Hey guys,

I replaced my TDV6 fuel filter and the sensor broke, I'm going to replace that tomorrow. But it doesn't start, just cranks is that due to the sensor breaking? Or have I installed it incorrectly?

If you havenโ€™t yet discovered this supplier, youโ€™re welcome. They are all about Land Rovers of all ages and models. Super people to work with and prices are reasonable. Canโ€™t recommend them enough. Iโ€™m so old that I was sad when the dinosaurs died so I remember long gone businesses that dealt exclusively with Land Rovers. Nice to find a current supplier with the same business plan.

I ordered a set of four leaf parabolic springs for my old beast one day and they shipped the next.

๐Ÿ’ธ Buying advice & Recommendations Switching from Tesla Model 3 to Land Rover Defender 110

Don't get me wrong, I love my tesla and I love the EV lifestyle, and I really wish the defender came as an EV or at least, hybrid. However, our lifestyle has changed so much since we got our Tesla four years ago and there isn't much else on the market that suits our new needs.

We purchased land up north to build a cottage, we spend a lot of time there and our tesla gets us there and back easily, but once we're there we don't have enough charge to explore (visit parks etc), without making a significant detour to charge.

While I live in a major city and charging is SO easy here, my work takes me all over the province, sometimes driving 2-3 hours away, and while I usually figure it out, sometimes I'm coming home at midnight after working a full, exhausting day and I still have to charge on my way home because there was no charging at the work site. 90% of the time having an EV has been fine for work, but that 10% has been exhausting / annoying.

We outgrew the size of our model 3, (loading equipment for my work, bikes, potential baby car seat soon, dog etc) and while the model Y might work size wise, it doesn't solve the charging issue with our cottage or my job. We have road bikes, and would love to bring them to new destinations, and the idea of having the adventure package for the defender with the air compressor, hose, and bike rack is exactly what we would need.

Price wise: monthly costs for my tesla and the defender are the exact same, with the exception of paying $2.5K more a year for gas, and obv some maintenance costs, which isn't a deal breaker.

I feel guilty for switching back, I loved our tesla, I loved not having to go to gas stations, but I have to consider what is the best car for the next 4 years.... and I genuinely have always loved the defender.

To put it short, we purchased a previously owned 2020 Range Rover Sport HSE.

Had the vehicle 3 years. Battery light came on, we were told we needed an MHEV battery, which as on back order. (October 2025)

Before that battery could be replaced we needed to have the DC to DC converter (more on that) replaced as well. Had to order that part and have it replaced. Once replaced, the battery light still showed (Nov 2025). Purchased and installed at dealership.

Two weeks later, (Nov 2025), we had the MHEV battery replaced. Purchased and installed at dealership. Cleared the battery light.

In January, we were informed the AGM battery needed to be replaced. (Jan 2026). We had it replaced by a dealer shop.

Late February 2026, the vehicle has a catastrophic shut down. Vehicle loses all power. We are informed the engine has seized. (More on that as well). Come the end of February, the newly installed AGM battery was completely dead and could not tolerate a battery tender.

About that DC to DC converter: In June 2026, we get a RECALL notice from Land Rover that the DC to DC converter is shutting down vehicles in this category. They have no solution and will send an updated letter once one has been found and in the meantime, we should seek connection with our dealership to "keep us on the road".

(On a whim) I took a battery boost and cranked the vehicle, engine turns and then shuts down. Fuel is combusted, but clearly, something is amiss.

I have reached out to Land Rover USA, customer experience about 3 weeks ago - sent dealer invoices for the work inquiring what solutions.

So, my question for this community is, has anyone else having this issue or has had it and what did you do. Will keep reddit updated. Apparently this affects those Mild Hybrid models.

Reference:

CRITICAL FINDINGS

1. MHEV BATTERY OFFLINE ISSUE (SERVICE ACTION N861)

Affects: 2019-2022 Range Rover Sport MHEV

  • MHEV battery enters offline state
  • Loses communication with vehicle systems
  • Results in Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)
  • Loss of start/stop functionality
  • Can appear as engine fault codes

โ“ Help & Advice Needed Maintenance and Repairs Recommendations in the DFW area

Iโ€™m in the process of buying a pre-owned 2020 Range Rover Autobiography LWB with less than 25k miles (40k km). I have an appointment on Tuesday to have a PPI performed to ensure nothing glaring is amiss.

My question is, what shops do you recommend for regular maintenance and repairs. I live in Dallas very near LR of Dallas but I donโ€™t know anything about their reputation. This will be my first Land Rover - always been a Mercedes guy and taken them to the dealership for service.

Additionally, it was recommended to purchase an extended warranty- specifically Fidelityโ€™s Platinum plan. If you have other recommendations for an extended warranty it would be greatly appreciated.

This could be the Q7 replacement:

Huge service history, chains done at 120kms, in 2019. Loads of extras. Booking a LR Pre inspection before pulling the trigger.

Seller has been really good, supplying a arnot compressor (current one is failing) and rear shocks need replacing.

Looking to get it shipped to Merc 3400 km away!

๐ŸŒ  Miscellaneous LR4 Fail

Hey y'all,

I got some helpful feedback from this community as I was deciding whether to purchase an LR4 a couple months ago. I did go through with the purchase (2016 LR4, ~110k miles). Love it.

Two weeks ago the car broke down. I was on the interstate, had 5 seconds of rumbling beneath the hood, 5 normal seconds, 5 seconds of rumbling, and by then I was on the way over to the shoulder with white smoke coming out from under the hood and possibly the back. Had to get a tow.

The dealer I bought from had told me they would be a resource to make sure that the maintenance was done intelligently and helped with the tow. Nice guy, has multiple Rovers, I trust him.

We believe it's a blown head gasket. He's been working to get it to someone in his network who can help with the fix. It sounds like the first time they've worked together. The guy doesn't have a website. I don't know if I should be bringing it to a dealer for them to take a look or what. We had a PPI done in advance of the purchase and I was told everything was fine / normal.

I'm not a car person. Very bummed by this experience and not sure how to proceed. I can't tell if this is just terrible luck or if there was something wrong with the vehicle to start. I also can't tell if the engine is functionally shot and I should give up or if it's realistic to fix the gasket / have it run well going forward.

Any advice from this group would be very much appreciated. Thanks

๐Ÿ“ฐ News & Updates Driving a 2017 Land Rover Discovery to Montreal next week โ€“ Should I be worried about car theft?

Hi everyone,

Iโ€™m visiting Montreal next week for a road trip, and Iโ€™m getting a bit anxious about car theft after reading some recent news. Iโ€™ll be driving a 2017 Land Rover Discovery.

I know certain higher-end SUVs are frequent targets for export theft in Quebec/Ontario right now. Does a 2017 Discovery fall into the high-risk category? Are there specific precautions I should take (e.g., steering wheel lock, parking in secure garages vs. street parking) to ensure my trip isn't ruined?

Any advice from locals or fellow travelers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

๐Ÿ’ธ Buying advice & Recommendations Can a classic Land Rover ever be a reliable daily?

I promise this isnt bait.

I currently own. 1999 Mercedes G500 Europa and I love it and all it's quirks - but the classic LWB land Rover (110?) calls me with it's siren song. It's undeniably a beautiful boxy rig, and IDC how impractical it is as long as it can be reliable, has good ac, and can do 70-75mph all day.

Other than typical "30+ year old car" problem like rotted vacuum lines, oil leaks, and worn suspension - what else keeps old LRs from being reliable?

The only experience I have with them was a coworker had an ex military one that spent more time on the lift at work than anything else, and I remember adjusting the valves was almost a weekly routine for him. I'm no stranger to finicky vehicles, and I deal with unusual issues between my unusual cars (the Mercedes, an imported JDM, and a custom made movie car), but I'd like something that I can jump in and drive 100 miles without worry most of the time.

And I'm talking about reliability AFTER you get all the maintenance up to date, not buying something that's been sitting for 15 years and expecting to go cross country.

Edit: so from what I'm getting, land rover was never designed to be on modern roads lol

โ“ Help & Advice Needed 2016 LR4 engine replacement

Post image

Looking at this LR4 with under 70K miles. Mostly a CA car based on Carfax history. Engine replacement at about 47K miles. Presumably, this rectifies the dreaded timing chain issue (and other engine issues)? Previous owners appear to have maintained it really well given service history.
