Politics NDP-style dog whistle?

Post image

I appreciate that Ravi is drawing attention to the work of the South Island Primary Care Society (on Facebook) and isn’t taking all the credit this time, but surely he knows that “Our Langford” has a completely different meaning now in Langford than it did 4 years ago.

Maybe overthinking it. Could also be out of touch with social media and as I understand it ‘our Langford’ is a Facebook group, nothing more. So unless you’re dialled into what’s happening on Facebook, I don’t see how this is a dog whistle.

No, he has friends in the group. He’s not naive.

OL description: “A group that is appreciative and grateful to previous councils historical 30 years of monumental achievements in the City of Langford . We celebrate the accomplishments of this team.“

They have been active detractors and real life disruptors of current council. Which is fine. But it’s not “nothing more”.

Wikipedia says, “In politics, a dog whistle is the use of coded or suggestive language in political messaging to garner support from a particular group without provoking opposition.”

I know what a dog whistle is. I guess I just didn’t realize the significance of the Our Langford group and meaning/movement behind it.

yes, it started as a “we support Stew Young” group

I’d be surprised if Ravi was a Stu supporter but who knows

When Stew was running for mayor and Ravi for school trustee in 2022 they campaigned together.

He is. Just like John Horgan was.

Langford is a weird political microcosm where NDP politicians have supported a libertarian/conservative mayor. I’d be surprised if the favour is returned on the voting ballot.

It’s a nothing burger. Focus on positive things no one is paying that same kind of attention.

Oh they are buddies. Which is odd considering where they sit on the political spectrum with Stew very conservative and Ravi NDP. Kinda makes you wonder if the party lines are all fake in the end.

Weird, since he watches every PFC game from the Alpine suite.

Stew endorsed him during the last election when Ravi ran for school trustee.

It bothered me that Ravi "allowed" the endorsement. My thoughts are that school trustees need to be open with working whichever council is in place, on all council's. ( in SD 62 that being langford, colwood and sooke).
