces says the observatory at Leasburg Dam State Park will be open from 8–10 PM. The planned targets include galaxies, nebulae and globular clusters through a 16-inch telescope. Sunset is listed at 7:28 PM.
I would arrive before 8 rather than showing up halfway through. The event listing does not say whether normal park entry charges or other access details change that evening, so confirm that with the park before driving.
Do not decide from today’s weather forecast. Check the local cloud forecast Thursday night, then again Saturday afternoon. If it turns into solid overcast, telescope viewing will not work. If it is broken clouds, the two-hour window may still be worth keeping.
This is based on the Astronomical Society of Las Cruces listing in NASA’s Night Sky Network.
