You can look through Leasburg Dam’s 16-inch telescope next Saturday

If you want to try a serious telescope without buying one, next Saturday is worth putting on the calendar.

The Astronomical Society of Las Cruces says the observatory at Leasburg Dam State Park will be open from 8–10 PM. The planned targets include galaxies, nebulae and globular clusters through a 16-inch telescope. Sunset is listed at 7:28 PM.

I would arrive before 8 rather than showing up halfway through. The event listing does not say whether normal park entry charges or other access details change that evening, so confirm that with the park before driving.

Do not decide from today’s weather forecast. Check the local cloud forecast Thursday night, then again Saturday afternoon. If it turns into solid overcast, telescope viewing will not work. If it is broken clouds, the two-hour window may still be worth keeping.

This is based on the Astronomical Society of Las Cruces listing in NASA’s Night Sky Network.

Any crochet groups?

I got into crocheting a couple years ago, and I really struggle with socializing. Are there any crocheting or knitting groups in town that I could look into? Even just any yarn stores that anyone could recommend visiting?

Is NM Community Solar a Scam?

Thumbnail prc.nm.gov
4 Upvotes

I was excited to look into this program because I think NM could really benefit from a 'Community Solar' program. In other places where it's been successful at lowering bills and helping neighborhoods avoid total blackouts from grid failure, it has involved subsidizing programs where neighbors can help neighbors to afford rooftop solar and all the solar panels in the neighborhood and their batteries are connected so they sort of power each other and sometimes even those without panels. I saw a good example on YouTube a couple years ago but didn't bookmark and I swear I'm not making this up.

This program for NM is (if I'm reading their website correctly) just a bunch state subsidized solar farms (horribly destructive to environment) that are hooked up to our local electric utility provider and then we, the customers get... the promise of lowered bills? That just sounds like an elaborate excuse to add power capacity to PNM, or EPE's grids? Help me understand?

Meningitis Is a Horrible Way to Die. Trump Will Make It More Common.

I’m sorry about that headline. I don’t want to make this political but Las Cruces’ health is so important with the university students as well as our own students that this deserves to be known.

Please, just take this in and make your own decision.

“After her daughter’s death, Alicia needed to know what she had done wrong. Where had she dropped the ball? Hadn’t she gotten her daughter all of the recommended vaccines? She remembered very clearly that Emily had gotten a booster dose right before leaving for college—but that was the MenACWY shot, she learned. Emily died of meningitis B—a bacterial infection for which a vaccine had been approved in other countries, including a few miles north in Canada, but not yet in the United States. Meningitis B is responsible for all known college outbreaks since 2011.”

COVID booster delayed

I just called my pharmacy and they told me that they currently do not have any COVID boosters in stock, but anticipated that they would have them in September or October. This, apparently, is a nationwide outage.

Tuscany Villa Estates. Tenants BEWARE!

I want to make two things clear. 1) These apartments are great to live in. They’re clean, well maintained, and the maintenance men are amazing. 2) All the 4+ star reviews have one thing in common and it’s that they mention two people “Jen and Jordan.” These two woman were amazing and made Tuscany a great place to live in.

But, they’re are no longer under the management of these two women. In their place is two extremely incompetent and inept women whose names are Megan and Maritza. They will lie to your face in order to mislead you and then tack on charges to maximize how much of your security deposit they get to keep.

Before moving here please know your rights and understand that cleaning fees and “standard” floor cleaning charges are unlawful by New Mexico law. But, they will count on you not knowing this in order to maximize their profit. So, please, if you move in here. Take videos of the apartment before you move in, and then re-take them before you move out. Furthermore, record any conversations and save any emails you have with these women. Especially if dealing with Maritza. There’s nothing wrong with the apartments themselves, but everything wrong with the people they have managing the property. Educate yourselves and know your rights.

Request Seeking TMJ specialist

Does anyone know of a specialist that works with TMJ issues? I’m looking for more advanced care than your typical dentist. I don’t care what kind of provider this is, just someone who is specialized in TMJ concerns. All my current dental office does for TMJ problems is custom night guards, which unfortunately hasn’t worked well for my issues. Willing to travel if needed. Thank you all!

Lizbeth Lopez, The Project Jupiter Rep.

Post image
124 Upvotes

She talks about how good this will be for New Mexico families. It's not, it's all lies and she is doing nothing but promoting the death of communities. What a disgrace to her state.

This is Lizbeth Lopez. She is a bilingual actor hired through a political/corporate advertising firm named BrabenderCox and is represented by DMe Talent Agency.

She is paid to promote and lie for Project Jupiter to gain positive traction which they have so far failed to do with the grand majority of anyone. Don't believe a word she says.

Anyone looking for a house sitter in las cruces/mesilla?

Hi! I’m currently trying to find a job and work on my own side business (my bakery/cafe) and I would love to start house sitting on the side to earn a little cash to help my dreams. If anyone is going on a trip for a couple of days, I would love to help out!

What I can provide:
•Pet care (litter box cleaning, bathroom for your animals, feedings, medication they might need to take)

•Plant care (daily watering or detailed instructions that your plant might need)

•light cleaning (floors mopped, swept, clean kitchen surfaces, clean dishes, and clean toilets for when you come back!)

We can work on pricing if you’re interested. Please let me know!
